Honestly, any religion which doesn't demand everyone has to be in their religion, because they need to be "saved" from themselves. There aren't to many religions like that >.<
I bacame secular (not an atheist) when I discoverred Christians aren't allowed to whore their religion on the masses and are demanded by the bible to respect other belief systems.

thats not really true, being an athiest means you dont believe in god, but there are religions which dont have a God figure, such as Buddhism and Shinto

i like every religion that allows you to use your own mind, like buddhism, where most of the effort is how to intergrate the teachings into your live.
:)
as you like using your own mind, I'll give you the biggest debate in Buddhist teachings right now, and let me know what you think.

As Prince Siddhārtha Gautama ( the first Buddha, founder of the philosophy) lay dying after ingesting poisoned mushrooms his family, and followers gathered around him, and he reminded them of the 16 precepts... but in his last breaths told them " ignore all the petty ones"

what is debated in all branches and schools, from roshi, to lay persons is " which is the petty ones"

to be honest Im thinking to a degree he meant all of them

Atheists by definition should desire the abolishion of all religions. This forum therefore makes no sense.
...but that doesn't mean that we have to burn down existing cathedrals. I can walk into a church and appreciate the architecture and craftsmanship involved in creating it. I can read Greek mythology or the Bible the same way I read any fictional book. Therefore I can make up my mind which work of fiction I like best. It's like asking you: what's your favorite fantasy movie?

Oh this one is easy. Buddhism. The one religion I've found that doesn't irritatingly try to convert you, and killing someone over not being Buddhist would be anathema to the very tenets they subscribe to, so you're not going to see them having crusades or jihads. It's a religion that focuses on self improvement, rather than forcing others to improve according to how they see things, (ala Christianity and Islam) which is admirable. I don't believe in the spirits and such that they do, but I commend them for being courteous enough to keep said spirits to themselves.

However, if I had to pick a God to worship I'll go with Sylune, Goddess of love from Forgotten Realms. At least her clergy are actively encouraged to have sex with as many devoted followers as they want.

Bhuddists what they say makes sense to me, the only thing I can't get is the whole reincarnation bit.

I found belief to be an interesting subject, but what i couldn't get is that people sometimes die for their belief.

even then only a few sects have any " supernatural" sides to them and those are mostly holdovers from a culture before they began following Buddhist philosophy, most schools use them more metaphorically and nothing else... quite a few also use rebirth/ reincarnation more metaphorically, than others, I'd say it's 50/50 but in say the soto, renzai lineage it's rarely mentioned because thats a " then" not a " now" not a " thats how it is at the moment" thing.. and more of a " if it does and can happen, then it does, if it does not, then thats just it..."

Athiesm just means you don't believe in a god. Not all religions contain gods. Athiesm does not equal like you say, mean you want religion to be abolished.

You mean aside from none of them? Showing favoritism is kind of bad in my opinion.

But if I must answer, I'd say Taoism, since if you pay attention, it's really not much of a religion at all and more of a simple life philosophy devoid of gods and intense superstition. In fact, you could be a "taoist christian" if you so desired, especially since the basic philosophy of Modern Christianity and Taoism are very reconcileable.

I am not saying atheists desire the destruction of all art and architecture inspired by faith to be burned to the ground. Religions are not merely buildings and would continue to exist without any physical structures, as evidenced by the guerilla tactics used by early Christians to avoid Roman domination.

(in this case I do not mean geurilla in the sense of battlefield tactics. I just want to express the secretive nature of the then underground religion)

Jesus died for his beliefs and a religion was founded.

(Please note I believe Jesus could *** and shoot rainbows out his **** as much as I believe in the resurrection)

editted so as not to offend too many Christians.

now I wonder why I would do this given that almost every outwardly Chrisitan person I have ever met has not cared about offending me...

Buddhism or ancient greek/roman/norse
The first completely ignores the issue of gods (except in strange mahayana buddhism)
the later acknowledges that gods are at best megalomaniac perverts who will rape your family then chain you to a wheel of fire and send you rolling across the sky as if it was your fault

you've been watching the Tibetan book of the dead haven't you ?

lol

actually, I'm of a Mahayana branch...Zazen -Soto- focusing more on Shikentaza.. the closest thing one has to a deity is....well I guess for a better lack of terms " the force"

except we cant levitate things, or control force storms, or super jump and all that stuff...

Okay so it's like being a very very very very very boring Jedi

The church burning was of course exaggeration from my part. Yes, religion is not only buildings but even when you want to abolish religions you might still have a preference for one or the other. Be it for reasons of style, wonky-factor or other. Therefore this topic makes as much (or as little) sense as most other discussions here ;-)
