Homophobia sometimes stems from ones own fear/suspicion of being gay oneself. A repression kinda thing.

I fail at explain (and grammar, probably) :(

Did anyone think to consider that maybe you're the crazy ones? I'm not saying homosexuality is something I condemn, but please try to look at things from both perspectives.
And you think I didn't?!

Just becuase there is a reason and another perspective does not mean it's a good reason or a clear undistorted perspective.

the homophobes out there are generally christians. I AM NOT TRYING TO OFFEND YOU PEOPLE

but it is generally true. if you ask a hard christian they will say its because god condemns it.
Since a majority of my friends are Christian, I can say both of these things are true. I, on the other hand, am a Christian that supports Gay rights and marriage.
Surely by supporting gay marriage and rights and being christian you are willingly allowing people to go to hell?

Please dont take this the wrong way, I'm not intending to start a flame war here, but if I'm not mistaken, gay people will, from a christian point of view, all be going to hell along with the atheists etc.???

Ever heard of "sarcasm"?

On topic: I'm not homophobic... At least not in the sense most people mean. I don't care what people who are homosexual do with other homosexuals. But my second greatest fear is that of a homosexual man hitting on me. Thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

What disgusts you so much about homosexuality, or gay marriage or even gay rights?
Femininity.

Men must be dominant. Submissive behavior is unsightly and unnatural.

That's all.
Bondage must freak you right the fuck out, ay?
*cracks whip*

Silence, slave. You'll get 10 lashes for talking out of turn, and double that if you start crying!
Although you can joke about it, things like Bondage and S&M seem to go against your "unnatural argument", many straight men clearly enjoy these kind of fetishes where power roles can be exchanged, couple this with the gay and cross-dressing population and I'd imagine there's a large percentage of men who aren't dominant in the slightest, going against your its only natural for men to be big, testosterone fuelled dominant males who go around killing animals argument.
I have no argument.

I observe my subjective truths and present them to you.

Now, to devil's advocate you, I'll say that men who submit to whippings and ball-gags are treated with a similar disgust as someone who takes it in the ass. It's just worse for gays due to the transfer of fluids.

Also, it does nothing to hurt the 'nature' argument, as they are merely considered flukes of nature. That is specifically WHY they are looked down upon.

So instead of undermining my observation you merely bolster it.

Because people need to oppress somebody now that it's considered wrong to unjustly punish women and people of other ethnicities (cause it is).. gays are the only ones left where there's a large enough following of people who are willing to make there lives harder

Ugh, to all you posters who wonder why someone has a prejudice: When will you understand that some people just hate things for no apparent reason? Also, maybe they have justified opinions in their own worlds. I just don't get why so many people expect everyone to act in a way they themselves find rational. Your reasonings don't always work for everyone because they are personal beliefs.

Did anyone think to consider that maybe you're the crazy ones? I'm not saying homosexuality is something I condemn, but please try to look at things from both perspectives.

And to that guy in the beginning of this thread who said that most homophobes are Christians: nice spelling, clearly you are a highly educated individual to be passing judgement on others as such, and homophobes extend far past those religious boundaries. My guess would be that the Middle East is the most homophobic culture in the world, and that's not a predominantly Christian area.
It's easy to shift the blame on Middle Eastern when they obviously have more important things to worry about, like survival. Yes, it's plain wrong to marginalize the Christians communities for holding true to their beliefs, same goes for trying to shift the blame on some other group.

Either the sixth or seventh ring of hell, I forget which, is devoted to several groups, one of which is sodomites. So yes.

Actually, it may have been the 5th ring. Been forever since I read that thing...

Femininity.

Men must be dominant. Submissive behavior is unsightly and unnatural. Sexual acts performed on women, such as licking, fingering, and breast-fondling are manly things that big strong men do, so lesbians are in the clear. Fellatio is something that weak people do to the strong, and the other way around for anal sex.

That's all.

Edit: That's the actual root cause I see in American Culture, anyway. I think equal rights for gays is something that should be a non-issue; already in place and accepted.
Why must just men be dominant? A woman have just as much right to be dominant. Okay, we're not talking rights here, but still, the only reason that it's believed that men are more dominant than women, is cause the idiots of the pasts thought; "Hey, were bigger and stronger than women, so we should be dominating, while they do the dishes.", and this lead to oppression. Just cause we can be dominating, why should we? Can't women be dominating, and can't men be feminine? And besides, we left being natural a long time ago.

Like saying that you hate animals and love steak because secretly you wish to suckle the teat of a cow as its calf and allow wave after milky wave of sexual ecstasy to overflow in your mouth like a fountain of life and nutrition?

Because I totally know what you mean if so.

Because they are afraid the homosexuals are going to rape them. And the reason they think this is because they would totally rape straight people if they were gay.

"It wasn't Adam and Steve!"

I hate this argument. Guess what? The story of Adam and Eve propagates incest, which is also "against nature".

1) If they are the start of all humanity then anytime a person has sex they're having sex with a family member. Yeah after this long it's not really that big a deal but still, it's all one family.

2) They only had 5 kids IIRC, so (and I can't believe I'm quoting let alone AGREEING with Carlos Mencia) somebody had to bone their sister.

Ironically, the majority of Christian nuts are in the south where incest in America is stereotypically most prominent.

Right, just like women have a right to vote but we've only just recently allowed it.

Just because something is morally correct by our standards doesn't mean it's what's happening or is currently held as objective truth.

In short, women to attempt to be dominant and powerful will be seen with a general disgust by the populace as nagging, overbearing she-devils with an axe to grind against men. Why else would they upset the natural order of things?

Agreeing partly. To the second paragraph, sure, you can be open minded and say 'I see your point of view', but sometimes you have to say 'I see you're point of view, BUT your point ove veiw is wrong.'

Third paragraph, I agree. Partly. Usual prejudice of homosexuality is because of all organised religion, as it is usually in their teachings in some form. Not so much with the Eastern religions though, as western religion is the main perpetraitor of this.

This is one of the many reasons why i'm an aitheist.

Generally, the Escapist isn't homophobic.
If you walk into a mormon church and ask why, you'll get results.
