everyone knows its all about Reagan. He scared the crap out of everyone, including us AND it was the best time of our economy because he made it stable by cutting out wasteful government spending AND minimized government power, unlike obama who wants to spend craploads of government and taxpayer money and wants the government to have total control like in V for Vendetta. EAT IT you liberals! :D
Actually Reagan spent significantly more than any president before him, more than doubling Carter's highest budget by 1989. Additionally, he not only did not decrease government power, but increased it by creating a whole new department (Department of Education). More importantly, his economic plans were tried before, by Harding, Coolidge and Hoover. They got us into the Great Depression if you do not recall. Lastly, Reagan decided not to act for three years about a little thing called A.I.D.S. and did not use any of his bloated budget to increase spending for research that could have extended millions of lives and let A.I.D.S. get to the point of being an epidemic in the United States. So I think I can say that, no, it is not all about Reagan. Also, he appointed one of the dumbest Supreme Court justices in my opinion (Scalia).

I think my personal favorite would by FDR. Partially because of the whole World War II thing, but partially because he was the first president to realize that we do not have to live by the intent behind the Constitution because the framers had no idea what to expect. FDR was the first to really expand government to help people and change it in a significant way while staying inside the confines of the Constitution.
lol i tottaly forgot about FDR, love the fact that even though he was in a wheelchair chain smoked cigars and how he ran WW2

I loved the 4 years of (no text)!
He was truly a visionary.

EDIT: Oh fine, just to be on topic: Uhhh...Abe Lincoln.
There.
Abe Lincoln set the precident of a president ignoring the constitution. Everything Bush did, was based on Lincoln. Lincoln set budgets and spent money without the approval of Congress. He ordered the suspention of the right to trial and imprisioned thousands without trial. It can also be argued that the way he handled the politics caused the war.

I guess that means you are a Bush supporter eh?
While all of that is true, Lincoln had a cause to do it for, a split nation. What was Bush's cause? Terrorism? You can't fight an ideology. But you are absolutely right about Lincoln during the Civil War. Just, I don't like comparing him to George Bush. Bush wanted to "save" Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11. But whatever, he hopefully will never be anyone's favorite president.
Actually you could argue fairly easily that Lincoln should have let them go. Modern US policy would support the succession of an indentifiable region that wished to seperate - as long as it was another country and not them.
I guess you are right. But think about it morally. Splitting up with one half supporting enslaving others. It just seems wrong to let that happen. I mean, I know exactly what you are saying, but do you think that if right now some states gathered up and decided to reform the confederacy that the rest of America would support it. If Texas wanted to form its own country, I doubt the other 49 states would support it.

Yes, I do guess a health problem and an addiction to nicotine before they were known to cause cancer does tend to disqualify presidents from being considered the best, as opposed to being a hypocrite, a liar, and not helping the people he represents.

Maybe James K. Polk. He was a giant racist douche bag but he did practically double the size of the country in one war.

Actually, I think Nixon was a pretty damn good president before the whole Watergate thing. I try not to demonize him like so many other people do and I atleast urge people to learn about and consider his positive actions before deciding whether or not they think he was that bad.

Washington. He was elected unanimously, twice. You have to be good to be re-elected unanimously.

I do know about Nixon and what he did well and what he did badly. Its just my opinion but I don't think he was the best president ever.
