For, me its completely different every person. The only solid themes I seem to be able to lock on to is a mixture of personality, interests (usually a little geekery goes a long way with me) but most importantly I need to respect them as my equal (being a egotistical leo doesn't help me on this aspect much at all). If none of those fits then I usually don't look at them that way and just become mates instead.

When it comes to men thought I must say I do like them a bit older than me, possibly with grizzlyness (campness is a bit off a turn off, which is strange considering my own personality). Very sexy to me for some reason. Add that to my general preferences and wow that would be ace!

The girl I'm seeing at the mo, well its tentative and quite early on, so who knows. That she makes me laugh and I can stand to be in the same room as her for a long time (I'm a mature student at uni, so every 3rd kid I meet I could happily kill) I take as good signs though.

I'm not sure how you're differentiating between smart and clever. Maybe I need to get a new dictionary

But I'll try to answer your question.

From my experience, intelligence and responsibility go hand in hand. If your current lover is smart, and your relationship happens to develop well enough for you to marry them, their intelligence/responsibility will come in handy. Also, it would be nice to have a discussion like this with them.

There's a good and bad side to being me. The good side is I always have a bunch of girls somewhat interested in me (as long as I'm at a place with a decent-sized population). The bad-side is that most all of them are bat-shit insane. I like weird girls and dreamers (more than looks or anything else), but so far I've been friends/hooked up with:

1 girl who turned out to be a crazy cat-lady
2 or 3 girl stalkers
1 dominatrix ( Ah, fond memories <3)
1 girl who was halfway a campus slut
1 or 2 girls who would have probably done anything I told them to
3 ridiculously shy and idealistic Asians (i.e. one of them plastered my room door in my dorm with hearts on Valentine's day, and expected me to be the perfect b/f, etc.)
1 girl who tried so hard to pick me up (seriously, she ran out of a night club after me and glomped me)

several waitresses who randomly butted into my conversations

As for who I'd like: someone who hasn't abandoned their dreams. Someone who's weird. Someone who's willing to try something new beyond "a new restaurant/shop/etc." That's about all.

I have the same life, just most of them were normal, one's a bisexual and an other is a perfectionist. So far, the perfectionist has the best chance of being my girlfriend.

You should always respect the parents wishes instead of some girl you've never met. I'd say if she plays sports for a university, and her mother is still controlling her life, then move on. Find someone closer to you, something more realistic and tangible.
