I only feel obliged to judge an artist when they waste their talent. Her new persona, Lady Gaga, is an embarrassment. Its all show, just getting reactions from people. Publicity. I have no respect for Lady Gaga. But I have the utmost respect for Stefani Germanotta. That side of her is the actual musician. When she's herself... Well, I'm left speechless.
Here's the thing though, Lady GaGa isn't a persona. It is truly who she is (at least, this is how Gaga herself sees it). Yes, Gaga is obsessed with fame and reactions and does whatever she can to get it, but Gaga is not a persona. It truly is her, she's discarded the name Stefani, not even her own mother calls her that anymore. The crazy costumes she wears on stage, she wears them in everyday life as well. When she was an intern for a record company, people would be baffled when she showed up for work in rediculous costumes, but it's just who she is.

If that is the case, then I will say this,I had respect for who Stefani was.

I don't know - she makes me laugh now, so I prefer Lady Gaga to Stefani. Incidentally, I feel I'm laughing with her rather than at her - she's definitely in on the joke and clearly not insane at all. That makes me respect her.

She got better, duuuh. That music is fucking awful! Her new stuff is definitely better.

She was cute back then, but I absolutely adore her now

Hoooooooly fuck that was unexpected. She's turned into quite the disgusting whore since those days.

I simply hate her because her music is uninspired bullshit and she rides to fame on the fact that she wears ridiculous outfits. Everyone thinks her music is so amazing, talented, unique, and cool. No. It sounds pretty much like most poppy-shitty music on the radio anymore.

But whatever. The world needs celebrities to pander to, since apparently society is a bunch of fucking sheep anyway, liking what the record labels tell them to like. So Gaga's here to stay. At-least until a new one comes along and she gets dropped in the gutter.

I saw this old video where she was playing classic piano and singing very well. She just pretends she has no other talents then choreographed dancing to sell albums - smart girl.

If you ask me, she's just trying to be the next Marilyn Manson. The only difference I see is that while Manson probably had some kind of abstract message behind his image, Gaga just saw what that image did for him and decided to copy it outright. I don't get the same artistic vibe from Gaga, just a whole bunch of "LOOK AT ME! LOOK! AT! ME! MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!"

Watch this:

Then this:

You see what I'm getting at? When Manson was asked about the weird shit he did, at least he'd be able to offer some kind of explanation for it, which shows that even if his overall image was outlandish and a little bit fruity, it was the result of a culmination of elements with actual thought behind them. Gaga, on the other hand, just has an image that she forces down everyone's throat. She wears stupid outfits, has pointless music videos which illustrate exactly jack shit, and the only reason I bother pointing this out is because it's been done before by someone who had a message to get across, which makes it painful to watch someone strut into the limelight doing the exact same thing just because they know it works.

Is it a new trend in the music industry to rip off others and sell a product based solely on image (and don't pretend the music's any good, she's on par with Cher at best)? No, absolutely not. But it pains me to see people regard her as eccentric and artistic when she's really just an attention whore. Bear in mind, I really only like a few of Manson's songs, but I respect the fact that he most certainly did establish the image that Gaga is mercilessly exploiting in the most pretentious way imaginable.

EDIT: also, Marilyn Manson could probably convince me that he doesn't have a penis. That's another difference between the two.

Smart gurl that lady gaga is.
Well the gender is clearly ambiguous.

Before this notion that Gaga is bereft of talent spins out of control;

As for her image, it's one of few original acts in modern pop music. That if anything ought to be applauded.

She used to be pretty cute in my opinion, now i find her insanely unattractive.

Her older music suits my taste better too, albeit slightly.

I bet you the pricely sum of 12 pounds that her stuff is still played on the radio in 10 years.

Also looking back and laughing at something applies to many popular artists (elton john, bee jees, kool and the gang etc.) that still (occasionally) get played. That just adds to the cheesy fun of it all.
Ok you cant compare elton john and lady gaga. One relied on talent and the others created more generic swill and sold it by dressing like a moron. In 10 years her stuff will be dead because the only reason is sells is the way she dresses. She tries to look like a freak, and succeeds at it but its not her music that sells its her look. Her music is crap, its the same crap as every other pop star. The thing about pop music like gagas is that is that it only sells because its popular and its only popular because of her looks. In 5-10 years everybody will forget about her and you will never hear that swill again. Its all very generic and oh dear god her voice is aweful.
yes, Elton John never dressed like a freak for attention.

oh wait, what do we have here: http://vicariousmusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/john-elton-photo-elton-john-6226598.jpg

Also stop being so pretentious

Why does everybody hate Lady Gaga? Am I going to be eaten alive if I admit to getting some of her songs from a friend's computer?
