I love true blood and I watch it every Sunday... religiously. Once you get over the bad acting, the little storylines really draw you in. The supporting cast really makes the show.

Oh True Blood...you make me cry. I am a big fan of the book and have been for years. True Blood however to me is a huge disappointment. My first issue is the casting. How hard is it to find gorgeous blond actors in Cali? I know it is a hard thing to find now because they totally miscast Sookie, Eric, and Pam.
Sookie-The actress who plays Sookie is for lack of a better descriptive word, horrible. She is too short, not pretty enough, and her so fake Southern accent is insulting and hurts my ears. Not to mention her smile is horrible and that was one of the defining details of the main character.
Eric-The character Eric is described as a tall, gorgeous, buff, commanding viking. I was kinda excepting someone liking like Thor(comic book reference). Instead the actor is none of the things. The guy is too short, and too skinny. I personally do not find him gorgeous at all, he is a 6 at best. As for a commanding presence, I have seen hamsters with more of a presence.
Pam-The character is described as a young evil milk maid. The actress playing her looks too old and is playing her too vampy.
I just don't understand. If the author has bothered to give detailed descriptions of a character, why is it so hard to follow them?

My second problem with the show is the storyline-WTF. Why is Tara now a main character in this show when she is barely in the books, and why did they have to make her so damn annoying and uninteresting? Why is her cousin so involved in this show? I don't want to spoil anything for people who have not read the first book but he is not a huge part of it at all.

The only really good thing I can say about this show is Jason. The actor's body is fantastic and the reason I watched the show. They kept him naked most of the season, and I truly appreciate that.

I watched maybe four or five first episodes.
I thought the consept had a lot of potential, what with vampires coming public and the politics of that, but there wasn't enough of that. I would have preferred the show had dealed more with that side and less with the relationship-stuff, which all was something we had already seen so many times before.

So it didn't interest me enough to continue watching. Also, I didn't like the amount of random sex that had nothing to do with the plot.

Two, it has far, far to much in common with the Anita Blake book series for me to take it seriously. (it has a little bit in common with Twilight too, which doesn't help.)

I also feel that it contributes to this appalling Vampire Romance genre that cropped up a few years ago; a genre that deeply offends and angers me.
yeah cause Bram Stoker NEVER EVER wrote about women falling in love with Dracula, i mean Mena didn't lust after Dracula at all, so the story that started it all probly would offend you as well. you should learn your vampire mythology before you go spouting off on it

and frankly it's really got nothing to do with the Twilight series, it's actually pretty well written

I quite like the show, it uses romantic elements a tad bit to much in my opinion. But, that could be contributed to it being an HBO show. It has taken a much more mature view of itself in the new season which makes me happy.

Sookie is held back by a bad actress and being the main character, I wish jessica would shut the hell up, and jason is a buffoon.

I have to ask this.... What is with the obsession of the females of our species and vampires?
If they existed, they wouldn't be sexy, they would be violent, blood hungry monsters. I'm sure more than 80% of Escapists have played one of the VtM series, either bloodlines or redemption.
The Sabbat. That's how vampires would be, were they not fictional.
So, again I ask what's with the female obsession with vampires? And why does everybody find Robert Patterson attractive? He looks like a future paedophile!
Because monsters are amazing. And I'm pretty sure it's a human reaction to be turned on by scary or thrilling things that could potentially cause you harm. I'm not sure why.

He is a bit... chinny. But otherwise, I don't see the big fuss over people finding him attractive.

this crap has gone on long enough. enough with the vampires. they used to be cool, until twilight got their stubby little hands on them. I mean really. it used to be that they would burst into flames in sunlight. in twilight, they glitter. really. the new movie is gonna be "hmm, do I want the pale ******, or do I want the indian werewolf? EAT ME EAT ME EAT ME."

I don't have any problem with people lusting after Vampires, that is a very common path to food for a Vampire. It's when Vampires are included solely as a sex device, or to a lesser extent the idea of a Vampire having a meaningful relationship with a person (but largely only when the Vampirism is, as said really only there to make the man more 'mysterious' or attractive to women)

As for the Twilight thing, I was really hesitant to mention it because you're right, the writing is much better.

I didn't mean to anger you, I am a huge fan of Vampires in general and I've read a great deal of literature concerning Vampires. I believe Vampire romance can be done right. Maybe I haven't watched enough of True Blood but the initial impression I got from the series reminded me very much of Anita Blake, a series that I felt started out well but quickly degenerated into Vampire porn. Also it did not help that the people who watch True Blood that I know are almost exclusively huge Twilight fans, which is why I mentioned it at all.

I like True Blood. It's an interesting take on Vampires as a way to explore some moral grey areas, as well as the most extremes of evil. It applies liberal tongue-in-cheek humor and some thoughtful social commentary. There's good intrigue, and hot chicks and dudes to satisfy whatever way you lean. Really, whats not to like?

I think it's a great show, the characters have depth and it really makes you wanna keep watching. Hoyt (sp?) is also such a badass when he stands up to his mum, and Godric is so amazing when he's all like 'I knew your Jesus'

That owned those crazy zealots to be sure.

I watched half of an episode, and thought to myself: Wow, this is terrible. If there was a way for me to go back in time and undo myself watching this awfully acted pile of pop-culture capitalizing I would. But I can't, so I'll just turn it off and never watch it again.

So it's safe to say I didn't enjoy it.

I haven't seen it, I haven't heard anyone male actually voice their approval of this show. Chances are I'll probably never watch it unless someone tells me it's great.

Your also male... and straight? Or are you, I always assumed you were... Huh...
I am.
Though it'd be tough to describe me as "straight."
More... "does not like men, is very fond of lady friends."

But I can appreciate attractiveness in either gender.
Like Scott Bakula.

Yes, I want to show that clip to a Jesus Freak, that would be entertaining. And Hoyt is truly becoming a badass...
