Cole mercer in infamous. I mean, i have understanding for the fact that the developers were trying to give the impression that "he does what he has to do" and in the beginning a lot of "Red" decisions are a bit ambigous (taking food for your friends and safeguard against starvation viz a viz giving it all away) but when his powers start snowballing, and he has the power to power entire city parts by himself, he could have been a hell of a lot of more sympathetic och at least have some cause for being a dick, like trying to rule people.

Now he just gives of a kind of, Mwuahahaha i am evil.
You mean Cole McGrath. Cole Mercer is what happens when Alex Mercer from Prototype and Cole do the fusion dance from DBZ.

Kratos. I literally can't think of a dick move greater than destroying the entire world for the sake of nothing but your own personal revenge, especially when the cause of everything that has ever gone wrong in your life has been that you just can't seem to stop killing people.

LOL.

I dont play God of War but that just seems hilarious! Maybe I should whatch a lets play or something like that, I find the history Interesting.
Don't play God of War for history. They have the loosest grip on Greek mythology.

Renegade Shepard anyone? He kills his former friends, he's generally rude to anyone he meets, he kills without any form of mercy and just plain old insane.
Well yeah, but that's kind of your fault since you're the one playing him as a renegade. :p

OT: Honestly most game characters I'd consider horrible people in reality. I mean, nine times out of ten, what you're doing in games is murdering everything in sight. It's not something that endears you to a person.

The main character in Persona 3. Christ, what a dick.

I've written essays on him before but i'll just say that his constant dickery and lack of character development directly contradicts the entire theme of the game.

I have several other reasons but that's the main one.
You're mad that a blank slate doesn't show character development?

What?
This, and, well, I've never been able to see why people call him a dick. I mean, sure, he has lots of 'I don't care' lines but they're outnumbered by the meaningful ones. And people say he's antisocial- yet, in my game at least, he's currently holding up at least 3 succesful girlfriends, helping a monk get over his family issues, talking to a budding artist about his future, and being tutored by a devil buisnessman. Oh, and the online game thing. And to top it off, he's also getting some of the highest marks in his class.
Anyway, how can you call a guy who is officialy 'charismatic' (I dated Yukari! I can prove it!) a dick?
The game WAS someone remiss in forcing you to openly romance the female social links, causing you to cheat on them all with each other if you wanted total completion even though it's largely a gameplay mechanic which should be divorced from your roleplaying choices. Persona 4 fixed this by allowing you to choose between "romance" and "just friends" for each girl (as well as not being as strict with "cheating" penalties that just made things needlessly difficult).

But I can't see any way you could consider the main character (I use the name Minato Arisato which was his name in the manga adaptation) a dick. Choosing to act like a dick at pretty much ANY point could only ever have NEGATIVE consequences. If anything he's basically the fucking messiah,
quite LITERALLY in the ending.

He yeah kinda odd how that goes, many times "heroes" are dicks or bitches. Even if you play the game as the game leads you to. Lets take Oblivion and Skyrim, how many people and creatures has the hero killed..

So just because those we're "evil" it is okay. Odd mechanism! That would make the only difference between a hero and an evil bastard be if the target is considered "evil"

Hell look at normal human society even IF a choice has been made, a simple choice, some one will complain about that their side wasn't heard.

And in games...hey that guy/girl is the hero so.. no complaints okay!

Well I don't go so much by "evil" as I go by "They attacked me and refuse to stop until I impale them somehow"

If an enemy doesn't aggro I generally leave it alone. If that stupid thief insists on going 'your money or your life' well then he was the one who decided that would be a brilliant idea.

Reaver from Fable 2. He's supposed to be this magnificent bastard, but he ends up being just a bastard. He tries to have you killed, shoots an innocent and friendly man for no reason, claims credit for everything you've done, and the game has the nerve to big him up like he's the god damned hero of this story, and you're just a bystander or companion. I hate characters like him who are obviously the developers pet character.

I agree on these points, but this got me thinking. The mc of both games are told from the beginning that they gain power from making people like them, gain said power faster by saying what people want to hear, and posses the signature power of being able to change persona to whatever works best for the situation.

could mean nothing, just something to think about

I would so love a game if they combine Cole McGrath and Alex Mercer. But you're right. If they do combine those 2 in a game called ProtoFamous or InTotype, they will indeed become the biggest dick and possibly the one of the most powerful mutants as well as a colossal prick.
I'd still totally (radical :D) play that game, he can have mercers angsting combined with mcgraths obvious dickery, now the question is. Would Blood flying+ electrical flying equal good times, or exploding mcmercer....he could explode on people and the reform himself. Uh-oh, it feels like game executives are gonna mine this thread for credible game ideas :D

Do you mean Cole MacGrath, Mercer is the last name of the guy from Prototype. Maybe you were trying to be ironic, I can never tell via the medium of internet, but I thought I'd say something anyway. I can't think of anyone who hasn't been mentioned, but I guess the closest I've got is Bernard Marx from Brave New World. Yes I am aware that he is replaced roughly halfway through by John Savage, but the scenes that he appears in just paint him as a whiney annoying *****. As for game characters, I'd say the most irritating one that I have seen is the guy from Starhawks, he's just irritating, why doesn't someone just beat some sense into him, please.
Yeah, i was trying to be wry, as you say, the intranetz might be the future, but a conductive medium for irony, they are not.

Also, Dante, in the first game he was more along the lines of "I might be an obnoxious nighties remnant who kicks ass, but i'm part human and that makes me think we can prevail over demons!" in the later installments he's just mouthing of and killing people for vague reasons....is Dante a war criminal?

But but but...it's stephen fry? Now it is a bit odd, because i get the impression stephen fry wouldn't be averse to the taking the piss out of his character. He seems like a groovy cat with jazz like that. But then again, what do i know.

I don't even play Final Fantasy, but spoiling games regardless of how long they've been out is still a dick thing to do. I've had numerous games spoiled for me on this site because people weren't considerate enough to put in spoiler tags (which isn't even hard to do) because they felt the game had been out a certain amount of time, or was widely known, or some other bullshit excuse.
Fine, I fixed it. Maybe you should as well, since your quoting me makes the spoilers go further.

SPOILER ALERT! Darth Vader is Lukes father

Does Dante ever actually kill people or just demons? I can't think of any non-demons that he's killed.

You know what...excllent point, i think he only kills people who are INFUSED with demonic essence, i've never really thought about that before...huh....well playeed Capcom.

But some of those bosses really look human...you know...until they just go crazy and start sprouting bug wings, angelic forms, extra boobs or phallic guns all over the place.

Still hung up over Aeris' death? (Cloud is actually kind of a jerk as well.)

Well if the games been out for 3 years and you haven't played it, I'd assume you're not all that bothered about it and shouldn't be bothered by spoilers. If you were, you would have played it within the first year at least. People should probably put stuff in spoiler tags anyway, but if you haven't got round to playing it for years then I don't see what there is to get worked up about. That's just my opinion anyway. Now when I had a friend post on FB about a Doctor Who spoiler right after the damn episode finished that was just stupid. I had just come in from work and had to watch it on iPlayer later. Ugh... ;_;

Anyway, OT: Final Fantasy guys are usually bad for that. Maybe they're not necessarily dicks but they're usually cold, refuse any help, arrogant or miserable all the time.
I liked Zidane because he was a nice change from that.

I really need to play more games, I can't think of anyone else. :s
