The reason I loathe them is the acting was terrible, many facts and events from the first trilogy are simply over-written or disregarded, and midichlorians.

With all of the high paid actors not one of them did a decent job of acting out of the paper bag that was the script.

According to RotJ, Leia remembers her mother vaguely. How is this possible when she did shortly after giving birth to her.

Anakin Skywalker was a miracle of the force, a Jesus baby and midichlorians are what gives a jedi his powers? Sorry, I don't buy any of that. It takes the mystery out of what made Star Wars so great.

Well, not the first one, and the second one was bad.

But I generally like Revenge of the Sith....and I liked Anakin....

Hey, thanks for reminding me. That was another part I liked about Episode II. Damned if I know what those things were or how they were supposed to work, but the noise they made was so awesome in theaters.

To be honestly, that one scene in Episode 2 is part of the reason my dream is to work at ILM in CGI or sound design.

(Pretty sure 6 scarred me for life though =P You know the scene i'm talking about).
You mean... where that ewok dies and his friend starts crying over him...?

That scene is more emotionally engaging than the three prequels put together.

I find that the first movie tolerable if you just pretend that Jar Jar isn't there. :)

The second one was the worst. Just bad, bad, bad writing. The love story was completely barf.

I was okay with the third. Let's face it, Star Wars IV, V, and VI, were pretty bad too by general movie standards, and I felt that III was pretty much on par with those.

First of all, dont presume to make peoples opinions for them, I dont hate the prequels.

Honestly tell me what makes them so spectacular?
Not presumption just humorous statement.
Of course everybody's entitled to their own opinion just mine is the right one :p

The fact that they had better plot, better characters, and better emotional engagement with the audience, was why they were spectacular.

I was thinking more about the force lightning torture scene, but that one works to. =D

The most comprehensive list of Star Wars 1 and 2 FAILS anywhere(also perhaps the funniest). Bastards are holding out on number 3.

Oh. Well you now know which scene I was crying at when I first saw it.

The lightning torture scene is actually kinda disturbing now that I think about it.

They're horrible because they have glaring inconsistencies, are literally marketing for toys that he sells and they've killed any semblance of a story. He even realizes they're bad and he keeps putting it out.

I guess this is also the fans fault for some die hard fanboys can't see flaws. Slap Star Wars or Nintendo on some things and it could be designed to be bad but the fanboy will like it anyway because it was made by said company.

You should have seen him in Star Wars: Clone Wars (no not the crap CGI version but the one done by Genndy Tartakovsky of Samurai Jack fame).

His first scene firmly placed him on the top of my list of bad-ass villains.

They could've done so much more with the whole premise of the clone wars, and the whole "empire taking over" situation, but it just turned out to be... unnecessarily comical I guess.
And the empire is formed because

"OH NO I GOT ATTACKED BY JEDI, LETS BECOME A DICTATORSHIP. FOR SAFETY OF COURSE"

Seriously. What the hell is with that?
Honestly, that was one of the biggest things that the prequel trilogy even had going for it. Remember that the power to do such a thing had been given to him in the second movie, so it was completely plausible that such a thing could happen. It's also a parallel to societies in the world. Such a thing has happened before many a time, and can just as easily happen again in our modern age. The prequels were filled with a lot of childish trash, but this was one scene in particular that was actually really good and quite relevant.

Now on to the rest of the topic at hand... yeah, the prequel trilogy is pretty bad. The Phantom Menace is a soulless piece of delicious eye candy wrapped in a premise that tried to be political, but then made the politics of the issue have no bearing on the plot. It also essentially had ZERO FUCKING STORY. Seriously, this movie was completely pointless. The recap in the elevator of the second movie pretty much told us everything we needed to know about Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship, and with that, we could have had another movie to develop those two as characters, the political overthrow of a democratic government, and Anakin and Padme's descent into darkness. This movie talked a lot, but didn't say a word.

Episode 2 was better than Phantom, but still had a lot of issues. The reason I hate this one so much though is because of the incredible missed opportunities here. There was some real mystery going on, only they shrouded it in special effects, throwaway one-liners, and a horrifying romantic sub-plot. Fortunately though, some of the action actually serves the plot, and that instantly makes this a better movie than the first.

Episode 3... wow. The essential need to make the second movie come first really shows with how rushed this movie feels. Somehow they ran out of time in turning Anakin into a monster and turning the entire world against the Jedi. I can understand flipping a switch and instituting military order because of an assassination attempt, but flipping a switch and turning a powerful Jedi with a mediocre track record as far as maturity goes into a child slaying abomination is way too extreme. Had more care been given to it all, this could have been much better. The fights are all great, but it's hard to care because of the lack of development. Why do I care about the glorious battle in space? Why do I care about the need to assassinate Grevious? And worst of all, why do I care that the spontaneous child killer is fighting his master? There was no development leading up to any of this! It's too damned sudden!

Now this isn't to say that the original trilogy is perfect, it's far from that. However it is very effective in its effects, they all serve the story, and the story isn't convoluted from one title to the next. We know a lot happened between Episode 5 and Episode 6, but it doesn't suddenly detach us from the story like it does between 2 and 3.

When I was younger I really liked the prequels, but as I get older I feel more like Yahtzee after Tim Schafer ate one of his lion cubs.

YES!! I saw all 40 chapters of that!! General Grievous was something to be Feared!! Not only that but even in Cartoon Network it was shown that he killed Numerous Jedis!

Why couldn't he be that beastly in the movie!?

The acting, mostly, for me. Holy crap. After seeing the first, my first thought was "Surely they couldn't have a worse actor than that kid for Anakin in the second (my second and third thoughts being, respectively, "Doesn't seem like as many people are clapping now as were doing so at the beginning" and "I think they're clapping because they think they're supposed to"). Boy, was I wrong. Best ending for those films would have been for Jar Jar and Anakin to grab each other in a loving embrace and then jump into the lava. Then, as Kevin Smith might say, Credits.

I kinda liked the third, but the overall problem was in the dialogue. Here's the thing about Lucas, he can tell a good overall story, but he can't write lines, something he has admitted to multiple times, but for some reason he keeps trying :( I mean, the dialogue for the original trilogy wasn't all that great in retrospect, but he got a free pass on that for a)inventing Star Wars, and b)Harrison Ford's occasional (brilliant) ad-lib. But he's been doing this crap for like 3 decades! At some point, he needs to say to himself "I need help with this." One point I'd like to mention though, I thought that the character of Anakin Skywalker was a believable characerization. Yes, he was a whiny little *****, but that's usually who turns into the great villians: emo kids with issues. Look at Hitler, he was a failed art student from Vienna, practically the definition of whiny emo kid with issues...

Why do I hate the Star Wars prequels?

I don't.

The first one I'll admit probably was the worst. Two was alright. Three was actually pretty awesome in my opinion.

One reason is because it inspired this: http://www.nooooooooooooooo.com/

In all seriousness though, the original movies were superior. No doubt about that.

Jar Jar Fucking Binks was a rather large factor in my distaste(I won't say I "hated" them) for the movies. And the fact that he never died.
Another bit is the whole "...I hate sand. It's so...sandy. And you...you're not sandy. And that is why I love you[footnote]Yeah, I know it's from stickwars, but dammmit, that's about how it sounded[/footnote]
The whole whiny ***** teenage rebellion version of Darth Vader was quite irritating too.
You know those three reasons are exactly what I was going to post. You are really at anticipating my posts sometimes Neonbob :p

But yeah, the biggest reason out of the three Neonbob already said was the sand scene.
