FF has not died for me as of yet. Some I did not enjoy like 2, 7, and 8. Reason for 7 is people gave it too high expectation. By the time I played it, I was a little disappointed.

I do like 12, I did not mind the changes made to it. it is an odd thing to dislike a game over, but that's just me. It's kinda like an old married couple who have been eating the same lunch their whole lives, and the wife decides to try something new for once and then husband decides he wants a divorce.

I do not have a favorite FF and I do not expect 13 to be the first.

Right around the time it went all "internet" on me. I mean seriously, I play FF to get away from all the idiots of the world, not to get screwed over by them in my home.

7 was epyx... the flame at it's brightest, not to be cliched AT ALL!!!
8 was not bad, but not great... squal's a damn emo!!!
9 was the beginning of the end, playing as a goddamn furry... the first bloody knife wound!!!
10 brought it back up to the standard of 8... nothing exceptional, a glimmer of hope!!!
10(2) was just twisting the knife and making everything irrepairable!!!
11 was the death rattle... last breath leaving it's lifeless body!!!
12 was as good as 10 to be honest, but it was just propping up a corpse really!!!
13 looks decent, but even so, it's more puppetry for the children so they don't realise rex is dead!!!

I tried to like them all... but... I guess the style of it never really I appealed to me THAT much.

That said it was FFVII that hooked me and made me purchase my Playstation, so I suppose I enjoyed that one thoroughly. Maybe if I had grown up with Nintendo I would feel differently, but alas the nurture aspect making me look up to final fantasy as the rpg who raised me is not present in my being.

It died for me when people were constantly bad-mouthing it and starting threads about how it's the bane of society. Yeesh.

Seirously though, it's had its moments when I thought it was done for(mostly final fantasy 12 and 10-2) But the games from the series that I did enjoy were top-notch. I'm not sure what Square has done to inspire such hatred in so many people for Final Fantasy but I really like the series.

I'll still buy 13...But i must say 12 was god awful i tried so hard to enjoy that game and i just simply didn't give a damn. 12 and 8 are the only ones that i've never gotten through.

When they decided to simultaneously rip-off World of Warcraft and Star Wars, while at the same time removing everything that made either of them any good.

I think you mean when all of those started ripping off D&D...

not trying to be mean or anything but they kinda killed everything that final fantasy was. on it's own some of the games are bearable but when compared to other FF games... well dear god they suck... not only did they do my most hated thing with not one but 2 of the ones I have played they killed the battle system. with crisis core... well when you leave leveling up to sheer chance it kills all aspect of it being an RPG and more of it being a waste of time. heck I just sat in a battle running from one enemy for 30 minutes and I leveled up 3 times. then I went through 3 different places and killed every enemy in like 5 seconds. not once did I level after over 100 battles. and they killed the materia system T.T

on it's own it can be considered mediocre at best. but in comparison to the original FF7 it's just... well it sucks.

now onto 10 where for me the series died. ok I loved the graphics and the battle system was bearable if not a bit confusing cause no longer did they have the active time system. the story was highly confusing and what totally killed it was when I went from fighting bosses with barely 2000 hp to fighting ones with 40K+ and my best char had only 1400 hp cause there was no open world to lvl up in. it was so linear it made me cry. (also another horribly wrong thing with crisis core.) FF made a name for itself being an open world you could freely explore along with it's linear parts. also the storyline took a horrible turn at the point they decided that Tidus was a memory or dream or wtf ever he was. I gave up trying to figure out the story about the time you faced the metal version of maester seymor (dun care about the spelling so don't bother :p ) it seems they turned their backs on that concept along with many many others that defined the series.

*gasps for air*

ok rant over =3

I loved IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X. Then they made X-2 and I made it about 2 hours before I put the controller down and never thought about it again. Completely ignored XI and wasn't drawn in by XII, mainly because I'm not a fan of real time combat in JRPGs, I think the turn-based system works as it removes the fights from the story, meaning you can concentrate on the story and have some fun with the battles without thinking about them too much. It seems turn based combat is back for XIII so I have high hopes for it, hopefully it can rekindle my faith in Square, especially since it seems all their best guys went to Mistwalker.

Seriously? How can you even begin to explain yourself since FF was released 17 years before WoW. And I'm a bit confused on the star wars reference as well...

It died with FF7 and the futuristic settings. Should have just called it something else at that point.

It peaked at VI. But really, Chronotrigger was the series that should have continued.

For Me it died when enix appeared. Square in general has released nothing but tired and true mediocre games... consistently i might add.

7:"My First RPG" goes doe=wn in history. nuff' said.
8:Fun until the polt went Bat-S*&t crazy and i was lost. I made it to the 4th disc and had no clue what was going on and what had happend.
9:Loved it. the most "original Final Fantasy" at the time
10:Meh
11:Didn't play it
12:It gave me hope that old SQUARESOFT was back in action but was more like a Tactics spin-off that one with a number.
Tactics:On par with 7... until Disgaea came out...
6:Also very woonderful. Play it mfor Kefka's Laugh. NOW!!!

I didn't like 9 so I'll say that's when I saw it dying for me. I'd have said X-2 but I refuse to acknowledge that as a Final Fantasy. Or even a videogame.

If you want to know where he got the star wars idea....play FF2, that game reeks of "A new hope", still a wonderful game but DAMN it's almost uncanny.
