Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:13

Following Timea, Anik clicked as Timea suggested. She did it a few times, moving her head first in one, then in the other direction. Finally, she answered: "No. It is too far away, and the snow does not make it easier, it does not really reflect sound. Well, at least I now know that it is relatively small. Right?"

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:14

"Well, it's smaller than you, but not by all that much", Timea reported, looking the wolverine over, being 90cm from head to hip, and 30 from foot to shoulder. "But, it's also rather strong-looking, like a miniature bear, but with more pronounced claws." Timea studied the wolverine moving about for a moment, closer anilising its built and weapons, then came to a conclusion. "Going after it would most probably be too ambitious. I advice against it."

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:14

"A bear?" Anik asked, slightly confused. She shook herself, and said: "With big claws ... I really don't think I would be able to make them out before I seriously could get hurt. So ... thanks for helping me see, I guess. Let us go look for another animal."

Walking further, away from the wolverine, Anik tried to find a heart that was smaller than the wolverine, but bigger than the rodents, listening to more sounds as well.
"I never heard of such a small bear, though. Do you know what that was?" she said to Timea while walking.

Femesh Daer - Day 10 - 18:15
After a few cycles of the hatches on the water line opening, letting water into the ship, and closing followed by steam coming out of the smokestack the small boat that Yeager had built left the port and headed to the ship. The boat was open, with the driver, a Red Eye, clearly visible. Nothing was particularly noteworthy about the boat, except for the rear end of it, which had a large box attached that had a slight blue glow to it. There were no propellers, oars, sails, etc on the boat.

The boat headed to the large ship, where the Red Eye hooked it to some hooks that were next to a ladder leading to the deck, climbed up to the deck and headed inside, and then came back out carrying a sack a short time later. He then started to make his way back to the factory.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:14

After Anik walked off, Timea kept her eyes on the wolverine for a bit longer, then followed after her.

"I don't. All the animals native to this area, I either have never seen before, or are a variation on animals I do know, but with their adaptation to deal with these conditions meaning I can't rely on what I know all too much", she explained. "With that said, that animal wasn't related to the bear group; neither its build, nor scent matches. It did look like one other creature I've seen, but don't know the name of that one."

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:14

"Well, I know some of these animals, but not all of them, seemingly. This still is a far colder area than where I lived before." Anik said. "So ... we pretty much know the same about these. Ah well, that's fine.

Also, I should learn to be able to smell as good as you."

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:34

After some 20 minutes of walking, Anik not finding anything that seemed worthwhile, her patience running low and her stomach rumbling, she sensed another big heart, still a distance away. Carefully approaching, she asked Timea: "There is another something here. Can you see it? Could we take that?"

"Alright, guess I'll get some of that then. Thank you." Cybil left the store and headed to the one that actually had leather armor. "Hello, I was wondering if I might buy a set of armor here?" She greeted the other smith.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:14

"Having a sense of smell as sharp as mine isn't something you can learn, I'm afraid. It's beyond human capability. But, learning to better differentiate the things you can smell, that should certainly be possible.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:34

Walking a little behind Anik, Timea picked up on a new scent, a little time after Anik picked up on the sizeable heart. Looking around after Anik announced it, Timea spotted a caribou, some 180 metres away. It was ploughing its snout through the snow, and eating the grasses it exposed in doing so.

"I see it, yes", she answered, speaking in a somewhat lowered voice. "I don't know what it is, exactly, but recognise its kind. It'll be skittish, and quick on its feet. It's unlikely you'll catch it on your own, so I'll help. Together, we can bring it down." Softly laying down the bear, Timea lowered herself closer to the ground, and began moving forward. "Let's get a little closer. Stay low, and move slowly."

Fortunately for Anik, the area was a clearing, without too many trees to bump in to.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:34

"Alright." Anik said shortly, lowering herself and sneaking next to Timea, first clicking, then thinking better of it and just holding the cane in a way before her so she would hit something with it before hitting it herself, but not swinging it from side to side.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:34

Moving, Timea would stop and instruct Anik to do the same, every time the caribou looked up from its grazing. When some 70 metres, Timea stopped again, and crouched down, getting on one knee, and leaning forward.

"Okay, this is probably the closest we'll get without him noticing", she said, now speaking in a low whisper. "Stay here, for now, while I move position, so I can flank him. Once I give the word, run at it as fast as you can. Ideally, you should grab him around the neck, and pull him down. It would be best to get on the side of his back when you do, so he can't kick you." After giving the instruction, Timea asked, "Is that all clear?"

Vala - Day 9 - 06:34

The tanner looked up at Cybil, and asked, "How much armour will you need?"
Robin would find only a couple of books on those subjects.

Whispering back, Anik responded: "Alright. I will leave my stuff here for now. And ... I will click when running, I guess that I can do, right? ... We have clear vision to him as well, right? I don't want to run into something.

I'll try to pull him down."
Not knowing the exact figure of the animal, she hoped she would be able to identify the neck as fast as possible, regardless, when she was near enough to find it with echolocation. Aside from that, she remembered the non-lethal techniques, hoping it might help her in this case as well.

"All clear." she added, and put her bag down soundlessly and carefully, the cane right next to it, then waited for Timea to move out.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:42

"You can do that, yes. This may not be the optimal area to use your clicks, but it's a relatively open area, so there is not much chance of you tripping", Timea replied, answering both Anik's questions. "All right, let's get started."

Shifting into her bobcat form - but larger to facilitate the blanket staying covered, and with a white coat, for camouflage - Timea began circling around to the other side of the caribou, taking some twelve minutes to do so. During this time, her stomach growled a couple of times, which made the caribou look up, forcing Timea to stop, and lay prone.

When she was in position, Timea waited a moment, then began running towards the caribou. Alerted, the caribou made a sharp turn, and began running in the other direction, heading towards Anik. As Timea predicted, it moved very fast.

"Now!" Timea exclaimed shortly after breaking into a run.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:42

Hearing Timea call out, Anik ran towards the caribou quite fast, because of the short distance relying on identifying its size by its footsteps. When she felt the heart really close, she slowed down slightly and clicked to get a rough picture of the caribou.

Then she jumped and and tried to ram it at the same time. As the caribou moved faster, it was more the case of it ramming her, the impact hurting her shoulder and letting her teeth snap together. Still she found the neck of the animal after a quick leap, and tried to clasp it with all her strength.

The impact made the caribou dizzy, but it did not fall, and as Anik tried to grip the neck, it tried to break free. Even though Anik did get on the side of the back, her position was slightly off, and she found herself not able to bring the caribou down for now. Her feet searching for a place to stand firmly on the ground, she was instead being dragged along by the caribou, which would not slow down. Quite unsure if she would be able to hold the neck long enough to tire the caribou out, or if her hurting shoulder would give out before that, Anik called for help.

Vala, day 9, 6:34
Robin gathered all he could, found an empty spot, and threw himself into the books. He went over each one multiple times and at low speed, making sure he gathered absolutely everything. Nothing would distract him during this sort of someone actually picking him up.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:42

Seeing the caribou ram Anik, Timea bared her teeth, worried for Anik's safety. Seeing Anik Managing to hold on to the caribou's neck, Timea was glad this happened, as opposed to her being tossed over the antlers, or trampled over. Timea continued running after the caribou, but was quickly falling behind, it quite a bit faster than her, not helped by her losing speed to sinking into the ground some, with every pace.

"Hold on to the neck as tightly as you can! Strangle him!" she called out as she ran.

Holding on to the caribou, Anik was in for a bumpy ride, as it ran erratically, and in bounds. Occasionally, it also jerked its head from side to side, to try and shake Anik off.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 18:42

As Timea was calling, Anik desperately tried to just hold on to the neck of the caribou. Hearing something with strangling, she tried to change her position, to clench the neck with the arm whose shoulder was not hurt. Not really managing to do so, Anik thought about letting go. That was when the caribou changed direction and jerked its head, which did not go in its favour. As Anik was thrown from one side to the other and back again, it led to her being able to grip the neck much tighter with the one arm. Pressuring the trachea, the caribou slowly lost speed, but was still able to jerk its head and walk further.

Anik had only one thought in mind, holding on to the neck, as the adrenaline in her body prevented her from fainting due to all the bruises she got over the other side of her body.
