For me it would have to be Planescape: Torment. Right at the end when you discover the truth. If you have played the game you understand, otherwise read the spoiler:

Basically the whole game is a sad tragic tale. You learn that 'The Nameless One' (That is his name, you can't choose but sometimes he lies and calls himself Adahn which is funny) did something so evil that he was doomed to fight in the Blood War. He tried to repent but no amount of time would forgive him. He seeks for immortality and acheives it, but every time he dies he loses all his memories.

So over time he has many incarnations, some doing good deeds, some evil and some just plain crazy. When you play as him, you are the product of everything before you, with NO control over his past actions. You have to deal with everything they have screwed up.

Very very sad tale but an awesome game!

Exactly this moment. I went and rewatched that scene again. I knew exactly when everything was going to happen, but it still almost made me cry.

and I still need to finish mass effect. It's so tempting to press the spoiler buttons especially when there are like 5 different ones.

Don't do it! The last hour of Mass Effect and they way the story climaxes is one of the finest moments in gaming and you don't would be robbing yourself of that experience!

I can't say that I've played a lot of games, but I always feel sad when I watch the World of Warcraft: WotLK trailer. Yes, I know it's not a game but it has to do with a game.

a kind of happy-sad moment when you leave inaba in persona 4 in the REAL ending (the others are sad because they lack closure)

in saints row 2 when you
have to kill carlos

when my pikmin died for the first time because i walked into water, and i saw all their souls rising from their bodies. it's like the game was saying "YOU MONSTER, LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE!!"

getting beaten by the sh3 final boss because i used all my ammo shooting at a menacing wall, and there is none left in the game

the seventh day of every week in the world ends with you

Already been mentioned a gazillion times, but COD 4's ending.

Us English saved the world for a misile attack, and what do we get in return? DEATH. Oh, cheers Infinity Ward. Then again, the Americans got nuked so I suppose that's fair.

May I inquire as to the games name?
sure, it's Half Life 2, Episode 2... I'm trying to be very careful about spoilers!
I did not see that coming at all. Why did you have to lower my weapons Valve!

I'm actually raging.

Just had probably half of FF7 spoilt for me, I only just bought it off the PS3 marketplace thing...

Two parts from The Darkness.
When Jackie is forced to watch his girlfriend Jenny killed, and she never truly understood why. Then Jackie just... gives up and deep throats the same gun used to kill his love.

And at the end, after Paulie begs for his life, and Jackie kills him. The Darkness takes him completly, but before he succumbs, Jenny and Jackie have a few moments to be together. Its all they have.

And Jackie can never tell her how much he loves her, until its far too late. This is the only game that has made me cry, and to this day still does. Just the music from those two scenes is enough to do it.
