Mountain Cave - Day 12 - 13:45

"For the most part, your methods are not that unusual. Not what I would expect, given your appearance, but still a fairly standard way. So, I cannot find any issues with how you hunt. The amount that you hunt... that could be a problem, in the long run, if there were more beings like you around."

Mt. Faotar, Caverns - Day 12 - 13:46

"Oh, I don't think you should be all too worried about this", Timea responded, letting out a small laugh with a bitter undertone to it, thereafter. "And on my own, I do take care to avoid over-predation. I don't want to cause the extinction of anything.

But I wonder, what did you expect I would do to catch prey?"
she then asked, mostly to try and gleam how much of her abilities Faotar had seen.

Southbound Road - Day 12

"Of course, not being in this situation would be optimal~", Timea said, smiling as Anik laughed. "As for why it works... well, think how it would look, if the roles were reversed. You'd be approaching something smaller than you, to find out they're would not only refuse running away, but actually show aggression back. So this smaller creature is probably more dangerous than they look look. With this in mind, it might not be a good idea, then, to pick a fight. You could get hurt!

Of course, no two creatures react the same way, and the situation could change things further. So you should always be prepared to defend yourself. But that's a lesson for another time."

Southbound Road - Day 12

"Alright." Anik said. "Well - it does make sense in some way. I mean, I'm not judging people by their size anyways, but for others ... heh.

I should do this with humans also. It might make for a funny situation."
She laughed again. "Well, we have time. I am always ready to defend myself. But what more do you mean by that? Unless you want to talk about something else ... you could continue the lesson."

"Based on the look of you, I would expect spears or bows to be involved." Faotar replied.

Mt. Faotar, Caverns - Day 12 - 13:46

"Well, I believe that everything should have a fair chance to escape with their lives intact, and that using weapons to tackle creatures that don't isn't giving that. This especially applying to ranged weapons. In my eyes, something that cannot be taken down with whatever natural weapons one might have, should be considered outside the hunter's capabilities, and left alone", Timea explained. "The only time I would consider this fair, is if a prey has already been tackled, and has no further chance of escape. Then, it would be giving it a merciful death."

[hr]
Southbound Road - Day 12

At Anik's comment, Timea imagined Anik randomly walking up to a person and screaming at them. At this mental image, Timea first snickered, then burst into laughter, as well.

Once Anik spoke again, and once her laughter died down, Timea responded. "Well, for one, a bear could be out hunting. This would mostly be the larger bears, as the smaller ones aren't really built to take down prey as large as a human. But even them, desperation could drive them to it. Also, a mother with children will be more aggressive, since they have their children's safety in mind, too. In the latter case, being too aggressive in turn could cause that to attack, instead of just give warning signs. So here, you should show just enough aggression to show you aren't meek, but otherwise back away at a steady pace. And, in this case, once you're a sufficient distance away, it's okay to start running, since the mother wouldn't leave her child to chase after something else."

"So ... if I meet a bear who is out hunting, I am basically screwed?" Anik asked, wondering. "Have to fight it then, I guess. But about a mother with children, I do understand. I would probably not be aggressive then, anyways, just back away, while showing that I am not afraid to fight, if it would be necessary.

If I don't hear her running after me, I can run as well. Alright. Or ... I think I would rather keep walking away, then. I hope this would be enough. Running is dangerous."

Mountain Cave - Day 12 - 13:46

"You say this, but you swoop in from above and carry your prey off, giving them little warning and no way to get free without plummeting to the ground. Is this giving them a chance to escape? Meanwhile, a human approaching his prey with a bow and arrows can accidentally alert the beast to his presence. If the prey begins running before the human is prepared to shoot, then they have a way to escape." Faotar responded, with a tone of voice that was inquisitive rather than accusatory.

Mt. Faotar, Caverns - Day 12 - 13:48

"I would say my methods are fair, yes. I might approach from the skies, but I am a sky-borne hunter, by nature", Timea rebutted, also noting her shapeshifting had been noticed. "I also haven't flown any quicker than a land-bound hunter could run. And with the skies providing no cover, can't rely on stealth as a land-bound hunter would.

Furthermore, an arrow might be shot from a distance, before a prey might realise they're being approached, and from behind cover. A prey then escaping would be more poor luck on the archer's part, rather than the prey proving superior."

Southbound Road - Day 12

"You would have to fight, if you encounter a bear out hunting, yes", Timea confirmed. "Striking from their behind flanks is a good plan, but you'll find they can move quick, for their size. A hard blow, right on the nose, is also effective, if a lot more risky."

"Well, I know I have to use my swords, if this would happen. As much as you would dislike it. But it would be pretty much the only chance I would have for survival, to level the playingfield somewhat.

I ... at least I know what a bear does. Roughly how it is shaped. And how it sounds. So, I would be able to listen to its movements, trying to flank it this way. On the nose, I think I rather not risk, unless I am cornered and have no choice."
Anik said.

"I suppose so", Timea said, indeed, not liking it, but also not going to argue against it. "But still, like with a human, you should try and prevent grievous injury, if it can be helped. Small injuries could force a creature to retreat. But if not, then that's that."

"Yes, I understand." Anik said, kind of regretting that she had never learned this style of combat, but still thinking she could not do too much to a bear anyways. "I still need to learn more of this non-lethal fighting. Especially against humans. I ... don't think I am very good at it."

"I couldn't give you much help in that field, I'm afraid", Timea responded, letting out a small chuckle. "As far as unarmed fighting goes, my way of doing it isn't very... refined. And not something that would benefit you, to begin with. I do doubt it would be reliable, for anyone that isn't as tough as I am.

But, where did you learn the techniques to do already know?"

"Yes ..." Anik said, and chuckled a little bit as well. "Your methods aren't really something I could try.

Anyways, the better techniques I learned from Cybil. In Calibeth City."
Anik shuddered shortly, thinking back on how weird the situation had been for her. "And the other ... techniques, I learned after I ... met someone. At least most of them. I had already ... ah, nevermind that. The important ones I learned from Cybil, that's it. And dodging I have taught myself."

"Do you think that the animals you hunt expect to be carried off by a creature attacking from the sky? If not, then attacking from above provides just as much of an advantage as stealth, does it not?" Faotar asked.

Mt. Faotar, Caverns - Day 12 - 13:49

At Faotar's question, Timea let out a "hmm", giving it some thought while glancing down. After, she looked back up and answered. "It would. So then, in the future, I should issue a warning sign, to alert the prey. This might make them to run, and even if not, others in herds would still learn. Later generations would then come to fear the skies, and ensure a level playing field." She let out a second, softer "hmm", then said, "yes, this should be good."

Southbound Road - Day 12

Timea noted Anik sounding more troubled as she mentioned the techniques not learned from Cybil, but not wanting to bring this up, didn't say anything about it, further. "Well, we're looking for her, to start with. So if we find her, you might learn some more techniques from her."

"Hmm ... maybe. She did teach me a whole day, though. Also, she has some advantages I have not. I think just training the techniques I know would benefit me more, right now." Anik said.

Liking the idea, herself, and otherwise not caring on Faotar's opinion on the subject too much, Timea didn't speak on the subject further, after he replied.

"Well, I have one last question. Do you know if there is anything like me, on this world?"

Southbound Road - Day 12

"Well, we're not particularly in a hurry, are we. We can spare a day~" Timea said cheerily, then snapped her fingers, and gave Anik a light poke against the shoulder.

Meltha Area - Day 12 - 22:30

Eight hours after setting out, the party reached drew close to Meltha, much to Timea's relief, her stomach rumbling several times on the way, while she didn't want to leave her companions unattended out in the middle of nowhere.

"We're here. Finally", she announced. "Well, if you two go find a place to set up camp, I'll be going out to hunt."
