The one hope. THE ONE HOPE i have left for the human race is Christianity. It gives me hope.
Actually if there is anything that is the thing that I despise about people it's religion. It is just some rules you follow blindly your whole life instead of enjoying your freedom the way you should (do whatever you want as long as it is not illegal in your country *wink*).If you pray to God he can answer yes,no or wait that is ok but you don't know what he answers so if you pray to McDonalds you can assume they answer pretty much the same and you still don't know what they would answer. Also assuming you would say religion helps people...then you are an idiot because hope can't feed poor sick little old Timmy that has also been hit by a truck and is starving under a bridge,no money does that.Today it's not hope that makes your world go round it's money something i doubt any religion can give away in large quantities. The whole concept just seems medieval to those trained to think properly (anyone who has heard of the concept of thinking) it's blindly following a leader like a monarch that doesn't probably exist. All I can associate religion with is mindless violence, slaughter of the innocent,Crusades to take over a freakin' desert (reffering to all the lost lives in the crusades against Islam to take over Jerusalem where thousands of warriors were led to their demise),extremist terrorism, and recently child abuse and rape. The whole concept is like a fantasy book with plotholes the size of craters.I can not believe so many people still believe in religion.I am not talking about any specific religion so I don't want to start a whole flame war with this and if you want i can think of examples of violence and crimes against humanity from every religion in the world.

Really?

I mean...Damn, that's the FIRST time I ever heard someone say something to that effect on here.

Thanks, you give me hope for this website.
Your welcome man
funny thing is religeon is one of the things that makes me lose hope in humanity.i dont see how anyone can get hope that say's if your different in any way or you simply dont believe in god you'll burn in hellfires for all eternity.but as far as op is concerned i'd prolly say random acts of kindness.they're very rare but genuinely uplifting to see i wish i knew an example but they're very rare.

Eugh, some of you are so cynical...or just pretentious, I dunno... the 'one thing?' How about the fact the world is full of great people, and the fact that there are bad people doesn't cancel it out, it doesn't stop great people being great... Also all of you are clearly lucky people as you have a computer to read this from, unfortunately unlike a lot of the world. There's acceptance in a lot of countries (not all) of a lot of stuff. Not the whole of humanity is as lucky as you guys, so to those who are complaining of their 'only hope' maybe you should stop being so miserable and appreciate you have more than a majority of the world.

3/4th of what I see around me, if not more.

The only thing that really takes away my hope is all those annoying pessimists ranting on everything that doesn't fit in their narrowminded views on most often either religious standpoints or musical standpoint.

The miracle of life itself and how humanity has grown to be so potent is one thing that awes me. There are only like a dozen kinds of animals who actually use the world for more than territory and food, one of those, mankind obviously, has somehow worked its way into getting a very exponential lead.
Yës, humankind may be destroying the earth or whatever, but that's just the nature's way of balance. When we eventually make the world so that we can't survive, we die. Then nature takes over, and evolution would probably start over. After which a new dominant species would arrive, and you can go on and on.

Love in general (so also friendship and such) also awes me. Friendship and love can both affect lives a lot, yes they can go wrong and they don't last forever, but a bag of skittles also doesn't last forever and you keep buying new ones as well! (Horrible analogy but I thought it was a funny comparison :))

I agree totally, the amount of pessimists and self-diagnosed depressed people on the internet really ticks me off, you don't gain anything by being pessimistic, it just makes things look even worse.. So why bother! :)

I hope we progress further than believing In desert myths, and stop lying to ourselves to make life seem easier or to give false meaning. That we progress to not care about someone's sexual preference, that governments will stop being big brother and trying to control people who want to live their life as they see fit. That everyone has a choice on how they want to live their life, whether that be using drugs or walking the streets naked. We need to believe in reason beyond superstition, for rationality above blind faith. Science has progressed man beyond its wildest dreams, and will continue to do so, or the human race will come to a early end.
well said my friend, well said

My only hope for humanity is that darwinism will kick in again so we can finally advance as a species.
I would agree, but why should it? These days the ones that are most likely to reproduce are the slutty girls and the guys that are good at football.

OT looking at the technological advancements in the past 20 years is good enough.

The thing that gives me hope for humanity is all the exponentially worse stuff that happened before the present day, and our insistence that things suck giveing us a motivation to try to make things better. Meaning that someday, were going to come home from our 8 hour work month, counting the years until we can retire at 45 with a life expectancy of 200 years, and watch our 80 inch holographic TVs inform us that we still haven't eradicated the common cold, and we will give a exasperated sigh at the terrible news, and flippantly say that at least we have cupcakes to give us hope.

Serj Tankian, Buckethead, Micheal Akerf-something, Tom Morrello.
These men, geniuses, give me hope. That mankind can grow to respect each other and unite under our glorious masters, the metal gods!

Well, I won't tell you what to believe, but I can suggest you read the bible and see if you feel the same way.

Oh, and we are a highly successful species biologically. Misanthropy to me seems a bit illogical.
And about five minutes with people or a single hour in the news makes you wonder how humanity hasn't blown up themselves to oblivion yet.
Yes, yes. It does make you wonder. If the news reports absolutely everything that happens in the world, how haven't we blown each other up?

But wait, could the news organisations benefit from reporting depressing news while missing the opposite activities that occur?

Well, yes.

Simply put, what you see on the news isn't the only thing happening in the world. In fact, if humanity were as "Bad" (In the sense that most would use I'm amoralist and don't use the term myself) as your posts suggest, then the news programs would of course have enough material to run from sunrise to sundown with no repetition. But they can't. CNN has to repeat itself 400(exaggeration) times a day because there isn't any other 'negative' things to report.

IF all that you saw in the news was what actually happened day to day, we'd all be dead already. But you have to understand that the news reports probably at maximum 30% (estimate) of the world's happenings. To hate humanity based on 30% (estimate) of what it does is illogical.
