Why do PC gamers get so much hate

It's because we're born to pwn baby [/satire]

OT: official reason: because our hardware and games are so much more powerful that they are in denial,

True reason: We think (know) that our hardware is better, especially our mice and keyboards, everybody thinks that we are hardware snobs (which most of us are) because we think (know) that our peripheri are better than the controller, except for the NES and Light guns.

also, not trying to troll (for once) and if it is interpreted that way then I apologise profusely.

Because everyone needs to shut up about it. Console gamers and PC games and Wii users (they aren't gamers and the Wii isn't a console) are acting like retarded kids in a sandbox.
Slow claps.

Well, generally maintaining a PC to play modern games can be expensive, which is why a pc gamer can come off as an elitist.
A typical $1500au rig (or, if you're from elsewhere ~$700AU, hooray for the "fuck you" tax) will outlast 2 generations of consoles (my fathers current rig has been around since before the release of xbox 1 and it's still playing everything, albiet on moderate settings). Compared to a $900 (on release) PS3 and a $500 (on release) ps2, it's not particularly expensive at ~$100 more. No doubt it will still be running through the next generation as well with a few minor updates. I'd love bring up xbox costs but they are rather hard to estimate since you get half a console and have to buy the rest in rather expensive increments. Assuming an xbox 360+wireless+hdmi+xbox live costs I've no doubt it would be the most expensive single generation console to run, and yes, if you stuck to nintendo consoles it would be cheaper, but how many of you actually have done that? It is never as simple as saying "consoles are awlays cheaper than PCs" or vice versa, and if you do I garuntee you have no fucking clue.

i have a xbox 360, a game, a controller, oh and the xbox box... which is fun as a castle... but thats all i need, the box you put the disc in, the disc, and the white thing you use to control it.

a pc gamer on the other hand needs a computer, a mouse, RAM, graphics, a game, minimum space on the hard drive, minimum specohforfucksakeimborednow...

plus irregardless of what people say (anyone who argues with this statement, you're lying) pc gaming is a fuck of alot more expensive than console gaming.

both of those make any pc gamers i know snooty and stuck up when it comes to talking about their gaming experiences.
See above.

The cold, mechanical keyboard is no match for the soft, loving embrace of a controller. Just grabbing those two potruding, curved handles, pressing it close to my abdomen, and giddily losing all control button-mashing my way to victory until I'm laying there, exhausted but proud of my handiwork, reflecting on the deed that has been done...

...there is no other comparable satisfaction.

Eh because they are very much stuck in their ways, its not a very open community(at least the gaming part) the tech part is pretty laidback usually.
Not a very open community? Have you ever used Steam?

because of console fanboyism. they attack the PC because they either

A. envy the PC. (modding, etc)
B. think their way is the best way. ( IE good old tribal hostility to other tribes who dont think like them.)
C.trolls (they anger ppl for fun)
D. misinformed about the PC gamers and believe what those idiots at x-play/etc tell them to believe.
E. mistake the PC for a console with shiny bells and whistles. (its NOT a console, its a computer. PCs and consoles are not the same. they CANNOT RUN ON THE SAME SYSTEM of multiplayer, control, etc. stop expecting the PC to conform to your ways thinking it will be a good transition because it wont and it will end badly.)

I have no idea if your joking or not, but this is the reason people hate on the PC people, they are arrogant and think they are a god send.

I don't understand why all the hate is about, a gaming console is a gaming console, it's all about what people can afford, what they prefer and what is easy for them which is where the general stereotypes come from.

The fact that we don't pay to play games online. The fact that console games as a whole have a different feel than PC games.

Maybe because being a PC gamer requires more knowledge about your system than a console.

Eh, there was a schism between PC Gamers and console gamers? I was too busy actually playing the goddamn games to notice.

Seriously people, it boggles my mind that I have to point this out...but, uh, isn't it more fun to just sit down in your chair or sofa, pick up your keyboard or controller, and just play the fucking game than debate about whose got a bigger techcock?

Now, if you don't mind me, I'm going to play Homeworld again.

Yeah. I know a couple of people who did that as well. It doesn't work so well the other way. I have been trying to get into consoles just for the hell of it for a while but I think it's too late for me :(. I'm much happier when I feel like I'm in complete control.

I get angry at the whatever console I'm using at the time for assuming I want to play the game I just inserted. "I didn't say you could start yet". Maybe this isn't true for the later generation consoles though. :p

I'll chalk it to the Wizard's First Rule...
Which for those who dont know:

"People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People?s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."

And so I say...

for me, i just want to play a game.

I want to go buy a disk, bring it home put it in my xbox and start playing. I don't want to have to update anything, i don't want to have to check stats on anything. i just want to play the game. Xbox live patches and updates don't bother me because the system does all the work.

where as with a PC there are any number of things that can slow down this process. This seems very foolish to me and i am inclined to disrespect people who will put up with this, when there are perfectly good consoles out there which will solve all of those problems. And IMHO offer a better game playing experience.

Then there are the hackers and moders and pirates and all the other people that just make PC gamers sound like a pack of pricks with the famous sense of entitlement.

I don't really care that much if someone's a PC gamer or a Console gamer; hell, most of my friends have got Xboxs/PS3s or Wii's. (This is from my, a PC's, view)

The only reason I would have to resent Console gamers would be that (in my experiance) often get good games on thier system released before PC's, therefore ruining the story for me due to thier blabbing. Example in point; Batman: Arkham Asylum. PS3's and Xbox's got it 3 weeks before PC, for porting reasons (clarification needed), and i'm not even mentioning the Joker map packs that the PS3 had, man those looked good.
Another example; Assassin's Creed II, released for Xbox and PS3 November 20th, whilst the PC version is coming 4 months later. Gee, thanks.

But apart from that, I have no problem at all with the actual people playing on the consoles.

Who cares? Play whatever you want to play. I have a PS3 and a good computer that can run every game to date decently, my brother also has a 360, so i have access to every platform. I started as a long time console player, till CS then WoW came out, PC is truly superior for mostly all genre's. I'm unfortunately forced to go with the PS3 more often then not because the ports for PC are slow to be released. But when i can, PC all the way. I refuse to even buy RTS, FPS or RPG's(Dragon Age for instance).

But again, who gives a crap? There's no feud here or anything.

Because stereotypically we're seen as Elitist, and vice versa Consolers are seen as simpletons. As I belong to both groups I must be the pinnacle of gaming kind. Go me!

I dunno, the elitism is awful. I play both and massively prefer console games simple because it's less hassle. While I don't have a problem setting up a pc and learning how to use everything, it's an unappealing prospect and for all mates to have to do it as well to get the most out of this generation of gaming

My second point of it being less hassle is the keyboard and mouse are quite chunky, I've always found the keyboard and mouse to feel a bit disjointed but everyone's to their own opinion about the controllers. The accuracy on a first person shooter is really really petty but RTS's just don't work on a console, unless some game coming out in the future can prove me wrong.

My third point is while it may not be that expensive to upgrade it and it might not be that difficult but the fact is people don't want to have to make the effort. I don't want to have to make the effort and it's a nice reassuring feeling knowing that your console will play it without you having to download some software or buy and install a better part

Finally why should I buy a pc? There really is very little in terms of pc exclusives coming out that appeal to a lot of people. Mainly because any pc games that do appeal to a lot of people get torrented.

So to summarise my post, the elitism, the greed and pig headedness of pc gamers is the reason for th hate. Obviously there are exceptions and if you are one kudos to you but this is from personal experience from the community and pc gamers in generally.
