For example, my first Xbox 360 broke.
My brother rang the customer service thing, some foriegner answers, after a while he gets told that they'll send him a thing to put my Xbox in and send it away to be fixed.
Nothing ever arrived.
Oh dear that happened to me as well XD

Our minds are constantly expanding and absorbing knowledge in an ever increasing attempt to understand and better ourselves.
A person would triumph over agonizing pain or petrifing fear to accomplish something that mattered.

This sounded a little more pretentious than I had hoped it would.

The only thing I can think of that's ever given me hope:

I live in Orlando, and, as some of you may know, the Universal theme park recently opened a Harry Potter section, complete with big "3D" experience super ride of "awesome" (I found it to be only slightly better than meh). Of course, people went batshit crazy over this, but, it was soon realized that the ride was not designed to cater to people of considerable weight (read: fatties). People went even more batshit crazy at having to be turned away from the ride based on their width (when actually a considerable number of the other rides in the park have similar limitations, but, screw them. They're not HP).
But...There was one Harry Potter fan who decided, instead of trying to sue them or ***** or kill something, that he was going to work hard and eat healthy until he was thin enough to fit on the ride, and even keep going to a more healthy size and lifestyle. He even turned it into a diary blog to show his progress. I have no idea what became of this person, but, reading about it gave me a small glimmer of hope for society...which was quickly overtaken by my cynicism when I thought: "bet the other fatties are gonna ***** at this guy for 'giving in' to society and their ridiculous notions of being healthy."

The one hope. THE ONE HOPE i have left for the human race is Christianity. It gives me hope.
The opposite of this. The fact that more and more people openly reject religion and its trappings. There is a long way to go, but its happening.

Every person who decides faith is not enough gives me hope for our species.
That is so ironic
No it's not, it's just self contradicting.
(quit trying to make yourself look edgy, hipster.)
I'd very much like to know who that is self-contradictory, seems pretty consistent from where I'm sitting.
because hope is faith, gaining faith out of the loss of faith is self contradicting.

Also, I believe skullkid has gone mad. Christianity is responsible for everything wrong with our society, if we reverted back to it being the religion amongst all common folk, it would be the dark ages all over again.
Unless that's what skullkid is hoping for...
So nothing else is responsible? Nothing but Christianity? Lady and gentlemen here is the number one ignorant person today.
Well if you look at it like a linear spectrum, then the further down the spectrum of Christianity, very bad things happen. Like everything that's a sin is abolished from the world we know now, remember the start of this thread is about hope for the future of humanity. How could one hope for humanity to further progress through the Christianity side of the spectrum, when the side is filled with obviously horrible things that is common knowledge.
But Christanity has also had a lot of benefits.
Yeah but in the end, it's all just one ironic joke.

Edit: i'm playing sc2 and not explaining how this is ironic.
Wow, more ignorance... just up and leaves before he would explain why its all a ironic joke. But of course Atheism is all good and nothing bad at all. >.> /sarcasm.
I had real life business to take care of -_-
It's ironic because i called him a troll while on purpose claiming skullkid is a troll to make myself the troll.

using a word in a meaning other than it's literal intention
That is irony

Hope? There is no hope for humanity. Oh sure, we will continue living and surviving and breeding like fucking rabbits, but so what? This planet is our tomb, our beginning and our end. There is nowhere else in this solar system even remotely habitable, and with the boggling distances between stars requiring centuries of travel at the very least and no way of even determining if there is even anything worthwhile there, we are stuck. Meanwhile, with humans eating anything and everything and turning the planet into a paved, cultivated garbage dump things won't last long here either. And even without all that, when the vast majority of everyone is as fucking stupid as we are (I'm not exclusing myself), then the probability of anything being done is not worth considering.

Hope? What are you talking about?

That Where The Hell Is Matt? video was good, though, as is the flame war that started when someone mentioned something that gave them hope.

Amen.

That, and the cake we get at the end.

Well, the knowledge that ancient supposed "holy" books claiming to contain inseparable absolutist dogmas, many of them quite horrifying, are being increasingly questioned, even amongst the ranks of those who claim to follow them, is always nice.

Other than that, the fact that far worse has transpired in history than what goes on now, and mankind is somehow still standing. It'll hardly improve anytime soon, but it'll presumably get along just fine as a species. That's all there really is to hope for, but perfection doesn't really suit us anyway.

What gives me hope for humanity is that thanks to the internet and the widespread availability of books ideas, inventions, research and cultures are harder to lose.

Google: Norman Borlaug

Saved over a billion lives. Billion. With a "B".
Especially if you're in Greenpeace. Google him and then go punch yourself in the face. With a brick.
And the government did 9/11 and Area 51 hides alien technology from us and Kennedy was shot from the grassy knoll and we never landed on the moon.

Any other crazy conspiracy theories I'm missing that have no basis in reality?
What conspiracy theory are you talking about? Greenpeace doesn't have a retarded anti genetically modified food policy? Sorry, I thought they were against using technologies that could save millions of people. I apologize if they actually embrace modified crops that are heartier and have a higher yield. I was under the impression they were against that kind of thing.

There seems to be a lot of religious talk going on in this thread too. I myself am an Agnostic, I do not consider myself ignorant enough to assume I know anything about this plane of existence. One thing that would bring me infinite hope in humanity however is the ability to practice any religion (or to not practice religion at all) in peace with on another. I have no problem with religious people, until they start to quote pieces of scripture from a book written by old sheep herders to restrict the freedoms of others.

Anyways, my hope for humanity is restored by men like Chiune Sugihara and Hugh Thompson Jr. and the fact that they existed on this shitball planet we live on. If you don't know who either of them are, look them up and read about what they did.

If it didn't feel great, we would have died off a long time ago. There's your answer.
