really? play GOW only with Death Metal playing in the background?
trust me when i say that Metal + games = a hell of a lot of fun, but when you're playing GOW with the sesame street theme and cradle of filth playing in the background, oh does the fun times never end

Hells yes. I must locate an mp3 of that. I wish I was a little more knowledgeable about how do extract mp3s off of youtube vids. ;_;
I'm a little busy atm but I'm sure I can find you an MP3 of it sometime soon. I know I have it on my old computer anyway.
Just a case of gettin' too it, the original song is awful.
Thank you. :) I would appriciate that.
Install "flashgot" for Firefox.. when that's installed there will be a little icon at the bottom right of yer firefox window that'll let you download more or less any FLV (flash video) file you're watching online. That done, google and download "SUPER" - a video encoder/decoder. Wehn you do that, you can open the FLV in SUPER and extract the MP3. There is probably an easier process, but hey.

Cause Rap sucks and Metal fits alot of the numerous action-filled game? Thats my reasoning as to why.
Your just an ignorant twat. Your a dumb ass for generalizing rap as all being shit. i hate most metal but i don't say "oh all metals shit". some songs are good (mainly ones without scremo).

talking is not music.
Talking??? how bout bloody screaming, its no better.
I hate screaming as singing too. And since you are just being a prick, what you say does not even matter. The other guy who was mainly arguing with me was not being so disrespectful as you, so atleast what he said was worth responding to. I only am doing so now to point out how you are just being a jerk, and apparently according to that same guy, you also are generalizing, so tsk tsk. Now unless you understand that you are a jerk, do not bother continuing this, since I have better things to do than listen to your mean words.

because most gamers are white suburbanite kids, in their late teens, and frustrated with their lives. so they listen to music that "speaks to them.
Don't stereotype an entire group. I listen to metal because I like the complexity and how awesome it sounds. And my life is fine, I'm hardly angry, so I don't need music that "speaks to me."
Stereotypes exist because they are often true. They can be changed, but just because one person does not fit, thats just one person. Most people who listen to metal are similar, most people who listen to rap are similar. Always differences, but if groups of people did not seem very the same, then these stereotypes never would have popped up in the first place.

I don't know. Maybe a lot of people who play games like it? I like metal, and I like games. It's as simple as that. I think.

There's also a lot of Rap fan gamers. And Jazz fans. And Classical.

FPS's are great to play with metal in the backround... I listen to techno and rap as well. Maybe most gamers are just angry. It isen't enough to gun people down with a 50 Cal in the streets? Not at all. they need some loud angry music in the backround. =P

what i´ve seen is that many of the types who like playing stuff like oblivion or WoW or in general medieval stuff listen to a lot of metal or gothic rock and then if you see how many medieval games there are its no surprise many gamers like metal.

Probably for the same reason that heavy metal and Dungeons & Dragons used to be joined at the hip. You know, before D&D started thinking it was hip.

yes one or two people of the scene can go off on different musical paths, however the genre as a whole hasn't evolved in a very long time
I wouldn't call things like birthing a whole new genre of music--alternative--"one or two people." Not to mention the influence hardcore punk had on metal itself. In some ways it's self-contradictory to say that punk had promise early on but never went anywhere and then hold up metal as an evolving genre.

If anything, punk was TOO successful in evolving--it's evolved so much that some of the subgenres have turned into genres themselves. Not only did punk evolve, it went so far as to engage in speciation.
most of what could be considered "splintered" from punk can easily have been said to come from other genres and in fact most of the musicians cite other bands sides punk

punk never really did evolve, it's stayed the same, sure someone might claim they are different but it doesn't mean it. they are still the same 3 chord rock that it's ever been and you can easily trace it right back to the source of where it came from

actually most of my friends are either fans of punk, metal or industrial, so i do know a bunch about it
I get the feeling your friends only listen to one type of punk.
actually they are quite diverse in their musical tastes

it still doesn't make the point about punks trying to be outsiders while trying to get very popular any less relevant, which is a rather funny oxy moron about the whole genre

the thing is with groups that try and portray themselves as outsiders is when they are welcomed as part of the scene they get upset because they want to be treated as an outsider instead of welcomed to the fold
Leaving aside whether any of this is right or not, none of this has to do with what outsider art is.
i do know what outsider art is and calling some subgenre of punk outsider art isn't right. a prime example of outsider art is Johnny Cash doing the cover of Nine Inch Nails because Johnny was a country & western musicians and NiN is an industrial band

right and how many people do you hear after a tool show going "what the hell was Maynard doing at the back of the stage? he like never faced the audience" or something along those lines

i've heard tons of people that complain about how they perform live cause Maynard isn't front and center. so yes there's lots of people that don't get them
No, that means there are a ton of people who don't get their *live performance.* That's totally different from "there's lots of people that don't get them."
that's still a big part of the band and what a prog rock band is. and then there is a lot of people who don't understand some of the other stuff they stick into their songs, like a fibonacci sequence into a song

I can refute that in one word, and I can use several words to do it:

Post-Hardcore, Screamo, Emotive HardCore, Post-Punk, Minimal Punk, Art Punk, Horror Punk, Hardcore, Crust, Oi!, Skate Punk, Garage Punk, etc. That doesn't even begin to address fusion genres.

NiN is an industrial band
No it isn't. And EBM is only considered a subgenre of Industrial do to some hilarious confusion that arose when Industrial practitioners (Mainly SPK) dropped what they were doing to make poppier music. If you listen to actual Industrial you'll realize it sounds NOTHING like EBM.

Metal is about fantasy and role fulfillment, that's why it's always about barbarians, murderers and other perceived 'bad-asses'. 8bit music on the other hand traditionally isn't lyrical, and the lyrics in 8bit music made today are more vague and impressionistic and less immersive than those of metal. 8bit is mostly defined by its technical limitations while metal is empowered by technology to take on an dimensional characteristic that is larger than life, also like today's games. It also has an adrenaline-rush aspect to it that is very similar to the dopamine release triggered by games. Can't think of anymore reasons, feel free to debate from here (although it looks like I'm entirely too fucking late showing up to this thread.)

I listen and enjoy metal, but not because it is TEH HARDCORE but because I rather enjoy the fast tempo and impressive guitar work at times, with a good beat set down by the drums. (But I still dislike the idea of a soundwall some metal artists opt to use.)

Bassists, we haven't forgot about you! Just usually you're tuned out.

Not to mention I rather enjoy groove metal, it gets me moving.

Eh, I don't believe that the malority are actually primarily metalheads, but I do believe that most metalheads are generally loud people.

Just look out on the street. You see metalheads wearing t-shirts advertising metal bands. But the people who like other genres don't advertise anywhere near as much.

cus metal is the only thing other then opera that makes a battle seem epic, and most games with battles are probably geared towards people 10-18, and most 10-18 year olds (at least the sterotype says so.) probably think opera is for old people.
