I just watch the science channel. I veer from stupid discovery shows that aren't science (Time Warp, really? That's the best you can do?) because they make me lose faith in humanity. Watching scientists do shit that makes me feel stupid actually makes me feel better about the world.

breakthrough's in science (not counting anything made for death and destruction/Military). and the rare people that you find that just are unusually nice, smart and helpful. like..WAAY more than usual. Clearly these people are genuine are there to make our daily lives all the brighter. my current family doctor is one of these people.

I personally would love to hear you reasoning on why Christianity of all things gives you hope. My views are the complete opposite.

OT: That humanity appears to becoming into a new glorious age, we are shedding off the more ignorant and wrong ways of thinking. More people becoming atheist, laws are being made on what is right, rather than the personal feelings of a single person, the fact that we are finally doing good in the middle east and how far we have come in such a short time.
I'd love to see you reason atheism is "saving the world" Because from where i stand it causes so much hate and anger

nothing really, we haven't "become more civilized" hell people will still leave you on the ground to die if you get fucked up by someone.
we still have corrupt power hungry assholes who care for us about as much as they do for cattle.

and oh yeah, the only difference between us and ancient romans in our lust for bloodsport is that even though we still have fighting championships theres a few rules to hopefully keep people from killing eachother and or it's mostly faked(such as in 99% of all pro wrestling)
we still treat each other badly, we still fight for nigh unlimited reasons. and almost everywhere i look there's just another reason to dispair on the fate of this world, as we've done so much irreparable damage.

also, big improvement in our child raising technique is to drug the fuck outa them so they're so doped up on antidepressants and sedatives that they have no energy to misbehave anymore... then they rebel and act like little shits and get excused for it because of some "behavioral Problem" they were diagnosed for and forgot to take a pill for today, when all they are is selfish little buggers just like the rest of humanity, and they've been given an excuse to misbehave...

I could go on and on and on...
but overall it's pointless, just like every single one of our lives, as everything we build will fall apart everything we say will eventually be forgotten and nobody will remember any of us give a couple generations... so why should i have hope in humanity when I'm surrounded by callous unfeeling assholes every goddamn day, when i do see someone being kind it's almost always just so they don't look like a douche to someone who's with them...

so yeah my answer is nothing gives me hope for humanity, as from what i've seen and experienced in life, we're bent on destroying eachother and ourselves in too many ways to be able to save ourselves from our own flaws.

It's very nice to meet people like you. I almost never find them in this dismal time. What upsets me is that culture nowadays is oriented around negativity and as a result, most people nowadays don't like to view positively anymore.
Oh I know that feeling, society is so fixated on themselves they cant help their fellow person out, and yet they wonder why theres so much suffering.

People like myself. I'm not being conceited, I'm being serious. I see all people, whatever their disability, race, sexuality, etc as an equal. We need more acceptance in this world.

Potential flame thread incoming in five... four....

I think the recent scientific progress in all fields is quite encouraging, in my opinion.

My only hope for humanity is that darwinism will kick in again so we can finally advance as a species.
This. Or hopefully someone can show me sometime in my life that there is something the world can do to pull its head out of its ass, and show that we aren't just a species of wasteful beings that seem to love war, and our only goal is to control everything. But instead a species that is worth having prosper without going and possibly screwing up another planet.

Whenever I get down, I think of the one thing that I hope will bring humanity out of it's deep conflicts with one another.

That thing is NUCLEAR FUSION. At least, the collection of power from nuclear fusion. It may be a bit far off (maybe not, considering the experiments in Britain this year, and those planned in France for the mid-20's) but I think it could change everything.

Imagine not having to worry about the power grid using up too much power. Imagine not having to care about leaving a light on. Imagine almost totally free energy. All of our energy comes, at least indirectly, from the Sun's rays. Plants eat the Sun, give the energy to the rest of the planet. Coal and oil is just the sun's rays stored underground after all the plants and animals that it used to be died.

Plants are only marginally efficient at absorbing the Sun's energy. And the Sun is pumping energy out in ALL directions, not just at the Earth. Imagine harnessing the entire power of the Sun without having to, i dunno, surround it with solar collectors (see: Dyson Sphere). On the Moon there is a material called Helium 3 (He3). It is a non-radioactive isotope of Helium with two protons and one neutron. On Earth, the isotope appears in Helium about 0.000137% of the time. However, the Sun has been depositing helium 3 on the Moon for BILLIONS of years.

This isotope of Helium is special because when you fuse two of these atoms together, they produce NO radiation. Mining it off the Moon would be a relatively simple operation (compared to collecting hydrogen or any other element worth fusing) and the boon on Earth for what it could produce is unimaginable.

We would no longer be reliant on the Sun for our energy supplies. Sure, the Moon would run out of fuel for us, in about 500 YEARS (even if we accelerated our uses like we have with oil). Imagine what 500 years of free energy (minus the cost of mining it(haha)) could do for us! Why would we destroy each other if there was plenty for all? I mean sure, ideological wars happen, but they aren't worth really destroying ourselves over.

To me, the only real reason that humanity will kill each other off is over resources. The whole "If one of us has to die, I'm going to make sure it'll be the other guy" thing. It's definitely something that will become a problem as the world population increases.

Fusion power will be part of the solution, if we can get it to freakin' WORK. Come ON science! (I believe in you!)

Because it is a more rational way of thinking. Religion forces you to form your ideas around an an ancient book that has no practical use in today's world, it forces you to live in fear, it forces you to accept whatever it says as absolute truth.

Also, you neglected to answer my question.
The Bible is a way to live by and I choose to be a good person. I see atheism hasn't taught you that.

The opposite of this. The fact that more and more people openly reject religion and its trappings. There is a long way to go, but its happening.

Every person who decides faith is not enough gives me hope for our species.
That is so ironic
No it's not, it's just self contradicting.
(quit trying to make yourself look edgy, hipster.)
