When a person comes to a stop sign and they only touch the breaks long enough for the brake lights to come on then keep going. In Arizona we call it a "California stop and go".

I have no idea where this name came from, but it seems to be a universal term here.

Yep, California Stop. (not the and go part)

Or, if you're teaching any iteration of a Driver's Ed class, it's a 'Rolling Stop'.

I imagine it comes from the stereotype that Californians drive like assholes.

Granted, Coloradans (where I'm from BTW) drive like assholes too, so who really knows?

Same.

Didn't know Arizonians didn't have such a weird name for them. Or that they attribute us in the name, for some reason. >_>

Didn't realize we had that stereotype. I thought it was just that we drive everywhere.

I never knew it had a name. But I never even started driving yet so that might explain why.

Traitor! I will send my sock puppets after you! you are the first AZ Person I have asked who didn't say cali stop or something along those lines. Are you a native?

Edit: I hate it when I mess up my improper punctuation.

Darn. When I read the title I thought it was a thread for, like, euphemisms for sex. Ah well.

OP: In North Carolina (at least in my peer group) we call it a "Hollywood Stop" because, according to my driving instructor, it's the kind of stop you see in movies. Same general idea, though.

Rolling stop. But I'm a Massachusetts driver, so it's called "stopping at a stop sign".

Another vote for rolling stop.

Illegal is also an acceptable answer.

Probably only a stereotype in this area, since we get a lot of people who move from California and like I said, asshole driving is a thing here too. And of course, who wants to assume that it's their own fault, right? Clearly all of these asshole drivers are those darn Californians. d=

I'll stop long enough to make sure no one is coming, I need new breaks soon and that's why I do it just so they last longer until i get new ones, I'm a pizza delivery boy
