Why does everyone hate the PS3?

I find the PS3 is to expensive for relying so much on HD and has a lack of unique games that I actually want to get. So the HD,I much as I would love an HD TV I simply just can't afford one these days thanks to a certain color and his banking friends, and the sheer cost of a PS3 to see it how it should be just isn't worth it. It has gone back to what the PS2 did, getting a bulk of mainstream games and having very few worthwhile titles to itself, I mean the only 2 "brand" titles I enjoyed were Ratchet & Clank (Love that series), and Metal Gear but the majority of the other titles are games I could get on the 360 or Wii, usually both.

So to summarize, it relies too much on HD, too expensive because of that, and a lack of worthwhile "brand" games.

I think both of the consoles are great, the only reason I got an Xbox 360 is because me and all of my friends agreed to get one so we could all play online together, not go around to each others houses and play some 4-link Battlefront!

Oh yeah, it has more DLC too, but the PS3 has Metal Gear Solid, Lair and Little Big Planet which I would love to play.

In my opinion its because the PS2 was so dang good, so revolutionary, that when the PS3 came out it really wasn't all of those things! Sure it had great graphics, Blu-Ray, and all sorts of cool features, but a console needs to have good games when it comes out; and that's why the Xbox 360 and the Wii have done so well they launch with really good titles; either right when it comes out or a year from release.

When the Xbox 360 came out it had games like CoD 3 (which in retrospect wasn't that good), Gears of War, Rainbow 6 Vegas, and other great games. Whereas the PS3 just had Resistance (which is a great game) and a few other okay titles. (I'm having trouble remember some of the launch titles so im sorry if you think of other that I cannot at the moment).

I will admit in the beginning i was a PS3 hater, mostly because of the $600 price tag, but also because of the lac of games! See the PS2 had every type of game imagniable: FPS, RTS, RPG's, Driving, Platforming (one of the best genre's ever, that no one makes any more), etc.... The PS3 doesn't have that, they are trying to appease the Hardcore gamer, (like the Xbox 360 did in the beginning but really isn't anymore), and its crippling them!

However now you see that the PS3 has a lot of good games out, they have God of War 3, Killzone 2, Infamous, Uncharted 2, and many more, which are all very diverse platform. This is what the PS3 needs, and they are finally getting right!

People don't like the PS3 because of it's cost (both of the console and to develop for it). Plus the lack of backwards compatibility killed it for a lot of people. I mean c'mon most of us own/ed a PS2 and remember it had amazing games. Fanboys are just blind followers, they feel they have to defend their console of choice.
Also Fallout 3 will not get any expansions on the PS3 because Microsoft paid for exclusive rights on the 360.

As I have just said to another poster, I was attatched to my PS2, but the PS3 made me want to hurl every Sony based product I own out of the window. If you actually take everything into consideration, the 360 is technically better.

From a technological stand point, no.
I will admit it has a majority of better games though. I actually don't see anything wrong with the PS3 other than it's being under supported (opposite of the Wii which is being over supported just not by very many good developers). Well I guess there is some bias in my reasoning since I have a backwards compatible PS3.

I didn't mean techincally actually meaning technically... I'm confusing mysellf now. Yes, the backwards compatibility was an added bonus, but now they are very hard to come by. And yes it may be technically quite good, but it could be argued its TOO good. No one can be bothered making games that use the PS3's true potential and is there any point having a really good console thats just going to gather dust, due to the lack of good, exclusive games?

Yeah it is very difficult to develop for. And I actually like the control pad, it's good for everything just not shooters. I'll admit that the 360 control is one of the best for FPS's.

Yerr, there is hardly any difference in the pad though, it kinda sucks. The PS3 has amazing potential, but there stubborness in reducing prices along with downgrading the console makes it unpopular.

I'm sorry, I just had to reply on this.. The 360 is a cheap console IF you don't buy any extra equipment to it at all. If you do, I belive the price will be about the same as the PS3..
I like my PS3 very much and is a regular user of the black monster <3

The ardade version is only £130 and hard drives are not that expensive at all. But if your just a casual gamer the memory card you receive with it will cover all your saves. And referring to it as a "black monster" is only agreeing with me that it is extremely unattractive looking. If I am going to spend so much on a console, I atleast want it to be nice looking...

Why are there console wars? Why do people take it so seriously?
I'm starting to agree with one of Yahtzee's reviews where he said the console fanboyism seems to stem from the fact that your mom is only planning to buy you one console.

I make the best of my PS3 and my 360, with about the same number of games for both.
Sure, they're basically the same thing.
Sure, Xbox Live costs money.
Sure, PS3 (arguably) has a superior controller.

I don't understand, though why someone can't just stick to their guns and enjoy a console because they have it and not give a shit about what anyone else thinks because really, what does it matter?
Unless you're trying to impress them with your big black box, but I don't think that's the idea behind owning consoles. They aren't exactly impressive to others, nor will be your skill in the games on it.

Moral of the story:
-The 360 has been out for a lot longer than the PS3.

-Xbox Live has a monthly fee though is often more reliable than PS3's online gameplay (at least in personal experience).

-The PS3 has superior graphics in it's exclusive games, sure, but a fair amount of the best games are multi-platform now.

-The PS3 is ridiculously expensive and offer up many of the same games one can get for his 360.

-PS3 plays Blu-ray movies and that's sexy.

-Both consoles are great and you should own both consoles.

-If you can only own one, be happy with the one you have and let everything negative that everyone else says not affect you. At this point they're both the same thing, save a few exclusives here and there.

I was actually quoting Yahtzee on the Black Monster thing. The truth is that the PS3 is really pretty and stylish. It has a shiny, black cover and with it's, in my eyes, nice shape, the PS3 is a good looking machine.
As a matter of fact I think that the PS3 and the Wii is the two gamestations that looks the best on the outside in this gen. The 360 is not that ugly either, but does not blend in as well as the PS3 and the Wii in, let's say, the living room.

The Wii is such a small and insipid beast that it blends in with my beige walls and the PS3 wouldn't god damn fit anywhere in my house, it's so big. And sorry, this made me laugh...

Simple; 360 fans don't want to admit they bought the wrong Console.

The 360 is a joke. Seriously. Look at everything it lacks, then go wandering round your house. You'll probably find the missing components in common household items. Let us begin;

WIRELESS CONNECTION. Most phones can connect Wirelessly to the Internet without some uber-expensive / fuck ugly attachment. The DS can do it, the PS3 can do it, the PSP can do it, the Wii can do it, any PC / Laptop worth speaking of can do it... the 360 can't.

INTERNET BROWSER. Again, people's phones have Net Browsers on them now. So does the Wii, so does the PS3, so does the PSP, and I've been told the DSi can as well. The 360? It sits there slack-jawed and asks "Doubleyou Tee Eff is teh interweb Bowzer?"

HARD DRIVE. Eighty quid should buy me the 120GB 360 HDD. Forty quid got me a 160GB PS3-compatible HDD. I've seen 250GB drives for fifty, and 500GB ones for eighty. Microsoft are a bunch of thieving bastards.

X-BOX LIVE SUBSCRIPTION. People don't engage the brain, but if they did they'd see it's a ripoff.
360 Elite costs about £200. An 80GB PS3 is about £300. Call it £350 if we upgrade the HDD.
These consoles should last AT LEAST five years before they are ditched for the 8th Gen machines. That means you want at least five years of online play.
PS3 charges you nothing for that.
360 charges you £35 a year.
After five years, your 360 has cost you £375. The PS3 is still at £350, and that includes a non-standard HDD we bought separately. If we assume "out of the box" costs, then after just three years the PS3 becomes the cheaper console.

Oh, and if you don't buy 12-month subscriptions and use 3-month or 1-month allotments instead, it'll cost you even more...


I could go on about how the controllers eat batteries like crazy, or how DVD tech will be obsolete in a few years (making the 360 obsolete), but the point is made; the people who claim "PS3 2 expenziv lol!" are looking at out of the box costs, not real costs. When you buy the PS3, the only thing you'll need to buy are games. When you buy the 360, you'll need games, subscriptions to live, batteries, extra peripherals... and you're still buying a trumped up PS2, not a true 7th Gen machine.

i have both a ps3 and a xbox 360 the reason i think some people defend the xbox because it came out first so they brought it then couldent afford ps3 or that the original xbox was better than ps2 and they just assume that their console is best i bet noone here who owns both will pefer xbox 360

Unfortunaly theres always hate about something though i never hear anyone complaining about the Wii, so that must mean that the Wii is the winner be default OH GOD I CHOSE THE WRONG CONSOLE!

It's expensive, to really enjoy the graphics you need a HDTV, the games are expensive too.

That's the worst reason to prefer it over the Xbox 360. Also, as much as I've seen from the shops from my country and shops from UK, Canada and US, I have noticed that Xbox 360 and PS3 versions have the exact same price. So I can't really understand.

I personally sold my Xbox 360 and bought a PS3 for the reason, that the Xbox 360 didn't have any exclusives I'd want to play, but the PS3 did.
