What makes a person emo? You can tell he's emo by the way he said "Dante"? I say withhold judgement. I can understand some anger, but really i think its because fans got use to dante, his character design is nothing special. Also if he looks scrawny it's probably because he is probably only 18 and if that is the same dante then it's probably about him becoming the person from the other games.
I honestly hate that people call him emo just because of his look. That's stupid. Not everyone who looks that way is a stereotypical emo kid which EVERYONE who calls him that seems to think. Apparently because he has a different style than most people and his hair is black he must cut himself and cry all the time and whatever other stereotypes people place on "emo" kids.

Besides, I wanted to see a DMC 5 that either takes places after 2 or 4. Seriously. Either clip off that cliffhanger or continue on with the bit where Dante, Trish and Lady blast throught the door ready to kick ass.
I am with you on that one. I've been wondering who the hell was riding the motorcycle in DMC2. It COULD have been Dante, since the games were pretty corny... but then again, it was said the portal closed and he couldn't get out, ever. I mean, Vergil only got out with the help of Mundus.
I see an easy way to fix that too. Something really bad happens. Trish contacts Nero to help get Dante and save the world. You spend the first four or five missions as Nero going to X place to use Yamato to open a gate to hell. During this time you get all the little tutorial stuff out of the way and maybe learn something about his past. Then, for the next five to ten missions, you are Dante in hell. You have to make your way to the gateway Nero opened. Then, the last five to ten mission could be Dante beating the hell out of whatever big bad happens to be threatening the world.
I spent no more than five minutes coming up with this, and honestly I like it.
You know, I do too. But I more expected for the ending of Devil May Cry series to be epic. Main characters dying off in a big war against some of the biggest baddies Dante has fought, like Mundus returning, along with Mundus' father, since Mundus was known as the PRINCE of Darkness, or so I heard in the first game. And all of the Demons pissed off at Sparda return at once to wreak havoc. I expect Nero to have been sneak attacked, thinking he and Kyrie finally found peace, and then Lady would be overwhelmed and killed, of course. Lucia and Trish would die off in some other ways, maybe being taken prisoner, and Dante actually gets HURT for once, instead of God moding everything. I mean, how many times has he been stabbed in the chest? -.-

EDIT: And in the end he gives his life to seal the Demons away once more, just like his father had done, except the seal is more powerful, since he has surpassed his father.
Well... Dante has stupid fast healing powers. The fight between him and Deadpool may be the best example I can give of a fight that would never end.
I'm not sure how much I like everyone dying. I mean Kyrie and Lucia can push up as many daisies as they want to, but the rest had better stay.
Wow that sounds really bad seeing as how that was half of the females in the game.
I think the ending would be better with all the heroes together and Dante getting closure, finally accepting his demon-half. Maybe after fighting Vergil one last time in hell.
I think Vergil accepted his weakness after losing to Dante, and would join a three-way co op with Dante and Nero. Except, Nero wouldn't be able to use DT without Yamato, and I doubt Vergil will accept giving it up to Nero (who may or may not be his son. Remember: half-demons age differently then humans. No one knows Vergil's or Dante's true age.)
I heard somewhere that Dante was supposed to be eighty or something as of DMC 4. I'm sure Vergil had plenty of time to have a kid and send him off to an orphanage before his big plans.
Maybe an illegitimate child? Had sex with one of the random people in that town before leaving? I doubt he would have cared enough to drop his kid off at the door of a church of Sparda. Vergil so doesn't seem the type. To be honest, he seems too into his rivalry with Dante and his hatred of his father to even have sex, y'know?
I looked it up. One of the creators is quoted as saying Dante was 19 in DMC 3 and 28 in DMC (29 in DMC 4 (that guy that told me otherwise was way off)).
Maybe Nero is the reincarnation of Sparda or something. He may have been born the exact moment Sparda died or something and thus blah blah blah. I don't know. Speaking of people dying, in the same quote, its stated that Dante was eight when his mo died.
Hmmm... I swear I saw one of the creators being quoted as saying that Nero was Vergil's son... I may have seen something differently. I don't know, Nero is the most mysterious character out of the entire series, mostly because they gave him no friggin' background and made his arm and his past an entire secret. Especially the part where he tells Kyrie to run, except the fact being that THAT was the day he got his arm changed. I doubt it was the day his hair changed to white and he gained new blood too...
According to the DMC wiki, Nero was hinted at being Vergil's son in the DMC 4 novel and confirmed by a Capcom employee at an event in 2009. So yes, he's Vergil's kid.
Whooo. And wait... DMC4 novel? Crap... I need to get that one... But now we come to the question... Vergil must've been... 10 when he had Nero... which makes no sense. Soooo... I think they screwed up their own story again.

Just like they said Vergil AND Dante's mother were killed by demons, yet Vergil was never killed.

Speaking of, I would like to know what happened between Vergil and Dante in the first place, to make Vergil go off on his own, and when, and what his true intents were. I know most were mentioned as him just wanting more power, but there could be more, since he was partly human, no matter how much he despised it.

EDIT: And yeah, I made that reference to many forums about this: His blood, the only one other than Dante to be able to wield and control/fix Yamato, the Devil Trigger, the name Nero (Nero Angelo). And funny because everything in DMC4 ended with Angelo. Well... the bosses did. Credo was considered Credo Angelo after transforming, I think, same with Sanctus.
Actually... Sanctus became Sanctus Diabolus.
As far as Vergil's quest for power goes, I think it was something about blaming his mother's death on her weakness. Her weakness being her humanity. Thus he seeks to become stronger to the point where he would deny his own humanity.
Dante on the other hand blamed the demons that attacked her. He then goes out of his way to kill as many demons as he can. Going as far as trying to deny his own demonic heritage.
It makes for a great yin-yang kinda thing.
It does, but even Vergil wouldn't kill Dante, and not just because Dante was the superior. He did still have a human side, and I think, just as Dante felt love for his more-demon brother (sort of), Vergil must have felt a little love for his more-human brother, since they WERE still related. Vergil wasn't completely heartless.

And when I say "more-Demon/more-Human" I mean the blood they choose to accept most, ya know? I mean, he clung to his mother's amulet tightly, showing he at least held something from his mother close to his heart. I doubt it was just because of his want of Sparda's sword.

Though this may all be because I'm a big "Good side in all" kind of person, albeit quite pessimistic.

I would love to have more BOOKS that give detailed backgrounds to both Vergil and Nero, but I wouldn't want them to have their own crappy spin-off games. Those never work. Look at Shadow the Hedgehog's game... I loved him in Sonic Adventure 2, but hated his game.
I don't think Vergil would outright kill Dante unless he stood to gain a great deal from it. Just like how Vergil was able to stop his attack while under Mundus' control in DMC 1 when he saw the other half of the perfect amulet.

Actually, as an amendment to my previous idea for DMC 5, I have this to alter. On his way out of hell, Dante encounters Vergil. The two fight (because Vergil is a perfect boss character) and Dante convinces Vergil to help him at least this one time. The two escape from hell thanks to Nero having opened a portal for them. Nero returns Yamato to Vergil, his inner demon having been fully awakened when he opened the gateway to hell. Dante, Vergil, Nero, Trish and Lady all go up against the big bad, let's say Mundus' father. Hell, let's say it the devil himself. So a giant fallen angel being brought down by all the heroes of the DMC universe. That would be a fitting end to the DMC series, if they were to end it.

fair point, though I suppose the Metroid fans could tell sympathize with us a bit here
Metroid Other M, y'all can go crawl in a ditch somewhere to die, Let me point out a few successful reboots, Megaman Zero (best games in the franchise since the original Megaman X), Metroid Prime (New gameplay while keeping everything we loved about the series intact), & Fallout 3 (All the best parts of the original fallout minus the clunky controls and odd combat).

As far as the whole "Emo" thing is concerned, why must we call every indifferent hero "emo", remember Squall (FFVIII)?

He's not emo. He's more... rebellious teenager? I dunno. He looks like a punk. Not the rocker kind of punk, but the punky kinda punk. The English language is insufficient so I will call him a squnk (not to be confused with the legendary squirrel-skunk).

This guy is too busy cutting other people. You can't call character emo because of a 2 min trailer, in fact he is probably a punk kid who is forced to grow up. Being emo isn't about a look and i didn't even think that when i saw him, i just thought he was young. The original dante wasn't anything amazing.
infamous 2 was a little different, cole wasn't the normal hero and i could believe he might be a villain. His voice was also specific to him, anyone would recognise it, but in infamous 2 a year later he becomes nathan drake lol.

Meh, I only ever played the first two DMC and the third a bit. So I've been out of the loop for a while now, a reboot actually works well for me. And I haven't been exposed to the series in so long I will barely be comparing it to old games. If its good based on its own I'll like it, if not then oh well, I didn't expect the series to keep going anyway.

It would, to be honest. I like your ideas for the game lol. Though, it would still leave questions for me, since I like to question EVERYTHING. Such as, what would Vergil do then? What would he have to do? And Nero, no doubt, would go live in peace with Kyrie, and start beliving in God again (which was Sparda to them. He stopped believing because of Kyrie's parents being killed.) Dante... well, I guess he would just continue his job. Trish and Lady would just help, I guess. -shrug-

Oh, and I know about Kyrie's parents because I found a translated version of DMC4 novel summary, if you would like the link.

Also, DC comics is making a DMC comic. I can't wait.

The new design was jarring to me at first, but I think I know where Capcom is going with this. I think the Dante we'll be playing in the new game is going to be (obviously) younger, less experienced, less refined, and lacking at least a few of the trademark traits and characteristics we all love in the character.
However, bear in mind that this is a prequel, and the purpose of prequels is usually to tell how a character came to be the way we know them. So, odds are we'll see him pick up the coat, lighten his hair (possibly as a side effect of coming into his demonic heritage?), and probably get the sword.
I'm worried about the new game, since changes to a well-established character are always tricky, but I'm willing to give this game a chance. For anyone who's still too pissed off about the changes to give it a try, and least the Dante we all know and love will be in top form in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Exactly what I thought! D: I hated how badly they changed Cole. I like his new look, to be honest.

Same with Dante's new look. But that's just because I like the punk/emo style or whatever.

They are!? Awesome.
Yeah, my idea may be a bit rough, but I think it just might be better than a reboot. At least finish the series before restarting it. Besides, now that I think about it, they spent the whole fourth game establishing the fact that someone, who isn't Dante, has the power to open or close the gateway to hell. What other reason could that have been for, other than to finish up what DMC 2 started.

I have 1 minor problem why is Dante a smoker?
Cause it's so edgy and cool! Dante is obviously totally against the system! Row row fight the power!

Fun fact: Kamiya intentionally made Dante a non-smoker because he thought it was cooler. Fuck you Ninja Theory.

Actually, ANYONE can open the portal. The guy with the monocle (forgot his name) Needed only Yamato. Yamato is the key to opening the portal, which makes me worry. But it would make a good clue as to how the other demons freed themselves from Hell. Say Mundus' father takes control over a sleeping Kyrie and has her take Yamato and open the portal for him and his demons to rise. Or... something.

And yeah: http://www.capcom-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31361
That's the link to the summaries. But the Japanese hate us too much to give us the actual books. xD

What I hope this game is, but doubt it is after going back over the chronology, is that this is the phase Dante went through when he was maybe 13 - 16 where he completely denied his demon heritage and killed demons to get revenge for his mother's death. It would explain him dying his hair and everything. It would also explain why he doesn't use rebellion, rebellion being his father's sword and a devil arm, a weapon usable only by demons.
I dunno. I want to believe Capcom wouldn't ruin one of their more iconic series, but my fanaticism, which I am desperately trying to suppress (to no avail) is making me believe otherwise.

"This a complete reboot of the series, holding little to no ties with previous entries in the franchise. Unlike previous games in the series, the game will not be developed internally by Capcom but rather by British developer Ninja Theory."

I just found this, so... who knows? Capcom isn't technically making it. Just held responsible lol
