I was suprised how realistic STALKER was so yes, you're right about that.Crimson King said:I think that a truly realistic shooter would be really long, really complicated, and boring for the most part.
Lack of 100% realism is a point in a game's favour. A truly 100% realistic shooter would be an interesting and audacious game, but it would be doomed to be long, slow, really complex, and likely full of more bugs than a bug convention. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are an example. They do a good job balancing realism and not-realism and that's all you can or should ask of them.
I would play a game like that which you've described, though.
This was also what made me give up Enemy Territory forever. I shot an enemy medic in the back of the head nine times with my Thomson .45 from about five metres, stepped out of sight, reloaded, popped back out and finished him off, picked up all the medkits he dropped, thought about it for a moment and just went "oh, **** it!"Assassin Xaero said:That is what pisses me off in games now days, and the reason why I hated the multiplayer side of Halo. Shoot a gun with a rocket, empty a clip in to him, do whatever, then he hides behind a rock and is back to full health. Even normal CoD4 was too much. I would never play any non-hardcore matches in either CoD4 or CoD5. I don't want it to the extent of what the OP was saying, but I don't want to have to fire off 2,000 rounds from a minigun, fire a cruise missile, and call an ion cannon strike just to kill the guy in front of me.Onyx Oblivion said:I miss the days of emptying entire clips into opponents, and they were still only half dead...
Same here. And you don't even have to be an expert editor to make simple village assaults.Straying Bullet said:Anytime. That game is hardcore to the bone. The editor brought me alot of joy too. Operation Arrowhead is worth picking up. There are some features that make is an extraordinary addon. The Town Construction Module is great fun as it allows you to add as many towns as you like to any map (Takistani towns anyway). This makes for some serious power in the editor - the ability to change the maps at will.MrShowerHead said:Same here. Only bad thing about ARMA II is that they made that Operation Arrowhead. I don't have it at the moment and all my favorite servers are empty, because everyone plays Arrowhead ;(
I guess I have to pick it up sooner or later.tsb247 said:Operation Arrowhead is worth picking up. There are some features that make is an extraordinary addon. They have also improved the AI, civilian behavior, and added numerous abilities, weapon system, and tweaks.
My only gripes are that the campaign is really short, and there isn't enough infantry combat for my liking.
Because they make you think what to do next. Not just rush while shooting blindly around.Mr. Spazza said:
Seriously, what's with the obsession over realistic games?
It's about 9 missions (two are cutscenes), and one is a bit of a secret as you have to fail an objective in a mission in order for it to show up. Most of them allow you to command a squad, and one of them is a 'high command' mission where you lead a LARGE assault on an enemy position.MrShowerHead said:I guess I have to pick it up sooner or later.tsb247 said:Operation Arrowhead is worth picking up. About the campaign. How short is it actually? And do you command your own team in all missions?
