During her note writing, she decided to make a forward. Two thoughts had surfaced in her head. One was that she didn't know if and when her sisters would be able to get her back, and she needed to get cash to survive in the world. The other was that she didn't entirely like the idea of delivering the foundations of steam technology all in one package to a new society. It had been plaguing her ever since she was commissioned to do this assignment. The implications of influencing a society like this were extraordinary. Thoughts about how other revolutionary new ideas came about and changed her world stirred in her angrily; The use of fire, then metallurgy, gunpowder, steam, electricity, atomic energy, quantum mechanics, gravitational warping, and the unified field theory all seemed to have yin-yang qualities to them. In her forward, she felt she needed to address something.
Dear Engineers, Merchants, and soon to be Scientists
I present this knowledge to you from another world. New ideas have always been spreading from culture to culture on my world from outsiders. And that's how I'm presenting this to you. On my world there have been many advancements in technology. So much so, that I can say with confidence that for every advancement there is always an associated risk that no one can foresee happening in the future. But with it there's always been a new power to do good and evil. On my world, there is a concept called 'Yin-Yang', which simply is about the dichotomy and dependency of positive and negative values; You cannot have one without the other. Take it with great care.
The data I'm showing to you also employs a methodology that I'm not sure is in your world. It's called the scientific method. On my world it has done us a great good. It's used to shatter ignorance as long as one withdraws their beliefs to realize the truth. It's done as follows:
-Observe something happen, a phenomena that's unknown.
-Create a hypothesis as to why it might be happening.
-Construct and execute a repeatable test for the hypothesis. This test must be repeatable under the same conditions to produce the same results.
-Gather the data and compare it to the hypothesis.
-Question whether or not the hypothesis is correct. If it wasn't, which is most likely the case, then revise the test. Repeat the process until all possibilities have been thoroughly explored. Science is a self-correcting and forgiving process.
-What comes out of all this is pure, hard evidence of what happens in the world. It is objectively the truth. Present these results so that others might benefit.
Your world might behave differently than my world. That's why I encourage people to test these ideas before any applications should be tried.
Good Luck.
Emily Mason.
