Sophia would have commented about how the very idea that someone could get moved that far away from everyone else that they wouldn't be able to hear them anymore, but seemed a bit more gungho on Matilda's second idea. "Ya, I like that idea much better." Sophia answered back with a furious nod, water droplet splashing to the surface from her ears and hair. "Alright, sure Winona." Sophia answered as she got up from her seated position on the sand below the water and started paddling ineffectively again.

(She has never gotten beyond waist height water yet.)

"Wait a minute, I have to..." But Sara was already gone. Steve grinned and shook his head, before struggling to remove his boots and jeans as fast as he could. By the time he had stripped down to his boxers Sara had already reached the tideline. Stretching his shoulders once, briefly, he appreciated the enhanced physique that had allowed him to stand at the side of gods and heroes, before exploding into a run. Sand sprayed behind him as he flew across the beach and into the shallows before arrowing into the deeper water to pursue Sara.

Joanna watched the others splashing about in the sea, her expression morose. It looked strangely at odds given that she was still wearing nothing but a beach towel, but she did not see the contradiction of it.
"Today perhaps. Tomorrow, who knows? I cannot tell you truthfully whether I was the daughter of the king himself, or whether I was born to a peasant family. The curse has already taken that from me."

<color=green>"Let's start by learning how to tread water. It's sort of like flapping a set of wings to stay a float in the air. Watch my hands. Move your hands around like circles in front of you while moving your feet in circles. As if you were running in place."

Matilda followed Sophia away from the others, noting the sounds of Sara and Steve running into the water.

"Maybe it would be worth the effort... although I do not know how much I can still put into it, save for what happens from this point onwards. If life here proves to be anything like Drangleic, then it may not be a very pleasant read. And if it is not like Drangleic, as I suspect is the case, then it will be a very short one."

Code:
"Fine, fine. Guess I was just a little quick there. I'm sorry to assume that every laugh you people have at a non-human's expense means you're looking down on them."
Victoria apologized to Gwen.

Sophia would definitely hear Sara and Steve enter the water, turning around to see the grace and athleticism of both of them. "OH Come On!?" Sophia called out to them in jest, Matilda wouldn't be able to see it, but Winona would notice Sophia was grinning. Turning back to her own learning, she let out a short chuckle and a groan, then looked to Winona. "But I have to go deeper for that? Don't I?" Sophia answered back, never the less moving her hands back and forth mimicking Winona.

"Well...having bad memories is better than none at all?" Faro suggested, wondering if Joanna would agree. "And, if you want to make more good memories, maybe you should, I dunno, go swimming or do something you enjoy?" he added.

Sara dived into the water, politely away from Sophia's swimming lesson. She did indeed go far out into the water with Steve.

<color=green>"Well, treading water means that you're keeping yourself in an upright position while floating. Your body is already more boyant than water, so it floats naturally. The treading is what keeps you upright. We can try another exercise if you want to. If you hold onto my arms, you can practice the leg kicking of freestyle swimming. This doesn't require any depth for the water." She said.

As Steve and Sara went into the deeper parts of the water, they would see Joel swimming around, easily spotted by the sunlight reflecting off his metal arm each time it came our of the water.

"Maybe..." Joanna replied non-committally. At the suggestion that she go swimming she snorted, with what sounded like actual mirth.
"One thing that I do remember is that I swim like a fat man clad in full plate armour." She replied with an embarrassed smile. "I never had any talent for it. It amazes me that I was not a bloated corpse when Ser Joel pulled me from the sea." She looked at Faro then, as if just realising something.
"Why do you not join them? Can you not swim either?"

Steve surged through the water like a torpedo, and though his stroke was well controlled, the water around him churned with the force of his movement. On hearing Sophia's dismay at his and Sara's prowess, he drew in a deep breath and dived, before continuing his threshing front crawl a few feet below the surface. Only those swimming nearby or watching from a higher vantage point would easily observe his progress, but he concentrated on eating away at Sara's considerable head start.

"Oh, uh, vampires get hurt by the sun. These cloths are keeping me from getting burned." Faro explained.

Seras got bored and walked over to Faro and Joanna. "Hi, I don't think we've met. My name is Seras." she said to Joanna as she held out her hand.

"Uh, sure we could try that second a little bit maybe?" Sophia said, paddling slowly over to Winona, although still keeping her foot dragging across the ground below her. "So how does free style work? Is that what Matilda was talking about before with the kicking?" She asked. Luckily she could keep touching the bottom where she was, otherwise she would have more than likely grabbed onto one of Winona's arms for the added security.

[color=006d5b]"Freestyle is a competition type, where you can swim in whatever style you like."[/color] Matilda replied.

<color=green>"Grab on to both my arms and lay flat on the water. You'll also need to practice breathing while swimming. Your face will face the water. Paddle with your legs, and every seven seconds breath in and out. Rotate your head to take a breath."

"Oh?" Now Faro's own curse seemed to take on a new aspect of cruelty. "I am sorry. It must be hard to suffer at the touch of something so beneficent. I have always taken comfort from its light." She drew her knees up to her chest and wound her arms around them, looking wistfully down at the sand. "Sometimes, when my flesh is still pink and vital, when my soul waxes stronger through my victories, I like to think that I can still feel its warmth." She looked up as Seras's shadow fell across her face.

"Oh. Hello, Seras. I am Joanna." Shifting her weight slightly, she seemed to float to her feet with remarkable grace at odds with her glum mood, and shook Seras's hand.

"Sorry if I disturbed you. I just wanted to meet you, since I guess you're going to be traveling with us?" Seras said to Joanna.

"There's styles!?" Sophia asked, not expecting that kind of response. "I don't care about competition stuff, I just don't wanna drown!" She added wearily, slowly moving over to grab Winona.

Once Sophia was close enough to Winona, she grabbed onto one of her hands, holding onto it a bit tighter than she probably should have. "I... don't know if I want to put my face in the water yet really. But, let's see." Sophia started to kick her legs, moving more like she was trying to stomp on something rather than the fluddering that she should have been doing. "I don't think this running thing is working Winona."
