A wave of nausea swept through Katie, and she began coughing as well. Her stomach felt like she'd just gotten off a particularly disorienting rollercoaster. She looked up at the sound of Jason's voice, her sight slowly returning to normal.
"Hey, Jason..." she said. "Could you put me down, please? Careful, though. I might cough something up on you, and we don't want that." She gave a faint laugh, slightly amazed by her own words. Even under the effects of a most likely lethal virus and a possible concussion, she could still quip.
Then she felt her stomach heave, and she clamped her lips shut to avoid vomiting all over Jason. The virus was clearly acting faster than she'd imagined.
