Mentioned already:
Command & Conquer. C&C3 was bad, C&C RA3 was mediocre... C&C4 was horrid. Generals is NOT C&C at all.
Personally I disagree with you on C&C3. I thought it and Kane's Wrath were the best C&C games since Red Alert 2. I found them both solidly enjoyable. Agree with you on the rest though.

Generals was a pretty solid RTS, but not a very good C&C game, in my opinion. I think I would've liked it better if it had been a seperate franchise, instead of having the C&C name tacked on what was basically a completely unrelated game. Still liked it more than either Red Alert 3 (at least in pure gameplay terms) and C&C4 (in terms of everything).

too many to pick just one.....

Final Fantasy series (please please please make versus 13 a redemption of the series rather than the crap since 10). Show of hands who thinks I'm delusional?

Sonic but then I stopped playing it after the 3rd one.

Fable

Halo. Each game gets worse and worse. Not like the first one had much of a plot -
King Leonidas wins the Battle of Thermopylae on Larry Niven's Ringworld

Crysis
Sonic
Command+Conquer
Duke nukem
Cod

the ones at the top are at the top because they actually started off pretty epic in the first place and their sequels are just utter failure retrograde junk

you know what's wrong with crysis, so don't even ask.
sonic was epic at launch, there was nothing to compare with it but never games.. meh.. its no longer relevant
command and conquer generals was the turning point in rts gaming imo, it had all the elements down, and mostly lacked graphical fidelity and even that was good for it's day

now? they suck equally

Resident Evil not that i was a huge fan of the originals, I liked number two alot, but number 4 was a damn perfect gem. Then number 5 came out as for the next one they showed at E3 did you see what the new one is its like left 4 dead gameplay and killing floor classes mixed together.

I know it's been said seventy bahmillion times now, but it needs to be repeated: Final Fantasy.

However, on a more personal level, I'm going to say Metal Gear Solid. Now, I discovered the franchise for the first time just this year, and I freaking loved Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 and the MSX games. Then I popped in Metal Gear Solid 3 and, well... I can't understand why people call that the best of the trilogy. It made so many design mistakes that it was a wonder I was able to play it through and beat it on normal difficulty.

I kept on with the series though, opting to play Portable Ops and Peace Walker next (because a PSP was more affordable than a PS3), and while the former looked like a step in the right direction, Peace Walker went and ruined everything all over again. Seriously, Kojima? User-controlled camera on a PSP game where its not comfortable (and no option to auto-target enemies)? No pause while in the inventory? Taking away features that had been standard since day one and replacing them with this half-baked Management Sim minigame?

On top of that, the storyline, which was showing promise in MGS2 (quiet, I liked MGS2--Raiden and all) went in some absolutely dumb directions. So now, MGS is dead to me.
I must agree. To hammer the point more: Final fucking Fantasy WE'RE TELLING YOU WHAT WE WANT SQUARE, DONT GIVE US CUTSCENES GIVE US GAMES!

I never really got why MGS3 was regarded as the best either. I will admit I quite enjoyed it and it gave some interesting game play, but I could hardly regard it as the best. Imo, the best one would have to be Metal Gear Solid. I played the game when it came out in what, 98? and it's still to this day one of the greatest games i've ever played. It had a great anti-war message, it was still awesome and the story had yet to con-volute itself into the storyline mess that is mgs4 >_> looking at you .... nano machines.

I never played the psp titles, were they really that bad?

With Human Revolution still undetermined, the biggest Series Letdown I've played comes from Deus Ex.
First one : Awesome times.
Invisible War : I think I just threw up a little.

The X-Com series.

First one was an absolute masterpiece in my eyes, but the series went nowhere but downhill ever since, until the whole series just died out.

Also Heroes of might and magic.
Although i liked both HOMM4 and HOMM5, it seems they they reached the peak with HOMM3, and once you are at the top there is nowhere to go but down. I cant wait for the HOMM6 to come out....hopefully it`l be good enough to revive the series.

Elder Scrolls, X-Com, and possibly Fallout if Bethesda makes the next one instead of Obsidian.

My vote goes to Brothers In Arms. I never really got into the games (based mostly on my distaste for WWII games), but the newest one coming out, Furious Four... Just... Just watch the Trailer. It's bad.

Pokemon.

I get the feeling that it's just because I'm not a kid anymore and no longer to accept new ones, but 600+? Go away.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but one that personally annoys me.

Destroy All Humans.

DAH 1 & 2 are by far my favourite sandbox games on the PS2, they had tons of humour, great gameplay, interesting missions and fun weapons and if you haven't played them I cannot recommend them enough. The only problem was after 2 the series fail cascaded.

I would really like to see a reboot and/or HD remake of the series.
