Mass Effect 2. It took away over 100 hours of my life, and I still want to give it more. The whole game was just amazing to me. A close second is RDR. It kept me entertained for months while I saved for other games, so I love it simply for that. The great story and shooting people six times in the face helped as well.

My GOTY is Mass Effect 2 of course. It gave me an incredibly fun time and the whole story was brilliant. I gladly let it take away hours of my life as I played possibly 100 or more hours on it, but it was totally worth it. It was so good, I was enjoying it still months later.

I would make a close contender between:
god of war III
splinter cell conviction
mod nation racer

(I have not played ac:b, fallout NV, or fable III which I am all interested and may be contenders but at the moment cant say)

So you haven't enjoyed it at all?
Once, in a Blue Moon, I enjoyed it.

Ok,I seriously do find the game appealing and it is probably the best I've played this year. I just wish Bethesda take their games away from that awful Gamebryo engine. No game using that engine was ever stable! Even Morrowind ffs!

MASS EFFECT 2

(hope that setting it in capitals makes it count double or something, this IS absolutely the game of the year)

I will have to go with Mass Effect 2, followed by Bayonetta, Alan Wake and Red Dead Redemption.

Read Dead Redemtion, AC:Brotherhood and Mass Effect 2 are outstanding.

But i´ll go with Heavy Rain because it´s not a sequel. Originality should be rewarded.

Dragon Age: Origins. It was released in November 2009, but still. If I must pick one from this calendar year, I'd say Civilization V.

Ahhh beat me to it, I freakin' love that game.

Everything in it is just so well done, and this is coming from a relatively small eastern European dev. Give them the money and capabilities of the big name designers and I can almost guarantee that they could make the best games in the world.

There's also apparently gonna be a sequel, Metro 2034.
I know, I'm fuckin' EXCITED.

Even better than them being really small (allowing them to work together better as a team), it's mainly made up of former employees of GSC GameWorld (the company that makes the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series). They tested the FUCK out of the 4A Engine on PC, 360, and PS3 to make sure that they were getting the most they could out of it. What more could you ask for out of a developer (except the option to play with Russian voices on every platform)?
I will always have something against that company for not releasing it on the ps3 -_- I was so looking foward to that fuckin game

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - the multiplayer is a bit laggy but other than that - no complaints.

And no the story isn't "stupid" just because it's not realistic.

It's the only game that has entertained my all the time, every time this year.

That or World of Warcraft cataclysm.
hehe, out 1 day and it is already GOTY, must be good I guess...

Mine is a tough decision but it would have to be Black Ops because I am having tons of fun now and will have tons of fun in the future as well, and F:NV just wasn't a contender in the end for me...

Either Bayonetta or Vanquish.

Leaning towards Bayonetta at the moment.
I'd like to give those two it (seriously, I would. They are action cranked up to 15, fed a cocktail of strange drugs, and set on fire for the hell of it), but Vanquish was way too short (I blame Sam's unmentioned but clearly there lung cancer from smoking more than the Gentleman image and Solid Snake throughout his entire career) and Bayonetta prevents me from replaying it if only because I almost feel embarrassed with the oversexualization in it, as well as the load times I had to put up first run through (PS3).

I'd love to give it to Darksiders, but it never really fulfilled it's promise (and yet the way it ended kept that alive for a sequel).

Heavy Rain as well came up short (length, the children in the game, and a few other minor problems)

There were also plenty of other good games as well, and a few GOTY editions that I'd like to add, but just didn't end up making it.

So far my list of candidates is this then

-Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
-Mass Effect 2
-Red Dead Redemption
-Neir
-Halo Reach
-Pokemon HG/SS
-BlazBlue Continuum Shift
