You should play Gears of War, that game seems right up your alley.
Oh, and try to get a save file near the beginning of the game, not start a new game, there is some dialogue and an opening cutscene in Gears of War.
Also, didn't you, right when you jumped into the game, have an opportunity to shoot aliens?
The game dropped you almost right away on a planet where you had to fight, after you just told Joker (whatever his name was) to go there.
