Spoony then Vincent and Cloud.

Never really played any, those are just the two that get gushed over most.

Honestly? I think about all the things I despise about JRPGs, the stupid stories and character designs, the slow gameplay, and its pretentiousness. Oh, GOD, the pretentiousness.

Of course, many will disagree, but that's just PERSONALLY what comes to MY mind.

You are my hero. :D

OT: Cloud and Sephiroth. Because VII is freaking epic. My personal favorite... well, tied with VI. But I haven't finished it yet (working on it), so yeah.
My god you are my hero, I thought I was the only one who knew about him!

OT: Whenever I hear Final Fantasy two words come to mind, Buster Sword.

First owned FF game, only FF game to have left much of an impression. I've always liked Zidane. I have his Dissidia reimagining on my desk, right by Deoxys and a giant Frank the Bunny.

Honestly though, Tidus as a protagonist really wasn't all that cool. He was actually just really whiny.
I never understand this statement.
This kid, who I would say is about 16, gets ripped away from his family, friends and carrer, taken to a land were he doesn't know anybody, finds out everything he knew was destroyed 1,000 years ago, gets his hopes up about going home, falls in love, realizes he can't go home, finds out the only reason he exists is to stop the destruction of this new (in the sense of new to him) world, gets told he is nothing but a dream and once sin is destroyed aka he kills his dad he will no longer exist and he can never be with the girl he loves.

After all of that at no point does he even cry or even really complain about it. He says a few times that the love of his life can't die, which really isn't that bad.

I would like to see some people cope better that Tidus. He might not be the manliest looking guy but he's far from whiner.

On topic. I don't really think of any one person, I think of the game. If somebody says "say the first person that comes to mind you thin of final fantasy", I would say Tidus.

FFX is the only one I have completed the story to and you spend most of the game staring at him slowly running around. Auron would be next, 'cos I wondered for ages why he has one arm not in it's sleeve. Apparently 'cos he's based on a group of warriors who do the same.
I understand that statement fully. Tidus was really, really whiny. And so are all the protagonists after him, which is why i've been turned off of them. To be honest though, I haven't played 13, but doubt that its reversed directions.
You didn't understand me fully 'cos I was saying he isn't whiny in the slightest.

He went through all that and basically had a "aww shucks" attitude about it, I defy anybody go through that and not upset atleast once. He just got on with everything that was thrown at him, if anything he kind of lacked any emotion other than love.

I think one person, probably a person with high post count on some random forum, said he was whiny and everybody just accepted he was without thinking about it, how many teenage kids could cope with being told they can never go home again without shedding a tear?

Cloud/Sephiroth. Anyone who says anything else is probably about 12 years old.
...how? Aren't there far more memorable characters that pre-date FFVII? Hell, the Black Mage is something I associate strongly with Final Fantasy. Not to mention it's the 12-year-olds that fell in love with Cloud/Sephiroth.
