I think both games are equally bad. Having tried both, I got about as far in either before quitting in boredom. So yeah.

I grew up with PC games, I have no affinity for console franchises.

The point is education has nothing to do with it, different backgrounds and different tastes mean people like different games.

So tonight at church, my friend was playing the theme from inside Link's house on piano (from Zelda OOT obviously) and this kid who was probably 13 came up and said, "Legend of Zelda is such a gay game!"
"Why do you say that?" I inquired
"Because you run around as a gay little elf!"
"You're retarded" I replied.
"You know what is an awesome game" he said "WWE vs Smack down!"
"Now THAT'S a gay game! You watch 2 muscular sweaty men in underpants touch each other!"
I then turned back to my friend and kept listening to him play piano.

The intelligent thing to do would have just been to stonewall him. Stooping to his level just makes you look bad.

Or take the opportunity to introduce a 13 year old (traditionally scared of looking effeminate) to some different games, he probably wouldn't dig Zelda but try final fantasy or something like Arcanum.

With kids like him, you're usually better off waiting till they've grown up a bit. And Final Fantasy would be a terrible way of introducing him to RPG's. No offense or anything, it's just that he's turn around and call them "stupid" and "gay" too.

Either way, I'm 15 too, and I don't give a shit if he generalizes or not. I know what I know, and I don't need some sort of affirmation from some guy.

Perhaps the wording is wrong, or maybe not. On the one hand, yeah, they are uneducated, maybe about the Legend of Zelda's universe, its characters etc, but on the other hand, it's not so much 'uneducated', as 'just plainly arrogant'. He's a child, and today's youth are arrogant, not uneducated. You could try educating him, but his belief is so strong that I doubt you'd succeed.

And I can gather that from the fact that I'm pretty sure that if he knows to call it 'gay', then I'm sure he has played the game, seen someone playing it, or seen videos and/or pictures of it. There is nothing in the game to give him the idea that the game is 'gay', it's just his pure arrogance, not his uneducatedness.

Either way, I'd slap him upside the face. I wouldn't give a shit about being 'the bigger man'. I'd just try to get him to shut the fuck up.

About the games I could care less. Everyone has their own opinions. But this (above) is really the problem, the fact that these kids, and about 90% of kids that I know, use the word "gay" as a slur. It's really starting to piss me off.

Is the constant stream of crap that kids think constitutes a brilliant game destroying their fragile young minds? Surely there are some of you out there who know people like this or know of young gamers who know a crap game from a good one?

Really? I was about 14 when I first played Final Fantasy 8 and I loved it. The awkward main character really struck a chord with me. There aren't many Final Fantasy games I've played but 8 was good at the time. Maybe something a bit more thinky but with action then, mech warrior or something'd appeal.

It's kind of funny that people expect kids to like games from when we were younger though, I don't dig 50's movies so why would they like retro games?
