Pretty simple, what invention, world changing, trivial, what-have-you, was invented in the country you call home?

I'll go first.

America- Airplane, Machinegun, bifocals, tumbler lock (I believe), and the telephone.

EDIT: LISTS DON'T COUNT SLACKERS!!!
sorry, Alexander Graham Bell was Canadian. You guys didn't invent the telephone. It was patent in the US, yes, but he was Canadian

Also:

Space arm, texting, basketball, hockey, lightbulb, zipper, poutine, JAVA (the language), key frame animation, both insulin and bone marrow compatibility testing, pacemaker, washing machine (I'm cheating now), Plexiglas, panoramic picture cameras, muskol (the best insect repellent in the world), silicon steel alloy, wireless radio, tracer bullets, chocolate bar, the macintosh apple! (the actual apple, not the computer), goalie mask (Take that Jason!).

and...

Canada Dry Ginger ale!!!

Wireless telegraph, spinning wheel (the thing on a fishing pole), magnetic detector, gas turbines, movable artificial arm and the first actively used parachute. Not bad from such a small country.
Yours sincerely, Slovakia

People keeping mentioning the telephone and I was under the impression there was some debate as to whether Alexander Graham Bell merely patented the telephone having stolen the invention itself.

English inventions:
- Champagne
- Baseball
- Chicken Tikka Massala

I thought those three were interesting additions.

It was the other way around, someone tried to steal the invention from him. There's a reason that Canada has a "bell" telephone company.

There's also either a documentary or a movie... I can't remember

Hmm as a Brit there is much I could claim my compatriots invented but I think our single greatest contribution to the modern world was mechanical standardization. Without the ability to create identical parts repeatedly I do not think the modern world could exist.

We also originated the concept of National Debt - the idea that a nation could loan or borrow money much like an individual and we used it to raise funds to fight those dastardly Frenchmen!

Edit: Does this mean we are responsible for the global recession we experienced?

Sorry guys we really needed to afford a big navy in the 17th century and the treasury was broke :3.

The way I understand it is that the Brits made the local area network between a few universities while they then in the states "upgraded" it to the world wide web. Or am I completely wrong now?

Also I would have said Jet Airplane(Avro Arrow) but my plane-nut friend has informed me otherwise. So i'll stick with "pioneered"
Sorry to break it to you but Canada weren't even close on that. The Germans were credited with building the first working jet plane in the Messerschmitt 262 and the British Gloster Meteor followed soon after. Both were around at least eight years before the Arrow was created.

Anyway onto my country and the Portable Defibulator.
ya thats what my plane-nut friend informed me of a while ago. But while we didnt invent it, but we were still one of the first
Oh, and Canada also made Plexiglas and poutine (take that arteries)

HAH! I knew someone from the US would post 'The Internet' sooner or later. You, sir, are exceptionally misinformed. Much as the USA would like to take the credit for creating the most important invention of the past century, they have no rights to do so. The internet was actually invented by Tim Berners-Lee, an ENGLISHMAN from London who created it in 1990. To be fair though, the USA did have the tools to make something similar as early as the 1960's, but the internet as a whole, and the 'World Wide Web', weren't created until 1990, after a proposal for its development was put forward in 1989 by Berners-Lee, who was working at CERN at the time. So yeah...

Oh, and also, the UK is responsible for most of the good musical developments that have occurred within the past few decades. British bands and artists such as The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Black Sabbath, Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, etc. made massive strides in musical progression in their eras, thus leading directly to the modern music scene.

And finally, us Brits were responsible for creating the USA. Never forget that. If we hadn't had colonies over there then you guys would be a completely different country and probably be speaking French or Spanish now. Though I do apologise on behalf of the UK as a whole for our ancestors sending you the Puritans. Maybe if we hadn't done that, then you wouldn't have the Republicans, or any of the crazy Bible-bashing religious nutjobs (note I don't mean all Christians, I just mean the sort who oppose anything that isn't in 'The Bible', like the gay-haters or the gun nuts...). I just hope you can forgive us for giving you them... :p

Yes I believe Antonio Meucci got there first.
