FOr me the longest fight was Abyssion in Tales of Symphonia. I was going at him full force non-stop and it still took around 20-25 minutes to kill him, in this is in a real-time RPG.

The Witch King, on Lord of the Rings: the third age. That fucker took me nearly an hour...250,000hp, when each of the members of my group take off around 1000hp if your lucky...I actually let out a cheer when he died.
I didn't actually find the Witch King that difficult. The Eye of Sauron on the other hand. I'm pretty sure that took at least an hour. And that's with using the item that lets you remove an enemy's armor.

I don't remember the bosses exactly, but in Breath of Fire 2, I had several bosses where people would leave my room, come back hours later and I'd still be on the same boss.

I think that game was just very good at keeping you alive if you weren't grinded up enough to beat the boss properly, but I could be wrong.

Any number of raid bosses from WoW. From actually making it to them, figuring out how to take them down, and the half hour or so per battle...sucked up a lot of my time. Freaking blackwing lair.

1. Melbu Frahma in legend of dragoon. Having four times as many HP as any boss before it and having the power to make dragoons weak near the end makes this the boss of all bosses. The battle takes at least 40 minutes, for one attempt.

Oh, and also confusing everyone in your party so they hack and slash each other to death.

2. Cynthia: Damn that togekiss and it's excellent type coverage. took me about 30 minutes with slighlty underleveled pokemon.

good old PS2 game called Dark Chronicle

I was fighting the last boss for at least an hour and a half. And then he respawned as an even more powerful version and the bastard killed me.

Crying Wolf on MGS4 on the Boss Extreme difficulty. Spent the entire time crawling around and trying to evade the friggin' soldiers that wonder around. Each time I got a shot in, Wolf would run over my ass forcing me to hide somewhere for a bit and then find her again.

Probably (that comes to mind right away and I can remember well) was Mecha Bahamut or whatever it was called in Final Fantasy 10-2

Chimerageist in Final Fantasy X. He's actually one of the easiest beasts in the Monster Arena, but like an idiot I tried to take him down before leaving the Calm Lands, leaving me doing a few thousand points of damage with my heavy hitters against a boss with 520,000HP, only surviving that long because his elemental attacks can be predicted and thus nullified by Yuna. Thankfully I've never played FFXII, as Yiazmat sounds insane.

Honorable mention to Ragu O Ragla in Wild Arms 3, since no matter how powerful you are you'll be several hours on his two forms. The first with 700,000HP and the second with 999,999, in a game where breaking 3000 requires the use of an otherwise gamebreaking buff.

RPGs and their damage sponges...

Prototype, FF13, and recently Spider Man: Shattered Dimensions have caused me plenty of rage, but Devil May Cry 4 made me drop my controller in shock, walk past my wife with a heartbroken look on my face, and didn't speak for an hour after I came back in from a smoke.

Dante Must Die mode, Mission 11. After about 3 hours of whittling his health down and downing health items like Halloween candy, I had the boss down to a single hit point. The problem is that he has a regenerating shield; and once you take that down, he runs like a coward for about 5 seconds before hiding in a giant statue of God to recover. I found myself at half health,(one full bar) pondering if I had a gold orb left, then his Devil Trigger kicked in.

That's when God punched me in the face, and wiped my health to zero in one hit. *sigh* In a few months I'll have forgiven the game enough to try again.

One of my longer boss battles was the dark bowser at the end of Mario and Luigi 2: Bowsers Inside story. It took me at least 30 minutes to totally kill him, and I died twice attempting the boss.

Possibly the final bosses from Kingdom Hearts 2. I don't remember the exact time, but to me it felt to be at least a half hour.

Heavenly Sword's final boss. 45 minutes at least.
Probably didn't help that it took me 20 minutes to work out you could dodge, attack, rinse, repeat and win. But still, that health bar... just chipping and chipping and chipping...
Would've been so much easier if I got to play Twing Twang for it.

I too remember Sephiroth as one of the longest boss battles I've fought. I totally failed to do any of the side quest stuff, and I didn't even have Omnislash. After a second playthrough years later, I don't know how I managed that. Anyway, I beat him after an hour.

The real kicker was killing him again on that second playthrough in a matter of seconds. Never even got to see that awesome Supernova animation again, even though I got sick of it the first time around.

I was trying to level some of my "Less used characters"...Something which I vowed never to do ever again.

I agree, the eye of Sauron, with that stoopid attack that froze you and stole your health...Not impressed! haha

The End from Metal Gear Solid 3.

That fight took me about six hours straight to beat. And it was the best boss fight I had so far.
