The opposite of this. The fact that more and more people openly reject religion and its trappings. There is a long way to go, but its happening.

Every person who decides faith is not enough gives me hope for our species.
That is so ironic
Well, not really, because most religions promote stagnation via fixed words of a said holy book/scripture. You can't change or adapt if rules/beliefs are set and inflexible. Yes not everyone takes it upon themselves to uphold these beliefs so strictly, but it's there, and it encourages this.

A stubborn state of mind is not a tool to further humanity or a trait to hold debate/discussion. Change is required.

Through this, I expect the increase of agnostic/athiest and maybe Taoist views, along with the glorification of reason and discussion will restore my hope in humanity.

But as it stands with our current politically correct system, and unwarranted self-importance/elitism through being offended, that is impeding discussion. I don't see a bright future for humanity if this carries on for too long.

If we blow ourselves up enough we might possibly, possibly learn our lesson.

I dunno, that's the closest I've got and it don't look a whole lot like hope.

I would settle with the innate desire to improve and do what we believe is right. As long as these desires are not distorted... Heaven's the limit.

I lol'd, don't be offended though, if you like it that's kewl.

I would say companies like Bioware and some amazing games that I can tell are made to be good, not to make a damn buck.

People who make me laugh, there aren't that many.
My religion is a joke to you thats cool
Your religion is a joke to every atheist out there, you can't honestly be surprised, especially on the Escapist.
No, it's not.
In fact, people like you who look down on others just for believing in a religion annoy me just as much as fundamentalists.
To me, it doesn't matter what your religion (or lack thereof) is, as long as you're not intolerant, or try and force it on people in any way. That really pisses me off.

Ot: I have plenty of faith in humanity. There's always people that try to fight the tide of tyranny, for equality, or simply against apathy or misanthropy (which seems to be very trendy these days)
Sure, these people may be in the minority, but they're always there, and it's that human spirit I have faith for.

That and tea. God, I love tea.

Scientists and Engineers. Not them solely, but their ideas and goals. Like cars for example. Some Greenpeace activist won't solve the problem - it will be scientists and engineers.

Health and Safety and all the crap needs to step back in the way of progress. Simply sending seeds to places like Africa is not enough, when you can advance yourself enough to send the technology there that enables them to harvest consistant and bountiful crops. (Just a note, I'm not talking about GM foods here. Just better farming equipment)

Agreed. Humanity is pretty f-ing stupid. Look at our history, the news.

Only Christ can save us now.
Oh God, you people are the exact ones that make me feel hopeless and sick of our own nature.
My main hope is this guy: http://www.newcriminologist.com/uploads/20091025739.jpg

I revive my hope by reminding myself of all the great achievements humanity has accomplished. It inspires to think positive and do my best. I want to do or create great things one day, and I will get there.

Everything Carl Sagan has said. He turns even the bleakest analysis of humanity and nature into a compelling and profoundly uplifting message. He is sorely missed.

Positive emotional forces beat negative forces in the big picture. Everyone does their best with what they've got. Some don't know what their missing, others do.
In the end truth brings people together, lies divide us. Teams co-operating towards a goal that they believe in are strong. Whole greater than the sum of it's parts. The real question is the altruism co-efficient (film - "The Box"), help those you can, protect your family, grow as a person, grow as a couple, grow as a family. Listen and be heard.

No-one wants a war, they want other things, and a war is a means to those ends. If ends are met, we are not left wanting. War is hell, but this is because conflict within breeds conflict without. If you can't sort you own problems out you need external assistance. That could be asking a friend for advice or invading a country for resources.

We are a heavily divided species. Culture, language, law, trade, craft. Better communication brings channels for conflict to be confronted. Like any chaotic system, a storm only arises when there is a large gap from equilibrium. People should stop avoiding conflict and start confronting it. There are huge issues out there that communication could confront.

More "I don't agree with your opinion, why do you hold this opinion?"
Less "Sure, that's fine, in my country it's different, but I respect your culture."

No-one wants to compromise, but understanding from both sides opens doors.

As an athiest who is usually pretty anti religion i found myself humbled by a simple scene that gave me faith not only in humanity but in religion.

It was a documentry about 9/11 where it showed hand held footage of peoples reactions. People were terrified and inconsolable with grief running, screaming, crying, but a single couple sat by the egde of the church, heads to together, hands held, and sat in silence as they shared their grief together and prayed. The scene was so humbling i gained a lot of faith in humanity and even religion.
