Crazy sold better... Think what you want about her, fact is she is rich and famous while other, more talented and more sane artists are totally unknown.
So don't knock it if it works.
If you change who you are and what you do in order to broaden your appeal, you're more the art than the artist.

Some of the most amazing artists of all time made little or no money. I wish we didn't associate the two so closely.

Hmm, I think I posted a video of her in an earlier thread. Yeah, I was shocked at first too. I still can't fully accept just changing that drastically without some sort of mental defect, money or no.

Couldn't you say becoming the art is even more artistic though?

Also art is subjective, the fact that you don't enjoy it doesn't mean it's in any way worse.

Before this notion that Gaga is bereft of talent spins out of control;

As for her image, it's one of few original acts in modern pop music. That if anything ought to be applauded.

Van Gogh didn't become famous because of his death, art critics just randomly declared he was awesome after he died.

Also, how do you know she sold out, maybe she just felt like writing a different type of music.

People develop and change. That was her music then and this is it now -shrugs- The above link just reminds me of Avril lavigne and doesn't sound original, least her music now is original...alteast the presentation and videos are anyway.

Eitherway, she has become Lady gaga otherwise she wouldn't be as a famous or successful as she is now. The market is saturated with, "Angelic singers..." and they don't become super special as after talking about her excellent singing voice, what is there left to discuss/promote?

Same with folk like christina aguleria and britney spears, "the American girl..." that concept has been done to death, so Lady gaga entering that market would be pointless.

What she has done is created something that the gays friggan love, girls friggan love and what everyone else who may not wish to admit it, is catchy. Her music is quirky and her videos get peeps talking.

Smart gurl that lady gaga is.

He sold less than ten paintings in his lifetime, and hundreds afterwards.

Touche, but the music industry today is built upon selling your self to the highest bidder,She only made money after she became Gaga,So the evidence points strongly to it.

You're kidding, right? That song is awful, and she can't even sing.
I believe this is what they call a clash of opinions, and even if it isn't the best I'd rather listen to it instead of brillo-pad voice.

That? That was Lady Gaga?!

She lost weight...and half her sanity.

In a way she kinda reminded me of Alanis Morrisette and Avril Lavigne

I'd say that the reason she sells more now is that she's just better at this kind of music. The example you showed was, in my opinion at least, sub-par pop punk (a genre which i'd like to point out doesn't need to be sold out of to make a truckload of money - avril lavigne, blink 182, paramore etc.)

She makes so much money as Gaga because she is one of the best pop artists in the business (of course, I admit the loopy-ness does help publicity wise but hey, it's a laugh)

Its a catch used to make her unique when compared to all the other artists out there? That's the only real reason I can think of when dealing with Lady GaGa.

I don't care what anyone says, acting and dressing like a nutcase doesn't make you original, it makes you a nutcase.

I really can't differentiate her music from the rest of the swill that gets played on the radio, mainly cause so many artists are going from this "look at me I'm a spectacle" angle now.

Personally thats more to my taste then what shes doing now, I totally disagree with people saying its generic and sounds like avril lavigne. Its like a light jazz/pop fusion and i think she could of made better music if she stuck with this style and i would of brought it.

But better fame and money? no way and there lies the answer.....
