Why are you not a member of the Publishers Club?

Why would I want to be? I don't mind about the adverts, since I get them on almost every site I visit now anyway, I think HD is a fad, and since I don't even have an HD laptop it makes no sense, and I don't particularly want another forum in which to discuss things. I have quite enough pointless chit-chat on the regular forums to contend with.

None of other benefits that I'm aware of seem worth anything either, why would I want larger avatar images when they just slow down my computer? Why would I want extra badges when I'm not an achievement whore? Why would I want to be able to change my title?

So in short, the Publisher's Club has absolutely nothing to entice me with. I view it in the same category I place 3D and Blu-Ray in. A pointless fad that I'm rather angry people are wasting money on.

Ehem. Lets see... Instead of reasons to join the publisher club. Maybe reasons to donate a small ammount of cash to improve The Escapist? Like a donation for the free content that they have supplied you with.

I believe the Publisherclub is nothing more than a small badge given to those who donate. If you pay 10-20$. You might, just might. Notice that its actually a donation to the escapist not a payment for HD Video's or the skipping of ads. Those are just bonuses that the escapist staff is making/finding for those who were gratefull enough to the site as to donate.

There is nothing on the list that can compare to a crate (or two) of lager.

Plus I wouldn't use anything on it anyway, don't watch enough videos to justify paying for them in HD/more.

It costs money, I don't care about the HD or the custom title feature and the Ads don't bother me.

Benefit to cost ratio is too far on the cost side.
If it was 25% cheaper I still probably wouldn't go for it.
If it was 50% cheaper I'd think about it.
If it was 75% cheaper I'd get it.

I have better things to spend my money on, while I guess it might be a nifty little thing to have I would have little to no use of.

High Quality video streams - Nice, but not worth 20 bucks.
Video podcasts and full - content RSS feeds - Don't like podcasts, because they annoy me, ass does RSS, don't ask why... just see no need for either.
Exclusive member content - Care cup is running on low.
A custom title of your choice - Woo... I bet most people got the club thing for that.
Early access to upcoming site features - I get to see em eventually.
Ad-free viewing of the website - If I wanted no ad's I'd put add the escapist to AddBlock, but I'm not mean and I'd never do that because I love this site.
Free Shipping and Overclocking from Origin PC! - I build my own PC's and save loads.
Shipping Discounts from SciFiGenre.com! - I'm a long time patron of my local comic book and table top rpg proprietor.
Publisher's Club Discount at Edges of Reality! - I order my swords from this local guy I know who has a booth at anime expo.
New York Comic Con Discount! - Other side of the country, and I'd still be down the 20 bucks.
Automatic contest entries - Auto fill makes that almost useless.
Exclusive member forum access - Oh boy, a community the majority can't participate in.
Audience panel membership - Might like to do that once...

So out of 13 features... so each feature is a buck fifty.
I'd use 1 manually which would be the videos, and one would be automatic, the contest entries.
Making that 10 bucks for HQ vids, and 10 bucks for not having to fill in forms.

I'm sorry if this post came off all snarky, it wasn't intended too.
I love the escapist, and I love supporting it and lurking in the forums... but this is just not my cup of tea.
If it was cheaper, I'd probably go for it, and if they had paypall when it was cheap at the beginning I'd have gotten it... but that's history.

TLDR: Not enough worthwhile features for the cost, still love this site, blah blah <3 the escapist.

Lack of money combined with figuring out how to actually pay for it produces procrastination. I will eventually but it'll be awhile methinks. The biggest attractions for me are the HD video, the personal title and the bigger avatar. I just have to figure out if it is worth it...

The silly thing is that I actually didn't notice my avatar was bigger than other people for that reason. I just thought some people had smaller avatars because of the pic they used.

Though I wish they would up the memory size for avatars. 200kb isn't a lot to work with for gifs. The one I have now was actually 4 seconds longer, but it was 150kb too big, so I had to cut it down.

I'll tell you that the HD is a worthwhile reason. I see so many people here scoffing at it, little do they realize how much better it is. I even say this to people that are saying they just watch ZP, even ZP looks a whole lot better.

The title is awesome, I love being a Time Lord.

Oh and definitely one of the best things is no ads. At my university, the more a page has to load stuff, the more it racks up on the how much bandwidth I am using list that they have. The more internet I use the slower it gets. So not having to load ads is a great relief. My university's crap bandwidth rules are so bad, that it took me a week to download a game off of Steam. In a sense, it was like buying a game off of Amazon and waiting for it to be delivered.

The Pub Club is worth it, some people that have the money but are dismissing some of the features like HD and no ads, don't realize how much awesome those features bring to The Escapist experience.
