"Hmm .. alright. Probably will get the answer "avoid the red berries", though. Or something like that." Anik said, not feeling like going back into the city. "Anyways, if I feel stomach cramps ... stick a finger in my throat and try to throw up?"

Not wanting to make the same mistake again, Anik waited a little while longer for the meat to finish, even though she did think it already smelled similar to what her own had smelled like.

Vala - Day 10
You crash to the ground, gasping as your ribcage takes yet another beating. However, you already feel danger approaching, and you have no time to waste. You roll sideways, towards the side of the door in order to break line of sight with the sorcerer. At the same time, you draw your blaster and fire a couple wild shots against Cybil to keep her at bay.

"A good guess, and a viable solution. But not the best. If you force yourself to vomit like that, some of your stomach acids might come up along with it, which could damage your throat. You'll also lose fluids, which isn't that much of an issue if you have ready access to water, but otherwise, will get you from one undesirable situation, in to the next", Timea explained. "What would be a more safe solution, is taking a piece of wood that's been burned black, through and through, and grind it into a powder. Then swallowing this. Hopefully, the powder will neutralise the poison in your stomach.

Do note, that it has no effect if your body has already begun absorbing the poison. Nor should you ingest a lot of this powder at once, or it could clog up your digestive track."

"Shara, over here, now!" Quan Chi commanded as he stepped through the portal but left it open behind him.

The sorcerer lost sight of Shara, however Quan Chi slowly backed into view. The sorcerer quickly raised his hands and pointed at Quan Chi, sending out a bolt of lightning that, if it struck true, would cause Quan Chi's muscles to tense up.

Mathan Daer Area - Day 11 - 11:58

"Swallowing ... hot wood? That sounds odd." Anik stated, not knowing this trick, and not completely understanding what a completely black wood would be, as it meant nothing to her. "And it does sound like ... wouldn't making this burnt wood take too long, anyways? In that time, wouldn't the poison already be absorbed?
... I think I would rather go with throwing up."

Thinking that maybe Timeas meal was starting to get black, Anik sniffed again, but could not tell for sure. Still she said: "... is you meat done, now?"

Vala - Day 10 - 17:22

Cybil threw herself to the ground to avoid Shara's shots. While still laying prone, another grey light flashed in her left hand, leaving her holding a gun-like object, styled in the same fashion with yellow and grey as her baton. She pulled the trigger, causing the device to fire a yellow ray at Shara that would have the same effect as Cybil's baton, and would make her limbs go numb and unresponsive if she were hit.

Vala - Day 10
The beam hits you, and you can just only fire of a single blast against your prone opponent before your limbs numb. This is both a blessing and a curse, as you were laying on your left side and thus putting painful pressure on your wound there. The wound does not hurt as much, but moving becomes even more difficult. You try to get up, but your knees give out as you collapse - defeated by the sheer volume of injures sustained, blood lost and the crippling effect of Cybil's beam.

Quan was hit by the stiffening beam, falling through the portal like a statue. It closed behind him as he arrived face down in the snow at his camp, and he mused he should REALLY get Shara a leash or tracker or something.

Robin was, presumably, still KO'd.

Now there was no danger of Robin or Cybil being used as human shields, a pair of guards entered the room, pointing their swords down at Shara. Ana's brother stood over her, his eyes glowing brightly as red flames manifested around his hands. "Surrender or I'll incinerate your head before you even think about attacking anyone else." he ordered.

You chuckle, then groan at the pain. Looking up at the sorcerer above you, you say; [color=0066cc]"My orders are to attack the woman over there. I can't disobey orders. But I can't really fight, so I'd suggest just disarming me."[/color]

Cybil's dismissed her weapons back to where they came, then slammed her fist against the ground. Groaning to herself, she stood back up. She decided to let the guards handle Shara, now that they seemed to have the situation well in hand, and went to go check on Robin.

Robin was still asleep, but he seemed alive and unharmed, breathing steadily and tome open at his side.

"Well, it being hot isn't the point, it just needs to be thoroughly burned. And taking the time to find a piece of wood, and going through the process of burning it and turning it into a powder, then it may be too late by the time you ingest it. But carrying a piece around could help", Timea explained.

"But the meat. The outside is ready, you got this right. But, is the inside?" With this said, Timea bisected the heart, and held it out to Anik. "Have a smell."

Anik might smell that the chambers of the heart didn't match the exterior. The heat had dried out the blood still inside, but it didn't have the same toasty scent.

 

[Silence]

Mathan Daer Area - Day 11 - 11:59

"Alright, that does make sense." Anik said.

She smelled the heart, and, as Timea kind of hinted at it, expected that it was not ready. This way, she soon picked up the different scent of the inside. "It does not seem ready yet." she frowned. "I probably need to cut everything in two pieces to find out if it is ready, don't I? I can't smell the inside without it."

"That will probably be necessary, yes. It might be a bit cumbersome to do so, but it's better than ending up becoming ill because you ate raw meat. At least, muscle tissue will be easier to judge if they're cooked, however. Provided the pieces aren't too large."

Holding the heart over the fire again, Timea pulled other pieces of meat closer, too, to begin and roast them, as well. "But that is about enough lessons for now. I'll let you smell what it's supposed to smell like when properly cooked, and I think it would be good to stop, there."

"Hmm. I guess I can live with that." Anik stated. "Well, I hope I can remember. It should not be too difficult." she added, waiting for Timea to finish roasting.

She finished eating her own meal while doing so, then washed it down with some water.

Mathan Daer Area - Day 11 - 12:01​

Shortly after putting the heart back over the fire, Timea looked at it, finding it had roasted enough. She leaned forward, closer to Anik, and held out the heart out again. "This is it." Timea allowed Anik as much time as she needed to smell the scent, then leaned back again, and began eating.

"Hmm. Now you have a big meal on your hands, it couldn't hurt to eat a bit more than you're used to, to build up some fat", Timea suggested, after swallowing a bite. "Do you know why?"

Mathan Daer Area - Day 11 - 12:01

Anik took about 45 seconds to smell the meat, hoping she might remember it.

She was surprised Timea suggested that she eat more, already feeling quite satisfied. "Even more? ... So I can deal with the cold, better? I mean, I kind of eat more already, because of the energy the walking takes. But you mean I should eat even more? ... Isn't that counterproductive to my agility? Although, admittedly, I can't do much with it anyways if I always have to wear this coat ..."

"Well, it would if you gorged the food so much, you could feel it sloshing around in your gut with every step - don't do that~", Timea answered, letting out a small laugh. "But, no. It's not against the cold. Human fat isn't the same as that of seals, so no matter how much you'd get, it wouldn't help keeping you warm.

No, having fat has to do with food. Like I said, we've been having remarkable luck thus far, but it's not that unusual to catch nothing for a day, or more. And when you don't eat for a while, your body starts to break down the fat to keep you going. With the amount you have, now, I expect that will last you... four days, probably.

So, in short, having a little more fat on you will help you keep you alive in times of food shortages."
