Here's my ideal first person melee combat system. I worked it all up in my head so here goes.
When you get in range with an enemy that is attacking you, or you are hostile towards them (ex. clicking attack toward them) your movement and camera changes so you focus on them. Sort of like how in Mafi 2 when you engaged someone in combat you would get into a combat stance and focus on them. I'll use xbox for example. So here comes the cool part. Depending on your combat style (unarmed, fat axes, blades etc.) you can use the joysticks and face buttons in conjunction to do various attack combinations. Let's say you lean the left joystick to the top right while pressing your strong attack button (Y). This would have you swinging a heavy attack towards their left shoulder. You can swing it around to facing straight forward too, so that your sword dives towards their shoulder before moving towards their neck from the left side.
There's a helluva lot combos you can do too. (B) can be grab, and you have to time it to when your opponent swings. You press grab and you grapple their arm. (Y) will attempt to cut off their arm, (B) will break their arm at the elbow and (A) will fling them away. THERE'S MORE: (B)(A) will break their arm and lob them at another nearby enemy, (Y)(B) will cut them and deliver a delicious headbutt...it goes on.
Tell me that doesn't sound like an awesome combat system.

I've heard it's an updated Gamebryo, so no luck there.

More options to, I don't know, live in the world. Have a family, with kids and such. And none of that Fable blank screen and then baby nonsense. Also, more houses to buy. There was one per town in Oblivion, and while I don't really need to buy all of them, choice would be nice. The cheap fixer-upper with a view, or the mansion that comes with a butler?

I'm pretty sure they're going to use the new id engine that's being used on Rage.
Yeah I'm pretty sure they are, and it's about damn time. The Gamebryo Engine is old and buggy as hell, it has no place in this generation of gaming.

OT: Aside from EVERYTHING that's already been said, I'd like to see a fair few things return from Morrowind.
Namely things like being able to wear different boots with different pants with differentshirts, with different armor etc. It's a pain in thr arse when you get a big epic set of armor or awesome robes and you can't change your boots to the awesome boots you just picked up but instead have to wear this girly little slippers that go with it!. . . .*Pant pant*
Also, some bitchin' new combat should do the trick, plus I'd like to be able to properly play in 3rd person for once without feeling like a total dolt. It ruins the immersion when you want to walk down a long, tree-lined road, shillouetted by the sunset and your character goose-steps like a retarded wooden puppet.

Aside from all that, I'd love to see some new Horses, because the horses in Oblivion were the worst horses I have ever seen, of all time.

Maybe, if you could trigger it. I imagine fighting a group like that would be a nightmare.

It could work sort of like VATS in Fallout. You don't have to do it, and it would be annoying if it was the only way to go, but it's pretty fun to do occasionally.

Less copy & paste environments, more spell animations, more weapon and armor types, customizable weapons and armor (I HATE IT in rpgs where it's just a matter of "heavy armor x is better than heavy armor y, time to upgrade!" Make me think about what I need to have equipped for certain situations.) I'm okay with scaling levels (always keeps the combat exciting on high difficulties, is meant to discourage grinding, encourages leveling intelligently, I don't want to ever have to wade through a group of crappy cannon fodder goblins when I just became The Jesus.), but it should be fixed. Bandits wearing Daedric armor was silly. Also, the obvious, more voice actors, less bugs and glitches (not getting my hopes up), and the one thing I wanted ever since Morrowind appears like it is in fact being added.

<color=red>DRAGONS!
http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/TRND/FP9007.jpg

If it's a fantasy RPG, there should be freakin dragons in it, AND, they should always represent the ultimate challenge to the player. Dragon Age did this right, and now I'm hoping Skyrim will, too.
Aren't dragons extinct in TES? I thought they were.

But there could be hope yet, since the trailer could be implying that the race of Dragons have returned, or been awakened, or have come back from the Oblivion gates or something. Fingers crossed!

BEARDS! Proper beards too, not like that silly green thing on the bottom of my chin in Oblivion. I want my warrior men to look as manly as possible and my mages to look old and wise, need beards for that.

Personally, the only thing I truly desperately want is a better leveling/enemy scaling system. Seriously - something balanced and fair rather than what OBLIVION had.

I want beast races to not just look like humans with fur/scales. Have them be more beastly and let me play as a Sload.
NO FUCKING SLOADS!
I hate N'Gasta and all of his kind... That little fucker....
Sloads are hideous abominations, yes, but I do think they'd add a bit more variety to the world.

On the subject of beast races, I'd also love to see some actual beast looking races, especially the Argonians, since they rock tits.
As long as the beast races don't come out looking like this guy again. :/

Oh! One last thing, I don't mean to span this thread, but We need a god-damn Pack Guar!! We just need some more exotic beasts from Morrowind. I know Morrowind is a desert essentailly, and Skyrim is a viking tundra, but who cares!? Morrowind animals were retarded and awesome.

Also, bring back Netches.

For the love of God, fix the shitty melee combat. Use the Deadly Reflexes mod for Oblivion for ideas; that actually made the combat bearable, or it would if it worked more than 30% of the time.
Oh boy yes.

I HATED also on higher levels that a Goblin could easily hand me my ass. Seriously, here I am in my full daedric kit, and a goblin with a steel sword and no armor could sometimes bend me over a barrel.

It just was so frustrating. Plus, to do any damage at all, you had to be sneaking and wearing chameleon stuff anyway.

Course, melee was slightly less useless than magic on higher levels.

Lets see here....

1) More creatures to fight. (The trailer is kind of showing the future appearance of dragons though)
2) Like many people said, more voice actors
3) Less repetitive environments (For example more interesting landmarks, things that allow you to actually know where you are)
4) Improvements to magic (Always felt appearance wise this was the least polished and desirable)
5) I don't know maybe a new race?

You can't stress these issues too much:

1. More voiceactors!
2. New and improved engine!

Blood shall flow if they use the same broken oblivion engine for the FOURTH FUCKING TIME!

Depends on high I can set the bar,
If I would set it low, better melee combat Add just simple functions as duck and block, and I think it would improve a lot.
If I would set it high, then I want possibilities, I want to run my own guild (giving assingments through simple commands to crush other guilds and make yours raise high), Better magic, even though it's hardly wrong, and interresting quest that truly make a difference in how the world looks. My idea would be to let a war rage in Skyrim (Nord against Imperial) that lasts for at least hundreds days or so, after the war the whole world have changed and you preforming quests changes the outcome.
Actually I don't think that any of those things sound all that hard, I think it's possible to do it on a morrowind modd if you have the time and skill

Dual wielding
Spellcasting being a useful option to replace melee or ranged combat
New vegas style hardcore mode, must eat, drink, bleed effects, cripple zones, limb damage, etc.
Unique class benefits and perks, not just confined to races.
MORE FUCKING VOICE ACTORS
Improved combat engine that allows for decent large scale battles.
Horse combat.
A decent stealth engine.
Dismemberment. I don't want to hit someone with the mighty all powerful razor sharp sword of doom and have him just fall over.
Scaled enchanted items with levelling.
Traps that actually kill you.
Varying heights of people for once.
Ability to forge ones own weapons.
Crossbows.
Blocking that requires skill instead of holding down a button for hours.
Keep oblivions levelling system. Apart from that sleeping mechanic... that was weird.
Actual big boss fights.

And as my final point.

REALISM MODE. HARDCORE MODE. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT.

1) Don't spend all your budget on Patrick Stewart and have the do the rest of the voices yourselves
2) Use more than 3 different door skins for everything (I'm looking at you cave entrance)
3) More fluid combat with a little more variation in attacks please
4) More complexity a la morrowind
5) A better jump animation

I believe Gamebryo is no more.
The company is no more, but Beth have been working on the game for 2 years so I'd be very surprised if it's not built on Gamebryo.
I do believe there is am engine newer than the FO3/FONV one, called Lightspeed, but I doubt if it's going to be a big improvement.
Yeah, you were right actually, it's not on Gamebryo... they made a tweet about it today saying its a brand new engine and looks 'specatacular'.

Bring back the larger variation of marksman weapons like in Morrowind. My wood elf sniper is getting a little bored woth just the regular bow.
