kill streak speculation: Go!
Since there was such a difference in how the two sides fought the war, it wouldn't really make sense for the two sides to have identical killstreaks. As for the Americans, I could see them replacing artillery strikes with napalm, and you could swap dogs for a helicopter run a-la Apocalypse Now. Outside of that, I'm not sure.
ummm, boobie trapping someone and then poking them with a sharp stick for Vietnamese?
If they really wanted to court controversy, then one of the killstreaks for the VC could be spawning civilian AI's into the area, then giving the opposing team a penalty for shooting them.

I can guarantee there will be booby traps in multiplayer, and if so, the next most commonly said phrase in CoD7 online will be:

"ITS A TRAP!!!"

or...

"U USED A CH3AP @$$ TR@P U N0000B!!111"
Knowing people's tendency to ***** about everything, it will be the latter. Even if the traps are in plain view and easily avoidable, they will still ***** about it being unfair.
And people think claymores are a pain.
We can assume the following shall be deemed "n00bish"

1. Killing Someone
2. Using Traps
3. Hiding in a bush
4. Using Camouflage
5. Killing Someone
6. Using the Flamethrower (assuming flamethrowers are present)
7. Using a gun
8. Killing someone
9. Using a knife
10. Using Commando Pro, Marathon Pro, and Lightweight Pro (KNOWING we'll still have those perks)
11. Killing Someone
Add:

12. Being in the Match
Add:

13: using kill streak rewards.
14. Using that "glitch" that allows you to shoot bullets from the end of your "gun"
15. not being a high rank
16. Having a gun in your hands, whether you use it or not

OT: played MW2 online for the first time last night, and at rank 5, with a K/D of 19/17, was best in the match. I hadn't played CoD online since SEPTEMBER, either.

Yeah, but the terrorists and Rangers in COD4 and MW2 have the same kill streaks. I mean, Brazilian slum gangters aren't exactly running around with predator drones... I doubt Treyarch will sacrifice balance for realism.

From the article:

...and takes particular influence from classic movies Apocalypse Now and Platoon.
This angers me. Why not take 'particular' influence from, you know, the war itself? There are plenty of first-hand accounts and war footage out there to avoid the embellishing of Hollywood for production reasons. I remember hearing some IW employee mention that while COD4's campaign was meant to be a realistic depiction of modern warfare, they made MW2's to be 'cinematic'. Which did you like more?
the more realistic COD4 was better

OT: I just hope they do the guys who died some justice but not some ultra flag waver.

Exactly.

Its gonna be interesting to see how they handle the controversial aspects though.

Sidenote: Maybe I'm just a monster, but does anyone else want to see actual people in the game? Like hearing a rumor about Admiral McCain's son's plane being shot down, or coming across Kerry in the jungle? It'd be weird.

How about Forrest Gump to run into the battlefield and save everyone who's down? And the other team gets penalized for shooting him, cuz' no one shoots Forrest Gump. That's just mean.

take your pick my top 5 would be

1. carpet bombing
2. Mig/plane strike where you control a mig jet or fighter plane and gun down enemies
3. napalm carpet
4. AC-130 spectre

That's... actually not that bad of an idea. I mean, everyone's going to say it sucks, but at least it's a creative idea.

Quick! Name 5 WWII games. Easy, right? Now name 5 Vietnam games! That one's a lot harder. At least they're going for creativity this time which is nice.

Unless you shoot him in the butt-tocks.

Oh, fun link. Alright to be unoriginal:
Dogs
Care Package
Regular Airstrike
Helicopter Support

And new ideas:
Booby Trap (set down 3, basically a trip mine, 5 kills?)
Napalm Airstrike (napalm hangs around for a while, all vegetation gone afterwards. 9 kills?)
Pilotable Heli (11 kills?)

If you ask me, any game set in vietnam should be more story driven than the CoD WAW set up where you just play through campaign missions. That style of game just doesn't work for vietnam.

Sweet. I was sick of WW2 and Present/Near Future wars.

This is new. This is different. (Yes, I know they have been a few Vietnam games before, but not enough, and not in a long time, well except for Shellshock 2.)

GO TREYARCH! And keep the campaign co-op.
Battlefield Vietnam was the best one ever. You could even play awesome music in all of the vehicles.

My senses say that the traps will be QTEs. Which I actually wouldn't mind; it would give you a chance before instant spikey/exploding death. I hope they'll put in a VC campaign/ not make the whole ordeal an "America is great, Death to Communism!" wankfest. On second thought, if they did both it would be great.

I for one will be using "YOU FOOL! YOU'VE ACTIVATED MY TRAP CARD!"
