I think you'll enjoy reading this article. I suggest committing it to memory (and complete comprehension) before trying to modify the words of others :)

I've said it many a time, but there is no honour online on CoD. Not using things like killstreaks or the knife (which I think is an incredibly cheap kill - I mean, one button kill? Where's the skill in that?) means that someone on the server will use them.

I use the riot shield. Why? Because its fun. Everytime I have used it, my kill/death ratio took a hammering but I didn't care.

If you can't beat them, join them. The better players will be able to rise above the random 'nades and knifings...

This has nothing to do with pubbing online. It's about tournament play.

I read the article, but it still didn't make playing a game with half of the content missing seem any more fun.

i wouldnt mind playing by these rules too. plus, any tournament haters out there, watch an mlg finals match or something, they are seriously entertaining and i love watching em. if you go to major league gaming you'll see the finals from the last year of cod4 competitions

Call of Duty wise, I've always had a knife only class, and a class where I only use a silenced pistol. That's it, really.
Same, running around shanking people is always fun. Plus, it's a great way to rack up 30 kills with no real effort.

Constraints make a game just as interesting as the lack thereof does.

Again, that's not the point though. You are taking your subjective opinion and trying to make it come across as an objective fact.

It seems nobody here has ever played a professional ladder. As someone on the "inside" there is always a "promod" or equivalent for competitive play and nearly everyone agrees that it is needed. It by no way means that those same players don't fool around in public servers for giggles enjoying those things. Most teams worth their salt stick to scrims structured in the rule set of their preferred league.

They don't just storm random servers in groups using these rules informally. They Idle scrim channels in IRC and practice with like minded and skilled opponents in their clan's private servers.

Their playing by their own set of varying special rules in their own servers that they enjoy for balanced competitive play hurts you none. There is no reason for all the hate in this thread.

Now, you would think if someone really was a "Pro" they would be able to adapt to any scenario in the game, regardless of what perks and weapons other players use and succeed instead of placing arbitrary limitations on class composition.

While I don't see the point in adding these rules to MW2 (as I find COD 4 to be much better in almost every multiplayer perspective), I can see why they'd want to have it more balanced and why they'd prefer playing this.

That said, I can't see why this actually bothers people. In COD 4 I prefer to play on a server that's free of grenadelaunchers and endless grenade spamming altogether, does that make me a worse player? No, it means I have different preferences to some people.

Honestly, why do people think it's IMPOSSIBLE to have fun playing the game differently? In fact, TF2 is regarded as an awesome game by most on these forums (or that's what it seems like to me), and it's an offspring of that exactly, wanting to play a game differently.

Died the second online multiplayer was invented. Now everythings super serious business.

My rule of thumb is that if you have to apply a whole bunch of special rules to a game to be good, you probably suck pretty hard.
This here comment as an example. Playing the game as it's "meant to be played" as you preach it does not make you better nor does it mean you are enjoying yourself more. For example I like playing COD 4 both modded and unmodded, so what am I? Some kind of crossover between completely horrible (which I'm not) and the set of "good players" who play it "like it's meant to be played?" Seriously, that's just offensive, and like I said before, this wanting to play the game differently results in new and fun things (TF2 like I mentioned above).

Why is it that there's such an enormous attitude towards people for wanting to play the game differently? And who says playing professionally automatically means you're worse (which is obviously completely wrong), and can't have fun with it?

I know you said "probably," but it's still pretty cheap generalizing so much about everyone who prefers a different playstyle to you.

Why does hockey have penalties or soccer/football have red cards then? Or are the players just not "pro" enough?

Stupid. This reminds me about when i play with my nephew and his action figures and he tells me exactly how to play with them...what each guy does, and where to put them, and who he likes and which ones have to fight. I hate that bastard >.<

The only reason they play like this is because its practically identical to the CoD 4 multiplayer experience. They're keeping it similar so they dont have to adopt any new skills, and can still call themselves "pros".

Or nearly everything introduced in MW2 unbalances the game/competitive play.

And that's absolutely true.

Yeah, Its not fun but it shows how "pro" you are. I hate how some people think they are pro or Klutch or 1337. It's annoying. When those "pros" die they can't complain about stuff which may lead them to tears.
