So fellow escapists what do you think about science, scientists and why do some many people dislike "science" overall?
The only reason the scientists of those days agreed with the church was they would be slaughtered if they said otherwise. An example of the church forcing scientists to agree is the much mentioned Galileo Galilei, he was threatened and also eventually killed for his attempt to spread his discovery that Tellus is orbiting the Sun.JPAD89 said:yes the church did say this....as did the scientists of the day. as it happens my exam tomorrow (which im increasingly becomming frustrated with the studying for) involves the scientific revolution of us changing from a geocentric theory of the universe to a heliocentric theory.TheEndlessGrey said:Actually, years ago, it was the church who said the world was flat. It also said the earth was the center of the universe.Kapol said:Science is good as it helps us know more about the world around us and how and why everything works. People don't like science for various reasons, but some don't trust it as it's always changing. Years ago, science said the world was flat. Yes, that was a long LONG time ago, but it still helps to show the point.
I was more being contrary than anything else, like u, I doubt those chances are particularly high. I wouldn't have thought that our natural curiosity is directly destroying out world tough, not that u are implying as such, it is indirectly responsible maybe, but I think it's the ignorance and abuse of science and it's discoveries that are to blame in that respect. The Maddest March Hare said:The Boson, I believe, is related to mass in the Universe and how it was originally formed (although that is incredibly simplified because Particle Physics isn't exactly my strong point. I'm sure DFish can elaborate/correct me if needs be), so it could be related to a cancer cure, I don't see the chances of that being particularly high.
And yes, humanity is always naturally curious, and as such our world is slowly being destroyed. I realise the irony of using technology to say this.
Because they are biased and they lie, well, at least some of them. How do I know? Well when some say they proved there is global warming and others proved there isn't global warming, you know someone is lying.KnowYourOnion said:openly admit to not trusting scientists in general.
