I think the new look is refreshing actually. As someone who has not had the fortune to play the first three (Damn you Nero...), I think finding out about Dante's past would be really interesting. To judge the game as a failure just because young Dante doesn't look almost identical to his older self seems a bit rash though.

What I hope for is a smoother overall experience with DMC. Devil May Cry 4 just felt off for being the next generation installment. Even the cutscenes seemed to not flow with the rest of the gameplay, jolting the flow.
Actually, mate, sadly it was confirmed as a reboot to the series :T Meaning this isn't the original Dante. This is a complete new character with a new story.
Hmmmm...

*goes back to watch trailer*

"My name is... Dante?" Huh, well, this should be interesting. I suppose it works well for me then because I haven't played the others, so if it's good, this new DMC will be like a fresh start. At least I won't have so face as great a risk as being 98% lost.

Are the makers of this particular game known for quality or... the other way around that everybody's hoping it doesn't end up as?

What I hope this game is, but doubt it is after going back over the chronology, is that this is the phase Dante went through when he was maybe 13 - 16 where he completely denied his demon heritage and killed demons to get revenge for his mother's death. It would explain him dying his hair and everything. It would also explain why he doesn't use rebellion, rebellion being his father's sword and a devil arm, a weapon usable only by demons.
I dunno. I want to believe Capcom wouldn't ruin one of their more iconic series, but my fanaticism, which I am desperately trying to suppress (to no avail) is making me believe otherwise.
"This a complete reboot of the series, holding little to no ties with previous entries in the franchise. Unlike previous games in the series, the game will not be developed internally by Capcom but rather by British developer Ninja Theory."

I just found this, so... who knows? Capcom isn't technically making it. Just held responsible lol
...dang.
I read those summaries. Good stuff. Vergil talking to Nero just before activating his Devil Trigger for the first time. Why couldn't they put that in the game? It would've had a better effect than him calling out Kyrie over and over.
Maybe this'll be the Mega Man Battle Network of the DMC franchise and they'll keep making normal DMC games.
That's what I think. And yeah, those summaries are good. And I predicted the reason that Dante never really kept his Devil Arms when someone on my other thread asked why Dante always had to earn new weapons and whatnot. I predicted correctly too. And this gives a LOT of insight on some of the questions I had about the game, too. But again, 16-17 years ago, Vergil was ten or eleven, according to Capcom's timeline...

EDIT: -.- I also just saw the part that said Dante ages just about the same rate as a normal human... so all of my arguments about his slow aging are wrong :/
Well, I guess they could fudge and extra ten years somewhere to make it more believable. Unless Vergil gets ahold to a means of time travel in a later installment (insert spooky time travel noise).
...
I really should beat DMD mode on DMC4 soon...
You and me both, mate, but FFS, Dante just isn't as spammable as Nero when the Assaults go all DT on you. OR the Blitz's. With Nero I merely spammed the "Flame-Up" button for his sword and had him on Auto, so that his gun and
sword would charge up as I spammed the Devil Bringer.
I just can't imagine the pain Hell or Hell mode will bring. Then again, I'll have Super Dante/Nero so it might not be but so bad.
Exactly. Though, I bursted through Heaven or Hell mode without a hit, so this shouldn't be so bad... or... wait... Hell or Hell has one hit to baddies AND Dante/Nero, right? Or just to Dante/Nero?
Dante/Nero are on hit, but the baddies are from DMD.
Fuck. That. Noise. I couldn't beat the DMD baddies on DMD, let alone Hell or Hell mode. Well... as Nero I kicked ass, even against Sanctus... he was kind of a push over. But as Dante... ugh... It took me forever to get out of that forest as Dante. But I haven't played in so long, I'm not even sure I got out of it; Might have been a dream lol.
On second though, I think someone said it was the same as Son of Sparda. I don't know. I'll tell you if I ever get there.

Ninja Theory have, thus far, made average games. They're really only known for Heavenly Sword a quote unquote C+ God of War knockoff.

Uhm, Heavenly Sword wasn't a HORRIBLE game. I enjoyed the characters and story, but it all depends on your own forte, I guess. Just like some people like his new like and others don't. Whether they played the games or not. I actually think I might enjoy the story. Not sure on the gameplay.

FINALLY! Thank you, you are now part of the minor group that likes dante's new look I'm glad to see there are other people that are open to a change in the main characters change in looks
O_O why does it say you quoted me saying "SNIP"?

But yes, I admit, I adore his new look. It works for the whole dark, gritty theme. And I enjoy the slightly less gothic outfit. He is wearing something people actually wear.

I have said it before, but his other outfits consist of:
1. A Gothic Dress Suit
2. A gothic vampire outfit
3. Some supermodel-like outfit, which made no sense.
and 4. A cowboy outfit... really?

EDIT: Although, the British flag on his left arm of the coat is a bit random...
This isn't actually better than any of that though.

Just for luls Ninja Theory should have made Dante black, and changed all the music to hip-hop. Though I think that sort of change would be much better since he wouldn't look like a junkie who had just been raped in prison.
I guess it depends on your type of style. I like the punk look and style, and I sort of like this reboot, though I have yet to have an opinion on gameplay or story.

It's Son of Sparda difficulty, but instead of say...3 Scarecrows, and an Assault in a room; you'll have about 12 Scarecrows, 4 or 5 Assaults, and maybe a Blitz thrown in there for good measure.

Most fun I have ever had playing a DMC game!!

In the mean time, I suppose I could always give Heavenly Sword a rent (Movie/game pass = no loss).

Fingers crossed that they don't screw DMC up too bad and possibly even make a great game out of it. Now that I have a PS3 (and DMC 4 was cross-platform) and can actually play Devil May Cry, it would suck if the series all of a sudden went downhill.

Yes, yes it would. But everyone's expectations will be so low, that it will of course surprise people in certain aspects. Just like how everyone kept putting very high expectations on the Halo games and they only bombed more and more because it didn't live up to the majorly high expectations.

I really don't get the complaining about Dante at all. Surely it must be some elaborate prank or something.

Fans don't like this protagonist, because his hair isn't white? Is it possible, that his hair was not always white... You're getting to find out more about Dante, what the hell is wrong with that. More character depth, more lore, more history... If Dante grew so old that his hair started to fall out, would you really say "Damn, well it just isn't Dante anymore"? what?
1. Its a reboot. Not a prequel
2. Its established that Dante's hair was always white.
3. Its not just the hair. Its like having a Mega Man game, but instead of playing as Mega Man you are a computer program commanded by a small child on the internet... wait a minute... Capcom!!!
Sir, I do disagree.

Those two things shouldn't be mutually exclusive. There's no reason why it can't be a reboot of the series that starts off with a prequel, to have such restrictions means the same kinds of restrictions on design and creativity.

No, I don't understand what the big deal is, nor your analogy. So far it seems like there's just a CGI video, but in it he moves like Dante, fights like Dante. Because they're trying something new (younger Dante) means they're not being faithful to the series? I don't think continual repetition is faithful to be honest.

I can't help it, I really really liked DMC4, it was one of the best games that ran on my PC..but then I had to reformat it, and now my computer makes DMC4's framerate lag ever since(and yes I have downloaded drivers and all that)

But basically...umm.. DMC4 for achievements on my part...Beat all the difficulties except for Hell or Hell, got most of all the other small achievements, S ranked all Easy Missions, and I just S ranked all Normal missions before I stopped =S

But back on topic...I kind of like the new Dante, but I don't. I mean this game will probably turn out great, and it might be wonderful, but I really want DMC5..kind of like how I don't really want Sonic 4, not that I hate that, but I'd rather have Sonic Adventure 3

It is, and by god it is joyous =D

It's Son of Sparda difficulty, but instead of say...3 Scarecrows, and an Assault in a room; you'll have about 12 Scarecrows, 4 or 5 Assaults, and maybe a Blitz thrown in there for good measure.

Most fun I have ever had playing a DMC game!!
You, my friend, are one hardcore gamer. Shit, if I could beat DMD mode easily, I might agree with you on that being fun. But if it is hard for me to combo on the console, think of me on the PC....

-imagines world war 2 allllllll over again..... with a Blitz thrown in for good measure...-
I couldn't help but laugh at that last Blitz comment. I freaking hate Blitz-es. Making me save my Devil Trigger because I'm afraid they'll grab me. -mumble mumble grumble-
Hah! You're telling me. But the Assaults haunted me more. The DT Assaults with their Resident Evil tentacle monsters. -shivers- Not even my DT helped me against three of those bastards at once.

According to the studio, or whatever, its a new story, in a new world, about a new character who happens to fight demons. They're just naming this character Dante and the game DmC to draw in more people off the reputation of the original IP.

They're making a third?!

If it's as amazing as the second one I will get it. I LOVED Shadow in it. Never loved a more bad ass hedgehog. And the Chao system made me happy. I purposely spent hours trying to find the right hidden animals to morph my Chao into what I wanted, and spent even more hours training and putting it into races.

And I love the punk look. And his new morphing sword. And I am curious as to why he gets captured. In fact, this game really has me anxious, surprisingly, the more I think about it. And first time I saw his picture I wanted to burn everything I had marked DMC in mourning.
