Well it was to be expected. What with the price cut and expanding into more and more "less fortunate" countries world wide. Its still the best system for the money.
Unless you're European.

Indigo, I was just COMPLIMENTING your system, don't insult mine to be spiteful. The 360 and the PS3 are getting almost the EXACT same lineup of games with a few flavor exsclusives on either side, and PS3 is getting the Fallout 3 DLC.

BOTH are getting Prototype (only PS3 gets Infamous which is a good exsclusive), both get Ghostbusters, both get Brutal Legend, both get Red Faction: Guerilla, both get Dragon Age: Origins (though only we've gotten Mass Effect so far), etc, etc...

Most of the big titles are coming out for both systems. This year has been a good year for PS3 exsclusives. Previous years have been good for the 360. I am not the slightest bit interested in Alan Wake and so do not follow your logic.

As I was saying... We didn't start the flame war, it's been always burnin' since the worlds been turning~

Please not due to the high amount of 360 smacktardery in this topic this response will be heavily aimed at the 360 morons, but don;t worry the PS3 muppets will get some bile aimed at them as well.

Some info for the 360 fanboys lording it up over the fact that the PS2 outsold the PS3.

1). Let's not forget that the last XBox was so shite that MS withdrew it from sale ahead of schedule so that they could replace it with a poorly designed and, by any other criteria, heavily flawed console.

2). The PS3 isn't even half way through it's life cycle the 360 is closer to it's death than it is to it's birth now.

3). You're acting superior whilst your own console only managed to finish fourth in the same ranking. Well done your console is only a bit better than the PS3 but not quite as good as the three that finished in front of it.

A side note I own a PS3 that has BC. Wanna know how many times I've used it. NEVER. I have 30 Ps2 games and I have NEVER used my PS3s BC. Get over it the new ones don't have it because no one apart from the elite retards actually think they need it. Besides you can download a PS2 emulator and run it on a piss pot Pentium 3 and use that to run your old PS2 games... if you're that god damn desperate to play them.

This is total arse. 360 owners talking shit about why their system is the best. Using the same old bullshit arguments to justify the fact that they bought what amounts to a great big pile of fail. MS sitting by rubbing it's hands while the morons continue to buy a console THAT WILL FAIL on them. Live, cost, exclusives, graphics, DLC all the usual shite that gets brought out to justify why you bought your console and worse still to reassure your own self that you purchased a console that couldn't beat a GOD DAMN WII in sales.

As for the PS3 owners who cares. Yes the PS3 may be able to produce better graphics but so bloody what? Whilst developers are getting pockets full of cash from the overlord Microsoft all the PS3 will get is shitty half arsed conversions of 360 games while the 360 fanboys bang on about how great their console is because they get the opportunity to have their wallets double fleeced by shitty exclusive DLC for said games and the oh so wonderful Live service. The only games that show the PS3's power are exclusives and to use those as an argument to prove the consoles graphics power is like comparing the 0 - 60 times of a Ferrari to thin air.

Sony made an arse of it, face it and deal with it. You can at least feel safe in the knowledge that unlike MS, where 'originality' is a sweary word and will result in you actually being physically escorted out to the back of their buildings before being shot by security, at least they tried to incorporate some new tech in to their console. It failed in the short term and in ten years time we will know if it failed in the long term but by then the 360 fanboys will have the XBox 'look at how big my cock is' and they'll be banging on about how their £70 quid a day Live fee and the fact they can play their console for almost three whole hours before they have to phone MS's wonder customer service line to get it repaired.

To sum up PS2 outsells PS3; big fucking deal.
A-fucking-men. On a side note to get me potshot in at 360 owners, listen to yourselves douchebags, the lot of you have officially lost the right to ***** about any bit of fanboyism or waahhh thats not the way you should reply to a topic. its open for discussion not for bickering. It's like listening to a threatened child trying to compensate for insecurities by making something else look bad. Dude get over it. laughing man hit it all right on the head. If yoru openminded enough to read something more then 4 sentences then i suggest you do and say something worth saying. This console war shit has gotta go. GET THE FUCK OVER IT ALREADY. I swear these forums bring out the douchebag in all of us sometimes, please tell me your not this easily amused in real life as you are making this such a huge deal on the forums.

O and btw no im not a ps3 fanboy, however ANY system losing ground to a console that has sold nearly 140 million units over its existance is nothing to be ashamed of, wiether it be it's own or last gen.

Arguably the PS2 was the best system in the last few console generations. It had many good and great RPGs, FPS, TPS, Action/Adventure, etc. To me the PS2 was the best system I ever had and I still play it more than any other systems. I'd say it's pretty hard to live up to something like the PS2. I mean look at the XBOX, it wasn't really successful compared to the PS2, other than Halo or Ninja Gaiden or DOA ultimate I can't think of many good games. And the Gamecube was absolutely a failure for Nintendo's standards, so it is easy to see why Nintendo and XBOX have little trouble moving away from their last gen systems, while the PS2 still sells because it's a great console. Think about it, it isn't to hard to see why PS2 is selling so well into the next generation of gaming. It's that damn good!

Only one of them has God of War III. Only one of them has MAG. Only one of them has Heavy Rain. Only one has Gran Turismo 5. You can't ignore the inherent fascinating appeal of most of these games - even if we look at them in the context of all titles, there is a fair amount of toe-to-toe, to the point where Ps3 exclusives regularly outrank multiplatform titles on lists of anticipated games.
Ah Indigo how I missed your blatant fanboyism of Sony. Side Note. Not a single one of those games interest me. Mind you unless MS announce something huge at E3 I aint interested in Microsoft exclusives this year either. Unless the PS3 drops by $100 dollars and also comes with an add on that teleports BATMAN! into the room, I still wont get one. (the batman thing is a bit of an exaggeration but Sony would have to release a game TOTALLY unlike any other to get me to buy one)

BTW, why do you guys compare the Hardware that was sold?
All I hear is your prediction of the future market and how good you know the whole industry so why would you compare the number of the sold units? Cannot be done, not even amateur analysts do something like that since it's only a distraction for the consumer but not the revenue of the market itself.
Of course the cheaper product sells more units, that's not good marketing or good PR that's just common sense. And not only with video game consoles, look at the car industry:
What do you think sold better? The Honda Accord or the Enzo Ferrari?

But unlike the car industry you can actually compare the results in the video games market.

The PS3 [http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-80GB/dp/B001COU9I6/ref=sr_1_3/192-5548131-3687357?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1242788658&sr=1-3] price range is between 600 bucks to the current 400 bucks for the 80 GB model average price tag from release date to today of about 500.-

The 360 [http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Pro-60GB-Console/dp/B001BZ3PY6/ref=sr_1_9/175-4217566-6187008?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1242788533&sr=1-9] is cheaper from the high end Elite for 400.- to the arcade for 200.- average of 300 bucks.

The Wii [http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Nintendo/dp/B0009VXBAQ/ref=sr_1_1/192-9286983-5811833?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1242789010&sr=1-1] of course is the most affordable one for his 250.-

When you compare that to the current sales over at nextgenwars [http://nexgenwars.com/] you'll see that the whole outcome changes a lot.

Wile the 360 sold about 30,000,000 units the
Wii sold even more than 50,000,000 units and the
PS3 comes in last with 23,000,000 units sold.

You guys see where I'm going here right?

The Wii is on the top spot with about 12,500,000,000 bucks spent for the console while the PS3 is close with 11,500,000,000.- spent, Microsoft is way behind with just 9,000,000,000.- made with the 360.

The whole "The 360 sold more units" argument is actually not in favour of Microsoft since, when you compare the market you cannot compare the sold units, you have to calculate the money they made with it!

Sure you can call me a fanboy and make up all kind of excuses for the end result but that does not change this numbers! I also might add that I personally prefer the Dreamcast over any next-gen console.

Dingo, have you completely forgotten that E3 exists for the purpose of ANNOUNCING new games? There will be 360 announcements, there will be PS3 announcements, everybody will go home happy. Except for the Nintendo fans. I honestly don't expect much from them, given last year's massive failure in the announcement department.

I admit, this year IS looking VERY nice for the PS3. However, don't dismiss the 360 out of hand.

Oh, god. I don't even want to attempt to reason with the rest of the people here. So much bile...

Ah, and to be on topic as the OP requests: the only reason the PS3 could be considered superior to the PS2 is with the quality of the online service. Graphical upgrades do not impress me much, and neither does Blu-Ray, so I'll be sticking with the trusty 2 until the price drops a little more. I know that it's already dropped an incredible amount, but with no BC support I'm not interested in acquiring a new one at those prices.

I think the PS3 should be up with the 360 and the Wii primarily because it's a great system. I have both a 360 and a PS3, for the last 3-4 months I've been playing mostly my PS3. The only reason the PS3 is behind would be the price and the decisions Sony made with the production.

I think it's because they cut the damn backwards compatibility. No one wants to buy a new PS3 anymore, everyone wants to find a backwards compatible one off ebay or in a used game store. Taking it out did more hurt than it did help in my opinion. They took it out to encourage people to buy current gen games, but if you ask me it backfired.
Bingo.

The second you said that you immediately lost the argument. Good day sir.

Oh, and you people who whine about the price and the BC need to really shut up. Just plain and simple.

They had to remove BC just to lower the price. So if you want BC, prepare to shell out some money. OR better yet, GET A PS2 WITH IT. Or best yet, use the Ps2 you likely own already!

This is grade school thinking people. You want something. you have to give something else up.

I see you failed to notice I wasn't arguing FOR Microsoft, therefore there was no argument. I stated that no Xbox releases this year interest me either. I wouldnt own either console if I hadn't been gifted an Xbox. Mind you you seem like the kind who would say YOU SHOULD HAVE TRADED IT IN FOR A PS3!!!!!

PS3 will stop losing once they figure out that the expensive-as-fuck-Blu-Ray isn't required for a good system.

You can't ignore the inherent fascinating appeal of most of these games - even if we look at them in the context of all titles, there is a fair amount of toe-to-toe, to the point where Ps3 exclusives regularly outrank multiplatform titles on lists of anticipated games.

Every game system including the Virtual Boy had anticipated games, because at least one poor schmuck was drooling over it. Lets go back to 2008.

Wii:

1. No More Heroes - 83%
2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 94%
3. Mario Kart Wii - 82%
4. Wii Fit - 80%
5. Wario Land: Shake it! - 78%
6. Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility - 64%
7. World of Goo - 95%
8. Wii Music - 63%
9. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - 68%
10. Animal Crossing: City Folk - 71%

Average: 77.8%
PS3:

1. GT5: Prologue - 80%
2. Haze - 55%
3. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - 94%
4. Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty - 76%
5. Wipeout HD - 87%
6. SOCOM: Confrontation - 62%
7. LittleBigPlanet - 95%
8. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift - 81%
9. Resistance 2 - 87%
10. Valkyria Chronicles - 86%

Average: 80.3%
Xbox 360:

1. Ninja Gaiden II - 81%
2. Too Human - 65%
3. Tales of Vesperia - 82%
4. Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise - 82%
5. Infinite Undiscovery - 68%
6. Fable II - 89%
7. Gears of War 2 - 93%
8. Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts - 78%
9. Left 4 Dead - 89%
10. Lips - 72%

Average: 79.9%

In the end, the Playstation 3 did indeed have the most anticipated games by 0.4% with Xbox close behind and Nintendo scurrying along in the back. But if we look at SALES, the important thing, Nintendo is so grossly ahead of the pack that there is no possible chance that they could lose this console generation unless Wii's become sentient and start killing Nintendo consumers. Playstation 3 is doing so poor because it has such a niche audience, Playstation 2, by comparison, had a widely varied catalog of games. The Playstation 3 game list sounds kindof like a Japanese Pride Celebration where most are either JRPGS, or taking heavy notes from JRPGS.

Ah. Alright then.

BEcause I hate it when someone says every game on [insert console] doesn't interest them and that somehow justifies their bashing of said console.

It's a really bad argument for anti-Sony and anti-MS people, or even anti-Nintendo people.

This is from someone who has never EVER BOUGHT either a Sony or Microsoft console. Before I was GIFTED an Xbox 360 I was considering buying one anyway. I have never ever seen a game exclusive to the PS3 that made me want to buy one. I may consider buying one once I have a job, but it would mainly be for the Blu Ray.
