She chuckled.
<color=brown>"I suppose that's true. Our information libraries are quite extensive." Sara materialized Gluon and it displayed a search engine for its history archives as a hologram. <color=brown>"Let's see... Lead Zeppelin. Oh! It's Led Zeppelin, spelled l-e-d. Apparently there's a rock band by that title."

Steve noticed the signs in Seras's demeanour, and wondered if this was just more nervousness, or if Seras was a really terrible liar.
You'd think I'd be better at spotting a lie, working with Fury and Natascha for so long.

"Police officer, huh? That's a fantastic position. I've met some real heroes wearing that uniform. What made you leave it?" He glanced at Sara.

"Oh, really? That's embarrassing. I'll have to check them out. Don't suppose you know if they're any good?"

Seras had really hoped Steve wouldn't ask that exact question, as well as a few others. "I was wounded in the line of duty." she said, saying something that was technically true. "Even after I recovered, I couldn't go back, so I had to find other work and Hellsing seemed like the...best option." she finished.

 

[Random berk]

"Things went wrong then? I hope no one else was hurt. " Steve remarked, concerned at what the answer would be, but knowing that if Seras found it this hard to reveal relatively simple information, if she'd lost someone in action then she'd want to talk about it even less, at least on a first meeting. "So... private security. What kind of clients were you running security for?" He held up his hands hurriedly, palms outwards. "It's ok if it was confidential or sensitive information. I know how fond everyone is of labelling things 'state secret' or the like these days."

<color=brown>"I've only just heard of them to be quite honest. The database we have has links to some of their songs. Here's a song from one of their later albums, from the latter half of the 20th century."

The sword produced sound from a vibrating speaker that formed in the handle. It was kept at low volume to continue the conversation.

"I was lucky to get out alive. [sub]My partners weren't as lucky.[/sub]" Seras said as she started to rub her arms. "We, uh, worked for the crown. The queen of England I mean." she said, trying to shake off bad memories.

[color=006d5b]"I'll give you a pass on not knowing who Led Zeppelin are, given you were frozen for seventy years. And yes, they're good. Some people say they're one of the most influential rock bands ever."[/color] Matilda said, not looking over towards Steve and the others. In the interest of courtesy, she decided against revealing Seras' slight lack of honesty.

Steve listened to the sound system for a few minutes.
"Wow. How did music go from that to the stuff they play on the radio these days?" He asked, shaking his head in disappointment. When Seras continued her story, he grimaced in sympathy.

"I'm sorry Seras. I can honestly say I know the feeling. Losing a man is always hard, whatever the circumstances." As she continued he crossed his arms, looking intrigued.
"Private security working for the government? That sounds more and more like the way things are run these days. Heck, it sounds a lot like SHIELD, the people I worked with recently." He grinned wryly. "Although I'd almost be willing to bet that you guys never had anything as bizarre as the Avengers initiative going on."

 

[Slenn]

<color=brown>"I have no idea. But I can tell you that rock still exists in my time."

She dematerialized Gluon.

<color=brown>"This does sound like a dangerous business you were in, Seras. But what did this private organization do that was special, if you don't mind my prying?"

"...What are these avengers?" Seras asked as she tried to steer the conversion away from her past.

"We were an anti-terrorism organization. Not that special." she said to Sara.

 

[Random berk]

"That was the team that SHIELD put me in charge of. Put it like this; one of the other members of the team was Thor Odinsson, the Norse God of thunder."

"Oh, that does sound pretty impressive." Seras said. She began wondering if it was crazier to work with Vlad the Impalor or an actual god.

 

[Random berk]

"Mmm. And he wasn't even the most impressive of us." Steve wondered how he could convey his impressions of his first sight of the Hulk in battle, then decided not to attempt it. He didn't think words would do justice on that one.

 

[Slenn]

<color=brown>"You've mentioned this Thor character before. So he's the truth behind the myth? Are there other Nordic mythological characters in your universe?"

"Wait...what were you fighting that needed a god? More Nazis?" Seras asked.

 

[Random berk]

"Well, we fought his brother. Loki, the trickster." Steve replied to both women. "Loki had an army of creatures that staged an airborne invasion from some sort of extradimensional portal over Manhattan. They were after something called the Tesseract, an extremely powerful energy device of the Asgardians, Thor's people. As it happens, that was the same device that HYDRA -that special weapons division of Hitler's that I mentioned- discovered and used to develop their technology. Beyond that, I can only assume that the rest of the Norse pantheon are real too."

"Wow..." Seras said as she thought her life had actually been trumped in strangeness.

 

[Slenn]

<color=brown>"That does seem interesting. Although, I personally don't believe a god would go out of its way to intervene with anyone. From your description it sounds more like demi-god."

 

[Random berk]

Steve chuckled at this reaction.
"Hey, no need to feel left out. You're standing next to a time travelling, space-faring super powered scientist in a maid's outfit. We've got another space traveller in armour that looks suspiciously like something that another Avenger designed, a girl who seems to be from the Middle Ages who eats souls, and if what I heard inside the ship is correct, a vampire. I think even if you weren't getting your fair share of strangeness before, then you've got it now."

Sierras seemed to grow uncomfortable at the mention if vampires.
