i was a little annoyed that the the last video didn't have any new content but i think a good amount of hatred is geared towards reviews in witch he said games were bad that also had eccessivly devoted fanbases, said fanboys and fangirls then proceeded to do what we in the south like to refer to as "throwing a hissy fit"

The best part of this thread is that you can relate it to pretty much anything that is popular in the world.

Naruto? Everyone bashes it because of fanboys/fangirls going around thinking they are ninjas and throwing hand signs in the air for no reason what so ever.

World of Warcraft? Everyone bashes it because of fanboys (girls? On my WoW? ......probably) who decide to defend it when others bash it, or decide to continually talk about it when NO ONE ELSE GIVES A SHIT.

Angry Video Game Nerd? This is a funny one because the ZP fanbase and the AVGN fanbase just love to fight against each other on which series is best instead of sittng down and enjoying it.

I would of said Nintendo but that was already covered in this topic. Now then, the four examples here are just some of my personal favorite things to play/watch. I bet you guys have much more to compare. :)

...Simple? Because humans will always find somthing to seperate themselves in order to place themselves in a higher position than others. Thus, the seperation of the 'Oh well I knew about the escapist before ZP therefore I am better' group and the nervous yet somtimes overly rowdy and pushy 'ZeroPunctuation yay! Ohheylookaforum!' crowd.

It'll pass with time. Don't let it bother you.

But then of course there are the truly scary people who do worship Yahtzee as the prophet of gaming. Which quite frankly creeps me out. Yahtzee is a kindred spirit in that I was cynical toward games merely a few years after I was exposed to them, and I used to have these little ranting sessions in front of my friends about the stupidest of things (Mario's mushroom and stars fixation was a frequent), So I greatly enjoy his work. In fact when it was first linked to me, the comment under the link by my smart arsed friend was: lol hey Charli it's a dude you! (Accent, expansive vocabulary, the entire malarky)

But I have disagreed with his opinion of several games, hell, I love JRPGs, agreed there is alot of bullshite, there is arguably alot of the same in any of the other genres, it's just a preferance for my lazy nature. I like sitting there mashing the X/A button and reading tonnes of drivel. (I blame my mother)

But anyway, rambling, the point is; most of the people hating ZP, are the following:

1) Elitests unable to their swallow pride
2) People with dull sense of humour (I like to think of them as Wikipedia lurkers)
3) People that actually think Yahtzee is REVIEWING the game
4) Your dear old Aunt

As with the case with a lot of people it was Yahtzee's reviews that first drew me here. I myself find the reviews amusing and entertaining. What I don't like about his reviews is the worrying culture of negativity they have seemed to inspire.

I'm not saying Yahtzee is the only cause, but its far more common to see people these days insisting a game is terrible and should be avoided like the plague, rather than calling it the "BEST THING EVAR!"

Because everything popular on the internet attracts trolls I love ZP but for every one good member it attracts it gives the forum at least one troll a troll that is quickly slayed but a troll never the less.

That and I don't like all you new guys getting more posts than me making my e-penis feel small D:
Theres a cream for that?

At times I dislike Yahtzee for the same reason I eternally dislike Valve and most PC gamers, he sometimes conveys a feeling that he is better than the rest of us.

Whether his popularity and mesiah complex is deserved or not is a different issue, the point remains that it surfaces a few too many times for comfort and it is very apparant when it does.

Seems like people have a grudge against site-users who enjoy Zero Punctuation. I like a lot of the things here but ZP is what brought me here, and in my opinion it's the funniest part of the site. I like Stolen Pixels, don't really like Unforgotten Realms and haven't watched enough De-Rez to have an opinion.

I think this is by far the best forum community I've been a part of and best source for news on things I actually care about. Nobody seems to really hate anybody and all is well but what's with all the bad blood between ZP lovers and everyone else?
I don't know why no-one else point this out but you gave this thread the wrong name. It's meant to be "Why all the hate on ZP?" You could just edit it to fix that.
I fail to see anything wrong with my title. :p

I hate (more strong dislik) ZP not just because of the fan base but because it just got old.

I've said it before, it was great when it was a fresh idea. I mean.. A guy who uses big words to make fun of games but as the months went on it just became "I wonder what he will rip on next" and then for me it became "oh hes 'reviewing' *inset game* he hates it, lets not watch"

To make matters worse.. People come here prasing him like he is a pagan god and throw ZP quotes around.

It just got old...

I see your point. It's still sort of new for me but I can see how it would get repetative for the more long-term fans. I haven't seen any quotes thrown around yet but I already hate those people.

What's the deal with Jerry Seinfeld style questions?

All kidding aside, I think it's easier for people to vent their displeasure on something that's equally vocal as opposed to something like the Escapist Show. If someone is harsh towards a game that you may like, how willing will you be to listen to them, let alone support them?
I would be very willing to listen to them and support them, Yahtzee has gone against 2 games I really like and I found his review was very funny and made valid points, thats what I like about ZP, it is very clever, very funny and altogether entertaining, even when you may not agree with his view on that particular game.

I can understand if you come storming in to the forums yelling that "ZEPE IS THE GREATEST! HE IS SO FUNNY FOR TALKING FAST! HE BASHED HALO! HE IS WIN!" some people might see that as a shark sees chum, but if you stroll in and contribute thoughfully, you'll be accepted.
Lesson: Be like everyone else to get friends.

Well, Yahtzee is funny, I guess. But I can make fun of games on my own.
And I, being one of the ten new people who discovered this on it's own right and not because of ZP, it's because he's more popular than the site itself, is what I think it is.

Is anyone going to hate me if i let you all know that i have a hat like Yahtzee's and wear it all the time?
It's not because of Yahtzee that i own the hat, that'd be weird and slightly stalker-ish
It's just a nice hat
And it keeps my hair away from my face
Has a black and white stripe around it too =D

On-topic: i like Yahtzee; he's funny and we have a good thing going on but everyone who's said it is right about the "open door for the trolls" syndrome

EDIT:

I like Yahtzee's reviews; I find them entertaining. As far as game design is concerned, I would consider him to be more perceptive and more analytical than most of the gamer community (although less so than game scholars). In spite of all that, it's idiotic to join a cult around him, or anybody, just because he's entertaining.

I think the main problem with the trolls among Yahtzee's fan base is the misconception that one must be in agreement with something in order to like it, and along with agreement inevitably comes "crusader-like fervor." (Pause for irony. Pause over.)

There's no issue with liking ZP, lots of us like ZP.
The problem is the people it attracts, like people from the roosterteeth and GameFAQs forums who only post on the ZP threads to be first post. They're all idiots who treat the Escapist like just another forum site, instead on one where we don't use the words "ive" or "u".
If you ever post first and say "first!!!!1!!" you're automaticly on my hate list.
