While the rest of the group discussed their next move, Katie's thoughts drifted to what Richard had mentioned about pollen spores and her possible ability to manipulate them. She moved a short distance away from the others; close enough to hear what was being said, but far away enough to give herself some space to experiment.
Katie closed her eyes and reached out to the gardens with her mind. All the familiar plants were instantly recognised, but she brushed them away, mentally looking for pollen. This was something she hadn't tried before, and didn't know what to expect.
Then something registered: a tiny speck of life, almost as light as the air it was borne on. Katie stretched out to it, almost as if she was reaching for something a short distance away. Once she was sure she had a firm hold on it, the spore suddenly changed and grew, becoming one of the many different flowers Katie knew. The speck of life she saw with her mind's eye vanished, replaced instantly by the flower.
Katie opened her eyes and let her breath out in one go. Sure enough, there was a new flower lying on the grass, as if it had been picked and tossed aside. "Amazing..." she murmured, picking it up and taking a closer look at it. "Seems Richard's theory was right. I can create a full-grown plant from a single spore." She fell silent, contemplating the implications and possible applications of this new development.
