(What I'm about to say has probably already been said, but I'm going to say it anyway, since I don't have time to read over every post in this thread)

You could claim that PC users are elitists. You would be wrong, but you could still claim it.

A PC, or a gaming quality one at least, is going to cost you at bare minimum twice what a console costs. That, in itself, should come with some bonuses. That isn't where the problem comes in though.

PCs are, from a hardware standpoint, miles ahead of consoles. There is no debating that the hardware in a good gaming PC could tear a 360 or PS3 to shreds. As a result, PC users expect a higher quality product on the software end to get the most out of their initial hardware investment. (Console comparison- If you got a new 360/PS3 game with graphics comparable to Super Mario 64, you wouldn't exactly be impressed, would you? Same concept.) That is probably where most of it comes from- A developer compresses a game to fit within the limits of the consoles. This is good for the consoles, but PC users are left with a lot of empty space. They then complain about the empty space, and console users see it as needless complaining.

Then you have the bonus features. Modding, dedicated servers, huge game sizes, etc... Console users see PC users complaining about these things and usually think "So what? We get by without those things. Stop complaining." After all, modding on a console usually results in a ban from the service, dedicated servers aren't really noticed even when they are there, and the hardware can't support huge games.

The PC, on the other hand, has had these features for years. Most games have used all of these features for a long time. Long enough for them to become a staple of PC gaming.

Imagine, if you will, the backlash that would occur if Microsoft disabled party/private chat on the Xbox 360. That is a feature that was only recently (relatively speaking) implemented, and only effects the small portion of Xbox users with Xbox Live Gold. Needless to say, a lot of people would be pissed. It is a feature that most people use, and generally improves the quality of the service. Furthermore, it is well within the hardware limitations of the console. Microsoft has no good reason to remove this feature, and the people would see that.

Now imagine that Party chat had been around for 10+ years. It would be at the point where it was ingrained into the whole concept of the Xbox. Taking it away would be catastrophic, and a massive portion of Xbox users would be pissed off beyond belief if it was ended. That is what PC users feel when vital features are removed.

Not only do the PC users blame the developers, they blame the consoles. They see their features being taken away in order to make the game more "console-friendly". They see all the staples of their gaming community being taken away because of the hardware limitations of the consoles. The see this happening, and don't like it. Does that make them elitists? I wouldn't say so.

The Console Kiddies hate PC Gamers because we can afford nicer toys then them therefore the Console-Kiddie Nerds decided they could call us Elitist for having enough money for something that dosent break every other tuesday Like the Xbox 360(its actually a great console but it cant survive somone playing games on it for long,...Mine made it a week and i had to do the Overheating trick every other day)

Well most of the PC Gamers I know are very elitist, and "up their own asses" as one might say. I've never met one who isn't...
now are you saying they are "up their own asses" just because they dislike consoles and may jokingly bash them from time to time or are they genuinely being assholes about it?
I'm not saying they all are, but the ones I know literally say, in a serious sense, that the PC has no flaws, out-does every single console and is perfect in every way, and some even get violent if you prove them wrong.
Other PC games might not be like that, I don't know, because all the PC gamers I know are one-sided twats who threaten to hit you if you say such and such is better.

pc gamers are disliked because they have a bad rep for being super geeks, hackers, people who are good at pc controls that it allows them to do things that ruin the game, way to greedy (quote all free stuff they get and then moan)i have recently myself tried to get into pc gaming and allot of these things iv noticed myself

As a PC gamer I view Xbox live as a place for a bunch of 11 year olds but I know in reality that is not true. A bunch of my friends are console gamers and they are nothing like the stereotype.
So basically you're a PC elitist who just used apologist reasoning to say you aren't elitist...

Are you also not racist because you have black friends or not sexist because you have female friends? Look dude, I personally don't view PC gamers as elitist. I view them as people who have a capacity to get a better computer than I do and thus get a better system to game on. Hey that's great. I'd like a better system but I also like the ease of a console so inevitably, I'm a consoletard.

So as long as the consoletard title sticks and PC gamers look down at those with consoles, the hate will stay. Now here is a question.

Did you actually intend to answer your own question with irony?

I don't if it's been mentioned (too busy watching Desert Bus to read the whole thread), but some PC gamers are hostile toward consoles because of a perceived dumbing down of games to appeal to a wider audience. The most visible examples of this I can think of off the top of my head (and one of them is an older one) are Deus Ex: Invisible War and Bioshock. DX:IW had a much simpler inventory system compared to Deus Ex, and was viewed in an unfavorable light by the PC crowd. Bioshock was a good game, but was MUCH simpler than the System Shock games that were its spiritual predecessors.

Elitism mainly. To give an example, /v/ and its 'Glorious PC Master Race' crap.

Also, there's the big deal with piracy, and the compounded annoyance of people who call Console gamers 'casual morons' that are 'ruining the industry', before turning to their computers and going 'OH &"%@! CONTRA 4 JUST GOT DUMPED! CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THIS %"@^, PIRATAN!'
Right. Because console games never get pirated (2 of my friends do it all the time and a third is considering it. They have tried to convince me to do it too).

Powers and weapons are unbalanced and or under unitized, items are everywhere making the game hella easy, lack of a proper death mechanic, lack of depth and general under utilization of the stuff that's in the game. Its a lose sand box shooter trying to be an adventure game, its not a bad game and the few bugs it has(FPS locks,mouse/aim issues, shuttering, ect) are not that bad. And yes I will repeat that its not a bad game but tis a lulz fest that's taint amount to other modern day corridor shooters(D3,Q4,Cod piece,Turok, ect, ect) And ya I didn't care much for Cryisis even if PC optimized the pacing and story sucked....

I need to fire up Bioshock again and try and play it without the geek rage I had the frist time I played it.

FO3 is nightmare as far as bugs go but that aside and IMO its even more unfinished than bioshock not enough equipment to last the full 30+ hours of game play VATS is a joke of a joke and bad one at that(if you don;t know range to/hit and a bunch of other things screwed up X1000000) and the skill/level system is very badly polished, like most modern FPS-anything it feels rushed so they can start making money on DLC.....

I can't say I hate/loath modern games as much as I hate/loath modern design levels are either corridors or small rooms or a generic sand box with not much thought put into it other than the wow pretty, weapons tend to be based to much in realism and being one shot weapons or poorly balanced and there tends to not be enough of them in a game. Equipment also tends to be limited in variety, scope and ability(FF12 has crap equipment and if that was not bad enough you can't stack accessions and have some fun with it, then again Jrpgs these days are geared for grinding and crap...). Game play and AI is also simplified so they can slap stuff together and be done with it....

I just want more effort put into game design...but I see more rushing and wanking than polishing and support.... leaving me with fewer and fewer games to enjoy..... things would not be so bad if I had more control options even full button mapping for a pad makes the world of difference to me in playing and enjoying a game thats why I lean to the PC but as a gamer I must have them all(consoles) because that is unfortunately(I'd rather buy for PC at twice the price) where the games are >>

I play on both the PC and consoles, I'm breaking down barriers dammit! Does this mean I get to be an ambassador?
no. no it doesnt. Well, in all likelihood, someone will say "OH MAH G0D! YOU PLAY BOTH?!?!! NOOB!" or something to that effect, or saying that you need to pick one and dedicate more time to it. which i'm sure you do.
It makes you a hybrid, not an ambassador.

I have a similar issue; I have windows installed on my Macbook Pro (and i use it for games etc.) but instead of it "being the best of both worlds" and putting me in with PC 'clanboys' and Mac douches, I am instead cast out by both sides... for even trying to distill the purity of each mal-aligned position.
Then let me be the first to say, "I love you, duder". Such hybrid gaming is always the best way. For example, I usually play RTSes on my laptop, so when I'm after Rise of Nations I'll use the Mac bit, but then I can swap over for AoE II and Rise of Legends. It really is the best of both worlds, and anyone who refuses to switch just because they feel it'd be selling out is a twit.

I also use a Wii, and anyone who doesn't like that can kiss my shiny metal ass. Wii gamers have a hell of a lot of stick from everybody, console and PC gamers alike, saying that we're basically retarded housewives with no idea what gaming is. I LIKE my Wii, and I like the games I have (mostly Guitar Hero (3, WT, SH, M, A, 5), Tales of Symphonia (1&2) and Fire Emblem (1&2 9&10), with some other stuff too, like Battalion Wars. Goddamn, is that game fun).

Eh because they are very much stuck in their ways, its not a very open community(at least the gaming part) the tech part is pretty laidback usually.
Not a very open community? Have you ever used Steam?
As far as welcoming to newcomers, most other hobbies i've become involved with, guns cars and bikes, are much more accessible. But this only applies to gaming(perhaps cause of the youth), the tech side is pretty open though.

because PC gamers hate console gamers, its just a big circle of hate. But we don't hate ALL console gamers just the ones that say that PC's make games not look good which is completely retarded.(Yes I have had this said to me by a Halo fan boy)

Hypocrisy. People here call out other communities for their console wars yet they do the exact same thing here towards the PC.

Im so tired of these threads. They always lead to flame wars which is something the escapist is against. I have a PS3 and I fucking love it for its free simple online and great exclusives and I'm trying to save money to get a PC that I can play most FPSes on because bioshock 2 and Bad Compnay 2 on my PS3 (drool)

Anyway I recognize the attributes of each, consoles being simple and pick up and play non-frustrating fun while PC being more about performance and customization. Their both great and it falls on your personal preference.

I'll chalk it to the Wizard's First Rule...
Which for those who dont know:

"People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People?s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."

And so I say...

THIS^^
Hehehe, good quote... I figured those who would know needed no more than I already said, anyone else can fuck off :D

It is just that some pc gamers act like all consoles games are garbage."mario, metal gear solid, gears of war all suck because they are console games. All hail pc games!" I hear that and i say games are entertainment, having fun,and not about tech specs. I personally like games from all formats such as dragon age, infamous, house of the dead overkill, and lost odyessy.
