I'd say betrayal, especially for personal gain.

If a man kills someone else, at least he's been straightforward about it, but if a man has manipulated someone, using them as a tool instead of a person then casting them aside, then they are true villains.

Christianity is the greatest sin by far. do you know how many people has been killed by Christian twats? thousands! the crusades alone is responsible for atleast 10000 deaths caused by christians. and im really meaning at least, because then we have the "witches", the "heretics" and so on...
Yet how many lives have been saved by the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul, along with countless other charities? That cannot be measured but is far more important.

The greatest sin is rape. Killing someone can be right and all that is taken is a life, I can't exactly argue that theft is seeing as my country was populated by them originally and her greatest heroes are thieves, but to violate someone can rob them of dignity, self esteem and humanity.

I'ma go with pedophilia.

Usually I'd come up with some carefully thought out explanation, but this one is pure gut. I think rapists in general are scum, but I'm usually the first one to champion due process and rehabilitation. I think every man deserves his day in court, and that jail is an appropriate punishment for crimes, and a man who has served his time deserves a second chance.

On the other hand, I genuinely believe that pedophiles should be fed through a meat grinder. They are the only criminals who I could totally justify killing in cold blood and not lose a single second's sleep over it.
I'm sure I'll get shit for this but paedophilia is not a crime. It might be a sin in the same way eating meat on Friday is a sin, but noticing more than that. Now acting on those desires, I agree, those people you can put in a meat grinder. But there's quite a difference...

OT: I think, out of the original 7 big ones, I'd have to go with "Anger". The others just effect yourself, anger effects others. In more general words: unneeded, unprovoked, extreme aggression in any form.

How can you say rape is worse than murder? Cuz sex and violence are two of the unholy trinity of icky things that genteel puritans musn't talk about? And to combine them is simply abhorrent?
Psychologially the traumatic effects shouldn't be any worse than what you'd get from armed robbery, but society has conditioned everyone to think that rape is the worst possible thing that can happen.

the greatest evil is stupidity, as all evil stems from stupidity in the first place.
for example, I would say that thinking possesions can make you happy is stupidity, and some pretty abhorrent deeds have been done in the name of greed. plus theres the ever present example of religious fanatascism, one of the more popular brands of stupidity. realistically, any other sin you could think of (murder, theft, and probably even rape in extremely extenuating circumstances) is justifiable in certain contexts, but stupidity cannot be.

I would go with something that would seem small to those who don't think hard on it but is actually quite deep. The greatest sin ever would be Theft.

This probably covers alot of other issues already raised. Murdering being the theft of a live and of a loved one or some such person. Rape being the theft of dignity as well as other things. I bet most people can make the rest of the connections between theft and other crimes.

(and points for anyone who knows where I got that line of thinking)
(That is theft being worst thing line of thinking)
why.. I smell a book quote.... thats it, the kite runner.

Rape. I can forgive most crimes if they have a real reason but rape is just disgusting because it has no real reason. You are willing to destroy someone's life just for a few moments of pleasure that $$50 could get you at the local brothel.
To me that just displays not only a total lack of concern for anyone but yourself but also a display of weakness that you need to dominate someone like that to feel better about yourself.

Then again I am against all crimes without reason. Even shit like people that make computer viruses. They do it for what? No reason other than destroying other peoples property. These people should honestly be put to death.
This, but torture where it was rape (I veiw rape as a particularly savage, distasteful form of torture).

Both end when the victim dies, however in the case of murder that is far sooner than rape. Both are unforgivable, both affect the lives of not only the victims, but all their family and friends as well. In time, the death of a loved one can be accepted, perhaps not forgiven, but accepted. To see a loved one forever broken, living with being raped is not something I would wish on anyone, and it is haunts those close to the victim forever.

Societies influence has of course affected how we veiw rape. Western society demands that sex be a deeply intimate and hugely personal experience for both parties. To have that forced on you, to have someone violate you and tarnish you're only true form of pure expression is beyond damaging. It's nice to say that the psychologic affects shouldn't be any worse than that of someone in an armed robery, but it simply doesn't work like that, and our whole attitude toward sex demand that the two scenarios never be comparable.

Isn't wrath one of them? I'd imagine that also affects others.
*edit* They are the same sin, so nevermind.

Stabbing or shooting one in the back, I think, there is no hell painful enough for those people, I really wish all of them would just die.
Also, running away while you're fighting your opponent, same punishment as above.

Fully knowing the negative consequences to something horrendous you're about to do, knowing it is wrong, and doing it anyway.

There, I think that dodges the whole "Morality is all perspective MURRHH MURRHH MWHHHAH"

Take your glorified-monism elsewhere.

I'd have to say murder, although child abuse comes a close second.

Stealing is the birth of all sins. Let me explain.

If you kill someone, you steal their right to live.
If you lie to someone, you steal their right to the truth.
If you psychologically torture someone in some way, you are stealing their right to life and the pursuit of happiness.

Simple logic, really.

See above.

The greatest sin is to grieve your own conscience, your own set of morality.
Morality may be arbitrary but in your own mind you create notions of justice, and to know what is right from wrong in your own opinion -- and to still commit wrongdoing is a crime against yourself and others.

It is the root of many wrongs. You violate your own conscience, create hypocrisy, call even your own morals lies. If you can do that, you are capable of every other sin man knows, stealing, murder, adultery, etc.

Even Judeo-Christendom cites in a passage that we will be judged by what we know, and what we did in light of what we know. Our own hearts and minds will be our judges, how can anyone stand free of guilt, knowing within ourselves all we have done?

Can we even be true to ourselves?
