Vala Area - Day 14 - 10:20

Looking to Anik as she stood and approached, Timea used her free hand to move the blanket further away. When Anik nuzzled her neck, Timea smiled, and rubbed the side of her head against Anik's. When Anik pulled back, Timea took a small bite from her meat, then answered, but had to think for a moment to come up with a question she didn't expect would have a depressing answer.

"Hmm. There is something, yes. Before, you mentioned you had people who you cared about? Who were they?"

"I did ..." Anik said, frowning for a second, but then talking in a neutral tone of voice again. "Let me think for a second."

With that, she stepped back to her own fire, to keep roasting the hare. After a few moments, she said:
"Well, I did kind of care about the people I taught some climbing, and with whom I played for some time. It was not long enough so that I could call them friends, though.

Later, I cared about the people who were ... my servants. I never forced them to do something ... not that I even really could ... but I also was at least concerned about them, in some way. There was never a real relationship, though, and the people who I call my servants did answer to the one above me more then they had to answer to me, anyways."

She was quiet for a moment, then added: "So ... that's it. Nothing particularily interesting."

Timea said nothing as Anik took some time to think, waiting, while continuing her meal. Once Anik spoke, she listened to her retelling, taking smaller bites while doing so. She wondered why Anik paused before mentioning the servants, but didn't think too much on it.

"Hmm. Do you think they miss you, now? The servants?" she asked, after swallowing.

"No, I don't think so." Anik answered. "They were, after all, just my servants. It was their assignment. They probably just switched over to someone else.

Maybe if they got a worse master, they miss me now. But not me personally, just the work they had to do for me. And even then ... I don't think most of them enjoyed it too much."

She took the hare off the fire, smelling it, unsure if one part was burnt and one part was still raw. So she cut the legs off, smelled them, then bit into them, judging that a little bit of it was burnt, but most of it was just right. Gnawing on the legs, she put the rest of the hare back on the fire for some time.

"That largely what I expected", Timea commented. She was quiet for a brief moment, taking a bite, then spoke again. "Hmm. There was another thing I have wondered. You've not met unicorns, and other "unusual" creatures, but what kinds of different creatures have you heard about? Are there many stories?"

Vala - Day 11
The air is driven out of your lungs as Cybil tackles into you - but she is too late. Instead of landing on the hard floor, cold snow meets you. And now I've got to kill a friend.

You bring your elbow back, trying to smash it into Cybil's chest. She's got you at a disadvantage, but you'll fight to the death. You've got no other option.

Vala - Day 11 - 25:24

Speedy rushed through the portal after Shara. He looked around, thinking about how he could help, but not having any good ideas.

Anik chewed on some of the rabbit leg, swallowed, then answered Timea: "There are lots and lots of stories. I only know the ones I have been told, which is not many. But I heard some songs as well, and they had to be based on other stories.
I have heard about fairies, and dragons, giants, and mermaids, vampires and werewolves. These are all that I can think of right now. I don't know if they exist, or if all the stories were made up. Most of them were about a human meeting and defeating them, so I guess they were at least in most parts fiction."

Cybil's speed, precognition, and armor allowed her to go unharmed by Shara's retaliatory attack. She rolled off Shara and quickly stood back up, cursing quietly under her breath as she hit snow. Holding her baton in front of her defensively, she quickly glanced around to see if Quan Chi's portal was still open.

Vala - Day 11
You use the breathing space, however minor, to scramble away from Cybil and you break into a run towards the pit where you were resurrected. More specifically, you're running towards the many corpses nearby. Your own sword has been buried in the snow long ago, but the fresh bodies still have some of their weapons visible. You feel anger welling up at the idea that more people have been forced into Quan Chi's service, and also despair that the only outlet for that anger will be to attack Cybil. And Speedy, too, if I'm not mistaken. Poor little bugger, but I can't even hit him.

"Hmm. I know what dragons are, Timea began, saying it the way she did to throw off potential on-lookers. and I can guess what giants would be. But the others, I haven't heard of before. What ever are they?"

Vala Area - Day 14 - 10:22

"Fairies are apparently especially beautiful people who can make themselves invisible, and do other kinds of magic. In some stories they also have wings. Apart from that, they look human. It is said that they bring luck." Anik explained, taking some time between sentences to remember correctly. "Mermaids are women who live in the sea - although there are males also, they just aren't called 'maids'" she added, chuckling, "Their upper parts are like humans, but instead of legs, they have a fish-tail. They are also supposed to look beautiful. Or just not supposed to wear any clothes. Whatever it is." she chuckled again.

"Vampires and werewolves are quite different, so ... do you want to know more about fairies or mermaids before I continue?"

"Hmm. Now that you've described them, I have heard of mermaids. I've heard them called--" Timea began, then said the name in Assyrian, and archaic Greek. "... I don't think I've ever heard of males likes this, however. This did always seem strange to me."

She was quiet for a moment to take the last bite from the piece of meat she had in her hand, then took an other one, and held the side that had been facing away from the fire closer to it. "Either way, I have on question, yes. About these fairies; How ever would they induce good luck? And why?"

Taking the rest of the rabbit off the fire, Anik smelled it and frowned a bit, thinking another part was slightly burnt. As she felt around it and did not really feel something reduced to coal however, she shrugged, and put the thing to the other rabbit parts, so she could eat all of it.

"Many stories only have the female merfolk in them. Stories about males are quite rare." Anik said. "I think I only heard it mentioned in one story.

Anyways, I don't really know how the fairies would induce good luck. But some people believed that if they prayed towards fairies if they had a new-born, a fairy would come and bless the child. Why? I don't really know, either, but they were supposed to be good, generally. Although there were exceptions. One song had one good and one evil fairy in it. The evil fairy tried to steal a newborn, the good one helped the parents to get it back."

Anik then gnawed off the rest of the first rabbit leg, and threw the bone behind her, before ripping off a bit of meat from the rabbit's body, and putting this in her mouth.

Listening to Anik's explanation, Timea let out a chuckle once Anik finished. "Well, that definitely sounds like fiction. Maybe with its origin based in reality, but this couldn't possibly be true. It sounds too far-fetched - a story fabricated to reinforce one's ideals of right and wrong into the children it's told to, most likely."

"Yes, this is most likely. It could be that they exist, though probably no one saw one of them in ages, and so they made up stories." Anik said.

She kept on ripping off parts of the hare's meat, her finger getting all greasy, and putting it into her mouth, without any regard to manners.

"Anyways, the vampires and werewolves both are creatures who were originally human. The vampires were bitten by another vampire, then died and were resurrected. Werewolves don't die before they turn, but they were bitten as well, so they turn.

Both of them change in appearance. The vampire can't deal with sunlight anymore, the werewolf turns into a wolf at full moon, but still can be close to human, at other times."

"Hmm. Strange that almost sounds like some disease that's being transferred. I know a particularly nasty one that is spread via bites or scratches. Hmm... . I have also heard of men that turn into wolves, called . But these were said do do this as a result of being cursed in some way. I've never seen anything of the sort, however. So this could just be a story", Timea commented, speaking the name in archaic Greek. "It's strange, that stories between the worlds we came are so similar."

"Cursed, huh." Anik said. "Well, it is called 'the werewolf curse' in some songs, so ... I don't know. I don't know if any of that is possible, but I would probably believe someone, if she told me about a personal experience."

She thought for a bit, then added: "Our worlds don't seem to be too different ... or at least what I understood from it. It's like ... I'm just from a different time and region, but not from another world. Or our worlds were really similar for some reason ..."

With that, she put the whole rabbit torso before her mouth and gnawed on it, ripping the flesh off the bones with her teeth, and feeling where more meat was with her tongue.

"Different periods in time, hmm? It's... possible, I suppose?" Timea mused, then let out a small chuckle. "My, oh my. That would make this entire situation even more bizarre than it already is. But I suppose we won't find out, one way or the other."
