dear lord...and I used to enjoy that site

I hope I don't show signs of becoming like that *thinks back to recent conversation I had about weather or not assari had nipples*......oh dear god
Hey, don't be too hard on yourself; there's gotta be something to fill the void now that nobody cares whether or not Dwarf women have beards. Asari nipples seem fitting.

...wait there are forums there? And here I assumed people just used it to see an overview of some tropes. Guess I'm doing it wrong.

The tvtropes forums are Hell, and I was banned a while back for some BULLSHIT reason, but the wiki remains as great as ever. Still better than Something Awful.

Meh I used to like TVT but nowadays everytime I'm reading up on some trope the only examples I find or analysis is another five or six tropes, in my opinion that kind of goes against the idea of having a site meant to classify and analyze tropes.

I wouldn't take that SA thread seriously, they just cherry pick the worst or take things out of context. The TVT forums are no better or worse than here or anywhere else
*sigh* Thank you, it was about time someone said that. Really, as someone who used to be a Troper, I can assure everyone that the forums aren't really that bad compared to anything else. As for Fetish Fuel/Troper Tales, I'll give you that, but the forums I really don't remember being that bad.

What a weird-ass website. I thought TVTropes was a website where you wrote notable recurring features about actors/actresses and video personalities?
Not that these suggestions deviate from what I thought the website was for, but I'll be damned if it's not borderline creepy/paedo.

EDIT: Yeah, here we go - I found Sterling on there: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Jimquisition

Tv Tropes is a big collection of "Simpsons did it!"
http://youtu.be/iDuMp2kDxos

Kinda takes the fun out things....however...to have it used a play by play of things for a pervert to see. That should stay on the specialist sites.

Type in the right trope and it starts becoming the Perverts handbook to what episodes to whack off too.

How lovely of you to call me a lunatic for enjoying a thought-provoking story with a good mix of comedy and drama and fairly complex characters.
lolololol. For the love of god tell me you're being sarcastic.

OT: I had no idea TVT had this creepy side, that's fucked up, as is this video.

I don't see any harm in them trimming all the bullshit, after all you don't see them putting up say, porn film tropes. So why should crazy japanese "age 13 girls are legal in our country but under-aged in the rest of the world" paedophilia be allowed?
I like that there is a place with a list of tropes and when they were used but honestly, isnt the trope in the video called "Panty Shot"? Just because the underwear of a character can be seen doesnt make it a panty shot, those guys go in a very creepy amount of detail to include every moment that underwear can be seen, even if inapropriate.

Usually a panty shot is made for humor and/or fan service since the panty shot (as the name sugests) is a shot focused on the... erhm... panties, most of the examples found on that page are just shots that happen to include the sight of such things (trying to avoid to use the word "panties") and if the tropers think that those are panty shots then they are focusing on the wrong thing.

Thank god I never go to that type of tropes, I just usually roam the character archetypes and narrative stuff

I love TvTropes and i learned a lot of interesting things about media there. But... yeah, the community seems to be pretty bad. I've never been to the forums and i pretty much only know about it because i've watched the This Troper videos on YouTube but... god, there are some really horrible people on there. But that doen't mean TvTropes isn't still a great site. If they weed out the black sheeps there wouldn't be a problem.

Chalk me up as another suffering from the "TV Tropes has forums?" ignorance; in retrospect, it's blindingly obvious that it would have forums - they're a cheap and easy way of allowing users to communicate. And given the subject matter of TV Tropes as well as their extremely detailed Anime/Manga sections, it's blindingly obvious that they would have a great deal of active contributors who aren't creeped out by lolicon and general sexualization of fictional children. (almost went without the descriptive "fictional" there, but I'm not willing to put in the effort to see if they're accepting of things like the North American TV show "Toddlers and Tiara's" or pole dancing sets marketed to 8yr old girls and sold in toy stores, or other ways that we're starting to obviously sexualize real children. Also took out a reference to Japanese culture in there, since I see similar things over here in North America, hence the bolding of North America. I'm not willing to put the effort into finding out if they have the same opinions on North American examples as to the Japanese examples in most Anime/Manga.)

That being said, ew. Or maybe squick would be more appropriate?

Captcha: charm offensive. I'm touched that the forum thinks I have charm! *sniffle*

I never used the the TVT forums, so i dont know whats going on there, but i did take a look at the video and the thread you mentioned.

About the video:
It is nonsense to blame TVT for that. It sounds creepy because he talks creepy. You may also find the whole "innocent panties" trope creepy, but thats not the faulth of TVT. The panties were put in by the ones who made the film/comic/whatever. Otherwise, you are just blaming the messanger.

And after taking a look at the thread linked in the topic, I have to say that it lacks any credibility. It's just trying to make fun about some people at TVT but blames the whole site for some questionable opinons which may have been cherry picked. It is even stated at the beginning that they dont want any discussion, just laugh about other people so they can feel better about themselfs.

Personally, I think the recent paedo-hunt over at TVtropes is equal parts hilarious and horrifying. The post about the new policy was too many parts incoherent moral panic.

I don't go on the forums though, so I could be missing out on a lot of creepy shit.

Meh, I still like Tvtropes and don't mind that a bunch of stuff about porn and lolis are gone. (Never really liked lolis...At all. I AM a bit disappointed that I can't find anything on a certain porn game that actually has substance outside of sex, but I digress.) As I mostly use Tvtropes for one of two things whenever I go onto the site.

1) I look up stuff in the Fridge Logic/Horror/Brilliance, and HighOctaneNightmareFuel, and other creepy sections. I will almost always get sucked in and read for hours.

2) I look up WMGs on some of my favorite games that don't really explain much, like Yume Nikki/2kki/Nisshi and dotflow.

Edit: Like a lot of other people it seems, I don't go to the forum...But it can't possibly be any much worse than what you can see on every other site with a forum. Hell, I've seen some great forums over at Tvtropes before. So I'm gonna continue to like them.

Honestly, by the way people are acting about a few members of a rather large site, it seems like all this outcry against Tvtropes can be explained by a trope. It's popular so now it sucks.

I love the TvTropes site, but I've never visited their forums. Don't like SA at all though.
