What would get you to pre-order a game?

I usually pre-order only games that are the next installment of my favorite series, though I did pre-order Batman: Arkham Asylum and was not disappointed. I would pre-order more games if I didn't have to move so often. Moving is expensive and the release often comes after my address has changed again.

If I really wanted to game, or there was a high demand for it and chances could be that they'd be out if I didn't pre-order it. :p

Or, even better, if it came with free money!

If I am not interested in the game, no amount of special goodies are going to make me pre-order it. In fact, I am an avid opponent of preorder bonuses. I vastly prefer everyone getting the same thing for the same price.

Added game content gets me to pre-order. Dragon Age 1 and 2 came with DLC included as well as unique magical items...these were great incentives to buy the game day one. That and a games soundtrack since I love instrumental music.

Otherwise I'll just pre-order a game to ensure I get a copy if its during a slow gaming month or I've taken time off work. In this case case I'm just trying to get the game on release day and the additives play no role in decision.

Either:

1. A great demo. Nothing compares to actually playing the game.
or
2. A cheap price and me knowing that I'll almost certainly buy the game anyway, even if it's not good. Example: Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

I've been thinking about pre-ordering Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Skyrim because they're both about $40... but I'm really not the pre-ordering type.

The Fallout 3 Lunch box and bobble head got me - haven't pre-ordered any other games though, who needs concept art books and soundtracks?

Well, when Portal 2 unlocked 12 hours early on my computer I was pretty happy I pre-ordered. I'll pre-order if there is something in it for me like bonus content or a neat extra. Since I am now pretty much only gaming on the computer the extra is usually digital.

I'd have to want to play it. Some cheap shit included because I pre-order isn't going to convince me.

one of the things that would get me to pre-order a game is that if its prequel was a game that i enjoyed, such as elder scrolls 5 whish i have pre-ordered entirely on the basis that i enjoyed the last two elder scrolls games.

Well, I tend to throw my money around alot... So If theres a game coming out and I know I might waste the cash on something else, I'll go pre-order it...

Also, its a good reminder because I'm always bound to forget a release date...

Plus, sometimes theres launch parties, and thats always fun...

As the title says, what would make you pre-order a game?
honestly? i think it would help combat used game sales AND encourage pre-orders if all new games had a one-time use install code that let you install the game directly onto your hard drive and you never needed the disc again (no matter if it was for PC or console). Of course the disc COULD be used, and the original buyer would be encouraged to hold onto it in case they want to take it to a friend's house, but i really think this would be a capital idea.

I usually preorder when it's a game that I will be getting anyway such as Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, Arkham City, that way I will for sure have the game and do the whole nerdy game launch thing.

Collectors edition at no increased cost, DA2 signature edition preorders were pretty good.

The only thing I've preordered for the bonus in the past few years is Muramasa: The Demon Blade. It came with a huge wallscroll full of the game sprites and artwork. This wouldnt be so impressive if the sprites were not handpainted and absolutely beautiful. Still haven't hung it up yet, but I played the game through recently. It's really cool looking and it's not a book or a code for some dumb helmet that all the other people playing online will have until the game starts showing up used in stores. People worked hard on that scroll and it shows.

I got Portal 2 (PC) on Amazon for $35 a few weeks before release. It was a while before prices reached that level again, I think.

I've only pre-ordered Fallout: New Vegas because I got the Collector's Edition which was worth it for the extra $20.

I'll probably pre-order Skyrim simply because I plan on getting on release day anyway and the cool map is a nice bonus.
