Half-Life 2

Never has an FPS engaged me more on both gameplay, story and setting.

Call of Duty 4 comes in second.

Bioshock, Half-Life 1,2 & epsisodes are my favorites. Both have great explicit story telling & atmosphere (Half-life 1 might fall short by today's standards, but it was revolutionary at the time).

I liked a lot of Reach's campaign, at least all the parts where Brutes weren't involved.
I'm not that sure why I found it fun, but it was one of those things that I wanted to go back to playing about 5 minutes after I turned it off.
Still going to trade it in. Stupid multiplayer, why do I have to suck so much at you?
What was wrong with the brutes?
I loved it too though.
To put it short; They kept killing me.
I loved the campaign, but I wasn't very good at it.

Half-Life 2.

Call me unoriginal all you want but I haven't encountered a single FPS that came even slightly close to this kind of gold.
This. The story was great, the game was quite lengthy and well paced, and while it was linear, it wasn't linear in the same sense as somrthing like Modern Warfare, which to me seems to be mainly about flash. There's a reason why so many people have mentioned Half-Life 2 in this thread.
I'd even go as far as to say HL2 is everything I love about FPS games in one game, even though the gameplay was nothing special.

Half-life series. ALL OF THEM. I love how all the Half-life 1 campaigns kinda "overlap". I wish they would make more FPS games that way.. I love seeing a story from different angles.

I'd have to say either Killzone or Cod4.
Killzone 1 or 2. I sadly never played 1 because I heard it was just ok.
Killzone 1's campaign is fucking hard to beat. I suppose it is more realistic since you don't win an entire war in a six hour campaign, but a fifteen fucking hour slog through hell is not the most fun gameplay experience.

OT, I'd say Borderlands. Its a long game, but the gunplay and loot make up for it.
Plus, Brick is Unstoppable.

I would have to say Deus Ex. I want to throw Crysis in here, but IMO the story just dropped off as soon as the aliens show up. Overall though, Crysis was my favorite FPS i've played, the gameplay was just awesome.

COD4, Crysis: Warhead or HL2: Episode 2. All these games did a great job with pacing. I never got bored because they changed up the gameplay at perfect intervals.

CoD4, only game that made me scream at my computer for my squad mates to: "hurry up, we don't leave a man behind!". The plot was amazing and the action varied from fast pace firefights to piloting an ac-130 and a stalking level

Not entirely related but I HATE the term "campaign", it makes the "main" experience for me sound gimpy and tacked on. In terms of full stories probably HL2. In terms of HURR CAMPAIGN Modern Warfare #1, Halo might have fun gameplay and a good story but it never really struck me as having a connection between the two.

Number 1 it's ok when compared to say the first halo, but when compared to THIS generation's shooters it's extraordinary.

So NOBODY likes Bioshock 2?
I know its nowhere near the standard of the first one but hey i had a tremendous amount of fun whilst it lasted, it really made me feel like a big daddy, an all the interesting places you get to look around in sorta made it engaging.
Metro 2033 was a blast as well, it really made you fell like some unlucky lost bastard cobbling shit together to try and get your ass out of there alive.
Reach was alot of fun thought frustrating as hell on legendary because of the shitty allied AI.
Erm CODs 4 and mw2 were alot of intense and varied action.
Battlefields BC 1&2 had this feel of stoicism that i found immensely appealing, 'Whats's that? Dudes with guns? Sigh, lets get to work lads....'
Here one that was pretty funky, a comic book style shooter by the name of 13? lots of fun that one :) much of my history in gaming has been based on shooting my pixels at enemy pixels hooray for the FPS
